Hôtel Mercure Dijon Clemenceau - Salad with smoked salmon

Once you got to the room itself, it was fine. Overall, clean with basic amenities: no conditioner,…read morejust a squeeze bottle of body wash/shampoo - all in one, hair dryer, hand soap, tissues (located on the wall under the sink so trust me, it's there), and coffee/tea. It's just getting in and getting out that is a problem. First, the key barely works on the door. You have to give it several swipes at different speeds to get the green light to work and let you in. Otherwise, you keep getting that red light and you can't get in your room until you get it at just the right speed. Second, at check out, I have never been made to feel as if calling for a taxi was the worst thing in the world. The front desk woman, Marcella, was frustrated that I asked to call for a taxi (she wanted me to take the tram). On top of that, she kept asking me if I wanted an address on my bill...what?! I asked her to clarify and instead, she kept saying "AN ADDRESS" in an increasingly loud tone as she repeated herself over and over. I told her that I've never been asked that before and what address was she specifically referring to. But, of course, to no avail. Since I wanted her to stop repeating "AN ADDRESS" I just said "no" and got out of there as fast as I could. Can't say I would ever stay here again seeing as there are other options in Dijon.

Also had creppes, coffee, juices, boiled eggs, toast, ham, 4 different cereals to chose from. And much more. All was delicious. (And I don't normally like commercially-made boiled eggs. These must have been boiled just before they came out to us.) The bed was comfortable- soft and plush. We had our baby with us (10-mo old + walking). The crib they provided looked brand new. Was big enough to be a play-pin too. Sides were tall enough, more than adequate to keep our active baby safe. The staff were very friendly and most spoke English pretty well. They didn't seem to mind catering to English-speaking persons like us. Provided maps and explanation of area. Also, at some point we lost a baby burp cloth- one of the more expensive ones. We didn't realize we'd lost it earlier in the day, however, as soon as we returned, the folks at the front desk recognized us, and had our item at the front desk waiting. We weren't the only people with a baby, so either the other patrons they asked were honest and admitted it wasn't theirs, or the staff actually saw and remembered us with it. Either way, great service. We believe the room prices were reasonable. Especially for how close you are to Dijon center. If you're coming from America, know that the "double" beds are actually more like an American Queen size. Definitely roomy enough for hubby and I (I'm tall & wide :)). Plus, we had a nice afternoon nap with baby between us and it still didn't feel crowded. Only complaints were no hair conditioner & no wash cloths. But maybe that's not something the French use much. Would definitely stay here again if we visit this area of France again.

We asked our hotel to pick another close restaurant and they chose, Le Chevreuil. At first arrival, we felt like they may not be open. We poked our heads in a little more and noticed staff on the patio in the back. They welcomed us in and we sat outside overlooking the village of Meursault. We did not order wine. I know, we are in the heart of the French wine country, but, in our defense, we had three different wine tastings earlier that day. Don't @ me. The menus are in French. We asked for an English version and they did not have one. Lucky for us, our hostess was kind enough to walk us through damn near everything on the menu. I say lucky, because the first dish I tried to google translate came up "spider" which would have made everything wrong in the world. My wife ordered chicken dish and I had the three course with dessert. They brought mini french breads and a small cup of some soup for my wife when they brought my zucchini bowl of Art. I could have just sat and at the zucchini Art bowl all night. It was a delight. Creamy, crunchy, salty, sweet, almost every experience for the mouth in a single dish. The beef was cooked Sous vide which I think makes meat perfect. The reduction was exquisite and could be sold in a jar or by the gallon. My wife enjoyed her chicken dish although she is always hesitant to eat chicken with the bones in place. We Americans are sometimes spoiled with our food preparations. Dessert was again, a work of art as is most of the food outside of Paris. I am so happy that the fist restaurant was closed because this was our last night in Meursault and in Bourgogne.

We made 2 day trips to Beaune and Dijon from here. Our room was well appointed with an updated and spacious bathroom (with both a shower and bathtub). We stayed in July and appreciated the air conditioning unit, although it was a tad noisy. The owner, Peter, was always available and spoke English which was very helpful. We had access to the living room and kitchen, which provided everything we needed (e.g. coffee and tea, aluminum foil, plates, cups, silverware). One of my favorite memories while staying at the hotel was our evening walks. We could walk outside and admire the gorgeous vineyards (just a few steps away), walk to downtown to have dinner, or walk through the quiet neighborhood to photograph the surrounding vineyards. Les Deux also has a great patio where you can have breakfast, light snacks (salad, cheese, fresh pasta), and drinks. We arrived around 1pm and had a charcuterie plate and wine while enjoying the warm sunshine. It was picture perfect and we couldn't have asked for a more pleasant afternoon. The hotel is housed in an old winery, and they still have a working wine cellar. We did wine tasting in their cave and really enjoyed the informative presentation from Matt! It was a group of 4 with my husband, myself, and one other couple. Matt was very passionate and knowledgeable about wine but provided the information in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. If we ever have a chance to visit Burgundy again, we will be sure to stop by Les Deux Chevres!
