I had the pleasure of traveling on the Norwegian Star in June for a week long cruise that took us to Kotor, Montenegro, Corfu, Santorini, and Mykonos, Greece, and Dubrovnik, Croatia. The trip was amazing. The Star has recently been refurbished and it showed. The food and the service on the ship was excellent. The entertainment was off the charts. They had a troupe of 14 men and women who performed at least 4 distinct shows during the trip in addition to other entertainers. As a public health guy I was impressed with their efforts to ensure hygiene especially around the restaurants and buffets. Disinfectant spray was available at all times and the crew greeted everyone in front of the food locations as well as at the entrance of the ship with disinfecting spray. The phrase "washy washy" become part of our cruise lexicon fort he entire week. We sampled every restaurant that was part of our package i.e. every one but the premium options and they were all excellent. We gravitated to O'Sheehans which is the "Irish pub" in the center of the ship which was especially good. We hit lots of places during the week and only had one dedicated 36 hour cruise from Mykonos to Dubrovnik which honestly was a nice break. The downside to this trip was the limited time in port which isn't really Norwegian's fault - you just need to know this going into an experience like this one. I do have a sense of where I would like to return for a more dedicated visit. The Star had about 2500 guests which is a comfortable amount of folks. It never really felt too crowded or rushed except in the ports where we needed to tender into the location. It was a great time and a memorable experience for all. read more
