I had Northwest homes build my house. At first I was impressed but as time went on my opinion has changed drastically. I will say that some of the subs do a really nice job and were quite helpful. However, Fred and company were in no hurry to get anything done. There was a delay getting windows, so I forgive that, but at other times there would be weeks (2-3) where nobody would be out there doing anything. I was told the build would take 6-8 months. It took about 16 months. Fred didn't even know when the construction loan timed out OR when the building permit timed out. NEITHER ONE!!! I had to ask if we were going to meet either of those timelines and he had to ask me when they timed out. Why do i need to babysit this project when he is making $65k profit on it (line item). It wasn't until both the loan and permit came due that there was any urgency to get anything done. If they needed anything from me there was no lead time, everything was an emergency and had to be done right NOW, like this was their first house and they didn't know what to expect next. In fact, they had 10 months of zero rain but due to waiting they had to pour the porches 3 days after it rained. To make that happen I was charged an additional $1,250 to bring a pumper in. Fred could have cared less and I had to pay the additional because he drug his feet. He was also upset that the job was taking so long and he had to pay for the outhouse and blamed it on me, like I could schedule his workers. Admittedly, there were a couple times that I challenged his prices for items, some I could better and some I wasn't able to. I can go on and on here about the experience, and most of it not good, but one thing the REALLY bothers me is that I asked that all unused materials be left at the jobsite for my future use. I was told that they would do that but anything of value kept disappearing. This was stuff that I paid for, MY materials, and it would walk off. I kept reminding them but it made NO difference, everything just "walked away." Carpet, doors, wood, hardware, etc... the list goes on and on. No credits on any of it. Even my PERSONAL paint brushes were taken! I notified Fred but he could care less. This is nothing short of THIEFT!!! I PAID FOR THE MATERIALS AND ASKED FOR THEM TO REMAIN. Now I'm fighting charges for mistakes THEY made AND for CHARGES FOR THINGS THEY DIDN'T EVEN DO!!! (ie - "We moved a bath drain from the right to the left side." They refuse to budge on this even though you can look at the tub and see it is STILL on the right side!!! This is ludicrous! I would NEVER do business with Fred and Northwest homes again, they are not honest people. The house turned out nicely, I will give them that, but they have no issue running up your costs when they don't need to be and they refuse to acknowledge any of their shortcomings. Expect to be gaslit and ignored if you challenge them on issues they don't want to address. I am so mad about this that I will probably pursue it in court. I would look elsewhere if you are looking for contractor, which is unfortunate because the quality seems to be fairly good at this early stage, but only time will tell how that quality really is. read more
