North lake Veterinary Surgery has been so great to me and my dog Nolan. Nolan had TPLO surgery here a few years back and was like brand new after the surgery, literally within hours! We had to keep him calm for a few weeks to fully heal but he literally seemed like a younger dog. Recently Nolan had been having more pain so I took him to Northlake and Dr. Coleman took X-rays without hesitation and decided his legs still looked good. From the moment I entered the office I knew I was in the right place. They typically see dogs and my Jack is a cat. He rescued me in his first year of life and is indoor/outdoor. When he finally returned home Monday evening, 4 hours past his normal time, he was hurt. Rushed him to the emergency vet. They treated a puncture wound. My regular vet did the X-ray and found he had a tib fib fracture on the leg that had been bit. So Thursday he had surgery. Dr Greenwood who is a cat man himself did the surgery. He and his techs were amazing. We will still have to return for suture removal and a final visit 6-8 weeks out. I hated driving away that Thursday I left him. But I knew he was in very capable hands. I have nothing but amazing things to say about this amazing establishment. My pupper has recently ran into some bad knee problems. I just got a medial patellar surgery done with Northlake for my pit bull. YES it is expensive. I had to get care credit to help make payments but everything is included. I paid $2800 but this included ALL medication, ALL checkups and whatever she needed. This is the normal price you're going to find anywhere for this surgery. After surgery they kept her for the night to make sure she did well. I had the staff call me throughout the day to let me know when surgery started, after surgery was finished and how she was doing after she woke up. The surgery has been so successful so far. She just got her staples removed and she's walking so much better. We have a lot of rehabilitation but she's making amazing progress. I believe Dr. Kevin Coleman did the surgery and he was incredible. He made me so comfortable, he explained everything to me and drew diagrams so I knew EVERYTHING. The incision was pristine. Very little normal bruising and swelling. NO discharge, no irritation. As someone whose working on a zoology degree these people inspire me. Not only this but my dog LOVES the staff. Whenever we go in the entire staff knows her and gets excited to see her. Georgia( my dog) just cuddles with them and loves them. I'm so grateful I came here. They took her to the back to remove her staples and I heard everyone in the back start saying "Georgia! Hey girly!" And a guy started singing her name, it was the cutest thing. LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM! Dr. Corse did a phenomenal job on my dog Rory's left knee TPLO a couple weeks ago. When we went in for our consult, he came out and talked to me for a while, answering my many questions perfectly and walking me slowly through the procedure. He is extremely confident and knowledgable, everything you want your pet's surgeon to be and more! I received a call before they put him under anesthesia, right after the surgery and again when Rory was awake. I was able to pick him up the following day. 2 weeks post op and Rory is healing like a total champ. We will be back in a month or so to see if he's ready for his right knee TPLO, as his injury is bilateral. I look forward to reconnecting with the Northlake team at that time. This practice is terrific! We had our pomeranian Andre in about nine years ago on the recommendation of our vet. Andre couldn't put weight on his rear right leg. Dr. Corse advised us his knee was slipping out of the socket and what procedure was required. Surgery was successful but recently Andre started favoring that leg again. Saw Dr. Corse and he took x-rays, compared them to nine years ago, manipulated the knee, etc and recommended not doing anything for a few weeks. On follow up Dr. Corse felt Andre was healing up and to keep an eye on him. Maybe put him on a diet! Dr. Corse is extremely knowledgeable and personable and takes the time to make sure you know whats going on. I feel very comfortable recommending Dr. Corse and Northlake Vererinary to anyone in need of orthopedic surgery. First class operation from start to finish! This is a great group I brought my 10 year old dog in to see Dr Corse last year after he had ACL surgery someplace else and did not seem to recover after more than a year. Dr Corse spent so much time with me at my visit and came up with a reasonable plan that did not include surgery to start but Dr Corse already suspected that the band used was broken. After a minimal procedure it was removed and my dogs quality of life improved dramatically he was also showing some lameness in his front leg and I chose to do PRP and it helped after a few weeks relieve that issue. This was a wonderful experience and I have a good caring vet for daily care but learned from this experience that it is worth the time and investment to see a specialist when needed and you won't find a more caring group that you will find here. read more

Doctor Corse is absolutely incredible. His bedside manner and his surgery skills are truly wonderful. I spend a lot of time with vets and surgeons because my husband and I foster dogs that are typically in really bad shape, so trust me when I say that he is one in a billion. My dog's wound healed up absolutely beautifully- and the incision/scar was so much smaller than I expected! Their pricing for a perineal hernia surgery was 3k, which I found was in alignment with blue pearl and several other veterinary surgery practices around Atlanta metro. My only complaint is that one of the front desk staff pulled a power trip with me the day that I dropped my dog off for surgery, and overall was pretty rude/difficult during every point of contact with her. From telling me that "They would not allow me" to take my dog home after surgery, to not calling me throughout the day to tell me how he was doing/when he was going into surgery, to not working with me on being 30 min late 2 days after the 85 collapse when Atlanta traffic was absurd. This honestly seemed like an anomaly as far as the staffing of this office goes. In juxtaposition, Azra (or maybe Audra? I am awful with names) was friendly, informative and thoughtful of the stress level of every dog parent coming through the door, myself included. She was fantastic throughout every point of contact with her. Overall- I highly recommend this office. I absolutely LOVE Dr. Corse and his team of vet techs. My oldest dog, who is usually a nutcase at the vet, was really happy to see him on our follow up appointment. I think this speaks best to his talents. read more

I was terrified to have my little Ernest have surgery to fix his 2 broken arm bones, but they allayed my fears. They call when your pet is being prepared for surgery, right before he goes into surgery, and while he's recovering. The surgeons are leaders in their field, and unlike human doctors, they are very accessible. They have the best nurses and receptionist! They understand your pet is a member of your family and treat them as such. They also are incredibly compassionate to the stress the pet's family is under during the recovery process. Unbelievable experience here despite the circumstances. My pup had multiple complications from her initial TPLO procedure (performed by another surgeon at another hospital) and Dr. Corse performed a TPLO revision that had to correct several critical issues (fractured Tibia, loose hardware, infection, etc). Dr. Corse was extremely thorough in discussing the challenges she faced, how he planned on addressing them, and what his expectations were short and long-term. Our consultation was great and he quickly put Dolly at ease--he's the type of doctor that will get on the ground and play with the dog until he earns their trust....he get's it! On the day of surgery, I was updated several times throughout the day by the office staff on Dolly's condition and then Dr. Corse phoned me following surgery to share his thoughts. Surgery was a success and Dolly, though not out of the woods yet, is progressing nicely. Dr. Coleman was equally impressive at our 2-week post-op (Dr. Corse was teaching a seminar and out of town) and was fully informed/prepped on Dolly's situation. I can't thank and recommend Northlake Veterinary Surgery enough. The cost for this particular procedure was more than fair and my only regret is not coming here initially. My vet sent me to Dr. Corse after my 75 pound dog suffered a leg injury. He diagnosed a torn CCL and recommended surgery, but was honest in letting me know I had some time before surgery became necessary and I could wait if I wanted to. I did want to because I hoped the leg may heal itself, but more importantly, I was quite nervous about putting my active dog through recovery. I definitely didn't want to do the psychological damage of putting her in a crate since she has never been in one, but I knew I had to keep her calm. I procrastinated. Since it was such a big surgery, I also wanted a second opinion. Dr. Corse recommended TPLO and the second opinion surgeron said TTA. I began the research phase and discovered that 99% of the info out there is really different vets explaining why the surgery they do is best, but very little academic research with real results. I ended up at UGA, figuring the vets there would be on the forefront of technology (they were) and they recommeded TPLO. They also knew Dr. Corse and said he would be a fine choice if I didn't want to use them. I ended up coming back to Northlake Veterinary Surgery instead of driving to Athens for surgery and follow-ups. Dr. Corse knew what I was doing and answered questions for me during my research and supported my endeavor to find all the answers I could. I was nervous about whether the surgery would be successful and what the recovery would be like, but I knew it had to be done. I was pleasantly surprised when I picked my dog up the next day and she wasn't zonked out, she was alert and even putting a very small amount of weight on her bandaged leg. She looked like she came through the surgery fine. Instead of putting her in a crate and using that crazy Elizabethan collar, I just watched her all day and kept her calm. I only used the collar when I had to leave her alone, and I put her in an exercise pen instead of a crate. I knew my dog wouldn't like the hard plastic Elizabethan collar, so the nurse also gave me a softer one that was made out of cloth that she didn't mind. The recovery wasn't nearly as bad as I had feared, once I realized it is ok for the dog to walk around a little bit, just not too much and no jumping on furniture or walking up flights of stairs. Those are pretty easy to keep at bay if you just pay a little attention. After a week or so, when I knew the incision had begun healing, I asked if I could put a little Grannick's Bitter Apple on the bandage to make sure she wouldn't chew it. Dr. Corse said I could and it woked well. Within two weeks, my beloved dog was putting significant weight on her bad leg and after 3 months or so she was more or less completely healed. It's now 9 months later and she is doing great. I wrote this long review so that you don't have to spend the time and money that I did getting second opinions and conducting research -- if your dog has a torn CCL, just let Dr. Corse do the TPLO surgery and you'll be happy you did! It's not nearly as painful or tramatic for the dog as I had feared, it's much worse to let them walk on a hurt leg. I probably should have done the surgery sooner, but I wanted to be sure. Waiting doesn't really help anything, the leg will just keep getting worse and your dog won't be getting the exercise that is necessary for health and happiness. read more

So here goes. During the last dozen or so years we've had 5 TPLO surgeries, a growth removed from a shoulder, and this week, a severely broken leg repaired. Doc's Corse and Coleman and their staff are simply superb. They listen and go over every concern and inform and educate their patients families. We have three current dogs who had their surgeries 9 yrs., 4 yrs. and three days ago. The 9 yr. and 4 yr. olds are GSD who are fully active and are titled K9 Nosework dogs who jump and play like puppies when not working. The one who just had a leg repaired is a registered service dog who was hit by a car while pushing a member of the family out of the way. The break is horrific, almost looks like it was sawed in half. We live in Alabama and our vet suggested Northlake rather than anyone in Birmingham or Alabama except for Auburn University. Yup. I took my dog here for some joint issues few months ago. They prescribed her a regimen including fish oil, glucosamine, and meloxican and told me to "give it a try, if it works, great, if not bring her back in for more invasive testing like a joint tap." Luckily it worked but when I just tried to get the meloxicam refilled at an online pharmacy, Northlake rejected their prescription authorization. There could have been 3-4 different things causing her lameness and he gave me the option to choose what tests we should run first. Dr. Coleman did an incredible job on my dog Roofus's left knee TPLO and everything about my experience was fantastic from start to finish. When I took Roofus for his initial scans, Dr. Coleman personally walked me through what the procedure and recovery would be like and answered any questions that I had. Even though I was obviously upset that Roofus had to undergo surgery, Dr. Coleman's confidence, transparency and knowledgeable answers to my questions made me feel better in no time. On the day of Roofus's surgery, the entire NVS staff was so great at keeping me updated by giving me a call when he was put under, when the surgery was complete, when he woke up, and even another call an hour after that to let me know his breathing was normal (Roofus is an English Bulldog so this was my primary concern). The staff assured me I could call as much as I needed to check in on him, which was awesome because it made me feel even more comfortable - they even sent me pictures of him when I asked! I just took Roofus in for his 8-week check and got the all-clear to start him on his rehabilitation plan which they outlined for me on a sheet of paper and once again walked me through and answered all my questions. I wish that I could go to NVS for every single vet visit I love this staff so much. You can tell they truly care about their patients and their patient's parents! I don't write reviews often, but the service we recently received at Northlake was phenomenal and deserves far more than 5 stars. They have carpeted floors and cushioned exam tables, which allowed our pup to feel more comfortable and right at home. Something I really appreciated was that both the technician and veterinarian spent time getting to know Oscar by sitting down on the floor, greeting him with belly rubs and praise. Dr. Coleman was absolutely amazing. He spent a great deal of time (45+ minutes) walking us through the x-ray images and physical examination. He, along with everyone else we encountered, was so compassionate and understanding of our concerns.
