I came here because IHOP was hoppin' (couldn't resist) and I was too hungry to wait 30 minutes. The menu is your typical diner menu. Less breakfast/brunch choices, more dinner options. I ordered the challah french toast. Delicious I must say, but for 6 dollars, I only got 2 slices with no accompaniment. My mom ordered a spanish omelette, and I was not impressed and certainly did not think the dish was worth the price. Probably will not come again. Next time, I will wait in line at IHOP if I want decent breakfast/brunch foods. read more

I am really sad to write this review because I've been going to this place fairly regularly for years now. Their food is average "what you would expect from a diner" but their service had always been super friendly and they're open 24 hours so the choices are slim at 3am. They had a solid chicken noodle soup that was always perfect for the cold weather or when I'm feeling a little under. However, today, got a chicken noodle soup to go and when I got home (10 minutes?) the soup was absolutely putrid. I don't mean when something tastes a little funny... I mean putrid, like garbage water putrid. I almost gaged just from smelling it. I don't understand how a restaurant can let a food they serve get this bad...what's worse is that I don't understand how they can put something that smells that expired into a container and let someone take it home. My suspicion is that their food quality in the kitchen is so poor that such a putrid smell seems normal to them, and so all staff have gone nose-deaf. Sadly, another late night option bites the dust. read more

My wife and I are never disappointed with the NSD. Service is excellent and so are the portion sizes. A complete dinner runs about $20. Many come with soup, salad, vegetable, potato, entree, and dessert. We often have fish, which is always fresh. Club sandwiches are always tasty. My favorite diner! It's open 24/7 and they have the best food! I honestly have never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. My favorite is honestly the deluxe cheeseburger. Putting the onion rings on the burger adds to the flavor and makes it taste even better. They have great waffles and pancakes too. I've also had the broccoli and cheese omelette and was surprised with how good it was. Definitely a spot I will continue to go to. read more

Another poor experience at North Shore Diner. Have eaten here many times, mostly good experiences. Seems to depend on who the service person is. Last two visits got the same waiter, and had the same problem. Always seems in a hurry, absolutely no personality. Complained about him to manager John last visit. Got him again today, same result. Tried to charge us for a refill for ice tea until I complained. After initial service, never came back to the table. Had to get manager to sit with us, to tell him we were very unhappy with service. He tried to deflect by telling us about his vaccination. Did same sort of thing last time we complained. Talks a lot, but doesn't seem to listen.Said we should ask for a different waiter next time. Offered nothing in compensation, even after I asked what he was going to do about it, eg. reduce price of the meal or a desert, as is routinely done in other places when there is an issue. Did not leave a tip. Paid with a credit card, and will be filing a dispute. Will never return as there are plenty of other places to eat and get much better service. read more

If it's in between cooking and eating here, I would cook. If it's in between roasting road kill and eating here, I would attempt to marinate the roadkill and eat it. It is life's enigma why this place is always packed. I've gone here on 3 separate occasions, each time ordering breakfast food (which should be the staple of every diner, and perfected). The eggs tasted worse than the ones that come out as liquid out of a carton. Bland cardboard. Probably what eating paper would feel like... not that I would know. Potatoes: tasteless. On one of the three visits, I accidentally spilled water on myself. Not a splash. THE whole glass. Waiter nowhere to be seen. When I DID flag one down, I asked for napkins. Instead of immediately getting them, he waddled over, looked at the situation, muttered something, and walked away - came back with two napkins. Worst. Diner. Ever. We were hungry last night and looking for some good greasy food before starting a diet (today, promise!) and we came across the North Shore Diner and we figured we'd give it a shot because really, how can you eff up a burger right? Turns out you can screw up a burger and wings and fries in many, many ways. We got the buffalo wings from the "munchies menu" to share as an appetizer. I was confused when they came out because they basically just looked like fried chicken - no buffalo to speak of. I asked the waiiter is they were buffalo wings or fried chicken and he looked at me like I was an idiot. The wings were overcooked and surprisingly bland for something classified as "spicy." The burgers came out and they were ok. The only thing that made them palatable was the addition of bacon. The fries were limp, undercooked and unseasoned. Total disappointment. I mean you don't go to a diner expecting a gourmet meal, but you do expect that the food will be tasty and cooked well - at the North Shore don't expect either. Would I come here again? Yes, but I would have to buy two meals. One for me and one for the person holding a gun to my head. read more

Two words: chocolate. milkshake. My friend got one, and I took a sip of his and instantly ordered one for myself. It was so thick and creamy and almost tasted like more of a malt than a milkshake. I had the salmon benedict (I know that's a weird dish to pair with a milkshake... but the shake was THAT. GOOD.), and it was ok. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't spectacular either. It is one of the few establishments in the area that's open 24 hours, and that's the only reason I kept coming back. I had a couple bad experiences here... On one occasion they overcharged us. This was my second time here. Both times, food being what I thought was overpriced for the quality. I got the salmon eggs benedict and after reading a review of someone who had swapped theirs for another dish, I should NOT have ordered it. (Dumb on my part). The dish not worth $15.25. By all means this was the worst eggs benedict dish I've ever eaten and its a shame because I treat myself to this special dish only so often, so when I do, I expect it to meet my expectations and let me tell you, I make it better at home!! If you look at my picture you can see the YOLK of one of the eggs. This means that it is not poached, it was cooked Sunnyside! Both were doused in the Hollandaise Sauce, probably to cover their atrocity. When you cut open a poached egg the creamy yolk is supposed to gently and slowly spill out of the egg. In this case, it leaked out so fast that within 2 seconds the egg was completely deflated and my entire plate was a pool of yellow liquid. It definitely wasn't cooked as much as it should have been. I understand that poached eggs are hard to master. But if you're an establishment selling it you better know how to make them right or maybe just don't even put them on the menu at all. Moving on to other things, the English muffins of both eggs were slightly burnt and very hard to cut through. My potatoes were also CLEARLY burnt as you can see in the picture, as well as my boyfriend's omelette. What is up with the kitchen? Are they even trying? The restaurant wasn't even full. The waiter never came back to the table after dropping off our food. In fact I don't even know who our waiter was because an old man very fastly escorted us to our table, a different person came to take our order and another person came to drop off the food. No one ever bothered coming back to check up on us. Poor customer service is one of my biggest pet peeves and let me tell you they nailed that one! What kind of tip do you expect me to give you for that and who am I even supposed to tip? definitely not worth a $27 meal and won't be coming back at all. read more

This is an OK place to enjoy breakfast. I made a suggestion to come here with hubby and mother-in-law because we've been going to quite the same Diner that's closer to mommy's. So I wanted something for a change. I remember this place from a visit to mommy's doctor nearby and we stopped to get some tuna sandwich for lunch. The sandwich was better than the most places, so I thought why not try breakfast here. After trying the breakfast here, it's nothing that's really that special. I would probably come back but not for breakfast, maybe lunch. I ordered the western omelette. It's not bad but not great. My mother-in-law had a vegetable omelette. Mommy and I both had out breakfast served with lettuce and tomatoes. These 2 are fresh. I cleanup all the lettuce! Hubby had turkey bacon and 2 sunny side up eggs. Location is pretty good, Northern and Francis Lewis Boulevards meet. Coffee was ok. Service was ok. I'm ok! read more

This place is great any time of the day. I've been there for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and for late-night meals. The service is fast and friendly, and the portions are huge. The desserts are quite delicious (I love the napoleon!) and sometimes the waiters give you extra cookies, haha. Sometimes, depending on the amount of people in your group, you have to wait on line during peak hours, but the wait is never too long because there are plenty of people working at a quick pace to keep everything flowing nicely. read more

We usually pass by this diner and see that it is always packed. So we decided to try one time and realized it will be the first and last. Our waiter has negative side comments about our orders even pressured us into ordering immediately after showing us our table. He even commented that he cannot understand my English. I have to repeat my order slowly. It is our first time and I felt traumatized with how this waiter dealt with us. To the owners, please train them good customer service. No need to be rude. Diners like this are why I loved living in New York in the first place. Every neighborhood has its own and every one has their own personality. Unfortunately, my Diner burned down a couple of years back and I had to find a new place to call my own. North Shore was my rebound diner. It was a tad fancier then my old place, but the food was solid and my girlfriend loved the lobster bisque served on Fridays. (just fridays) They too are opened 24 hours I believe. You sometimes will always see the same crowd at odd hours of the night coming home from bars and clubs. The parking lot seems to be perpetually full, but it was never a hassle to find a spot. Not a bad place to just grab some food if you're not in the mood to go any where else. They're a bit on the expensive side but its a diner so you can't expect it to be cheap. They have some really awesome homemade French Onion Soup, but make sure you eat it quick or else the cheese will harden. They always get their fries right! Always crispy and delicious. They're salads are bit on the bland side, nothing too special about them. I ordered it last time because I wanted to try something new but its not their specialty and it was a bit expensive around $12 for this particular salad. read more

A friend and I came here late night cuz we just wanted to munch on something. Turns out this was the only place that was open so we came here. She ordered buffalo wings, swt potato fries and a milk shake. I get myself a chicken quesadilla. Quesadilla - tons of chopped, fresh grilled chicken (+), not so much cheese or sauce or anything else (-). thank goodness for the salsa Milk shake - it was okay but it was a lot smaller than I expected from a diner. Fries - fine Wings - now I lived in Buffalo for 5 years and eat them regularly around in the city and I have NEVER seen Buffalo Wings that come with NO SAUCE. It was a plate of fried chicken wings and a side of blue cheese sauce for dipping. But why are the wings SAUCELESS???!?!?! Having basically grown up with the Bayside diner and the Blue Bay diner, I decided a few weeks ago to venture out and try this one after so many years. I really like it! The coffee isn't as dark roasted as the one at the Bayside, and the food edges out the Blue Bay by a hair. Review for waffles and eggs Came in here and the service is very quick, in an efficient way. I had their waffle with whipped cream and mixed fruits. The mixed fruits were cantaloupe, ruby grapefruit, grapefruit, grape, apple, honeydews. And i tthink there were tangerines. It sounda weird with whiles cream out of the can sprayed on top of the fruits, which are on top of the waffle, but the waffle was so~ good. Crunch you get from a fresh waffle and the softness inbetween the crunch exterior. Not too sweet and not flat in flavor. Absolutely delicious. My friend had an omelet with feta cheese with toast and home fries. The omelet was extremely salty and the home fries were mediocre. What a super friendly and quick place for diner food. Me and my friend came on a Saturday, they valet parked the car and we were seated pretty quickly. It was very busy during Saturday lunch time. Our waitress was super sweet and got us our waters and because I really wanted a pickle, got us coleslaw and pickle to nibble on. I got the grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato with russian sauce triple decker. Ah! I miss russian sauce. It def cured my craving for this tasty sauce. It was a very well packed meat decker and lots of good diner fries. Plus the waitress got us a second serving of pickles. YAY! read more

Came here in the morning for a very early breakfast. I like how extended their hours are. I had a simple meal: 2 poached eggs with toast and home fries. My boyfriend had a feta cheese and mushroom omelette. The breakfast food here is of good quality. Not too heavily seasoned and they give out good portion sizes. The three stars is for the other times I've been here during dinner and late midnight hours. And their evening food, I personally don't think is as good as their breakfast food. Everything tastes even less fresh than deli quality but more expensive. Service - is so-so. I feel like the long hours might actually burn out their workers. The night staff always look so miserable - I can't blame them, but sometimes they give an attitude when we don't even ask for much or make any mistakes. I would recommend for breakfast. read more

There are lots of diners in the Bayside/Flushing area and this one kinda blends into the background. Had the Philly Cheesesteak here twice, it's honestly very good, but it is served on a bland roll, it should be served on a nice piece of bread that has been dipped in au jus or something. read more
