I've had great experiences with the vet himself--he's friendly, professional, and clearly cares about his patients. The facilities are clean, and most of the staff is welcoming and helpful. However, I have to agree with other reviews regarding the front desk woman. Unfortunately, she's consistently rude and dismissive, both in person and over the phone. It's especially upsetting when I'm calling because my dog is sick, and her attitude comes across as uninterested and unhelpful. It genuinely makes what should be a supportive environment feel cold and frustrating. If it weren't for her, I'd easily give 5 stars and wholeheartedly recommend this location. The vet is great--but the front desk experience is a real drawback. read more

If you care about your pet, please think twice about bringing them here. My two dogs were patients of this clinic for years since they were puppies. I had been bringing up concerns to the vet for a long time (YEARS!) on my girl and he was just dismissive and wasn't listening to me, saying it could be anything. Time went by and my dog's condition got worse to the point that the doc administered her vaccines and she fell really ill, I thought it was the end. The doc recommended me to a specialist (VSC in Bannockburn) to further diagnose my pup. It turned out, per VSC, North Hoffman Veterinary Clinic missed her kidney failure for years!!! Please keep in mind, this vet office is who referred me over to the specialist and the specialist confirmed that my dogs compromised kidneys were present in her lab work completed by this office years ago, they had just missed it. So not sure if it's a case of not listening to his patients/clients, lack of care, or plain incompetence. I deeply regret trusting this vet to look after my pets. With the help of VSC I was able to prolong my dogs life for a little over a year and she has since passed away at 5 years old. I just know if we had caught her kidney disease 4 years ago when her symptoms first started and the bloodwork was showing signs of compromised kidneys, I would have gotten more time with her. I have not been back and would not recommend anyone else to. read more

Dr Jon J. Is one of the nicest vets I have ever met. He has taken great care of all my dogs and I travel far to come and see him. His office staff and vet techs are super nice and kind to all the animals. I'm so grateful to have a vet I really like after having so many who just wanted to pad the bill and charge you for everything. They don't do that here, it's a one man shop so you might have to wait a bit for an appointment but they are worth it. read more

We started seeing Dr. Jacobson last year, after trying two other vets in the area who we didn't care for. Dr. Jacobson seems to really care about the pets he sees, doing his best to put our cat at ease. I am probably in the minority but I tried NH vet on 2 seperate occasions a few years apart and I am not a fan. For one of my animals, I felt like I was being talked at which is interesting because the website said they pride themselves on getting to know people and personalized care. I felt like I was being force fed procedures to make split decisions on and that is not my style. A few years later with a different animal I brought in twice and was given different information than the first time. Also, the biggest turn off is when I was asking very black and white questions and the vet walked out of the room and was literally talking to me from down the hall. I'm sure for many if these reviews it works for them. I feel like it was 3 strikes your out for me. I've been taking my two fur babies to see Dr. Jacobson the last couple years. It's truly comforting to know that he honestly cares about the well being of my pets. Unlike other vet office, he won't try to sell you on services that are not necessary. Last year I had to take my frenchie to the ER due to being bit by his sister. He had multiple stitches that needed to be taken out days later. Dr. Jacobson was able to fit me in between patients and didn't even charge me for this service. His and passion and love for animals is very apparent and I wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else. read more

I cannot recommend North Hoffman Veterinary Clinic or Dr. Jacobson highly enough. They are most dedicated and caring, and Dr. Jacobson always made time in his busy schedule to see and examine our 14 year old Shih Tzu named Asia whenever she had any problems or emergencies which were related to her collapsing trachea or other ailments. He went out of his way to figure out different and more effective avenues of treatment as her problems progressed, and always took a positive and encouraging approach. This clearly demonstrates his love for pets and desire to do whatever it takes to help alleviate their problems and improve their quality of life. Sadly, her ailments were getting much worse and later compounded by a serious and painful leg injury, so we made the painful decision of having to say goodbye to her. Pets have their ways of letting you know that it's time to do so, but we are so grateful to Dr. Jacobson for taking such excellent care of her and making her last 18 months much better than they otherwise would have been. The staff was wonderful as well, and I appreciate and recommend them very highly read more

I have been very loyal to this vet and helped build their practice. Now that they are busy, they won't be inconvenienced to see my dog for an emergency until they have an opening in 2-3 weeks. Worse, when I was there, they completely failed to diagnose my dog's serious joint injury. Yes, he's nice. But, how much does that matter when they fail you & more importantly fail your pet. Pets in pain is not their concern and that's a big problem. It is sad they have declined in care so much. If all is well, they are fine. But, don't wait to get your pet in when they're in pain. They won't fit you in & they won't properly diagnose or care for your pets. read more

If you're looking for a vet that cares about your pet and not the money in your wallet this is the place. The vet is kind and knowledgeable and you really don't need to even look anywhere else. After going to a corporate owned veterinary clinic for years we finally made the switch after the receptionist at the old place refused to even hear what was wrong with my dog over the phone. Places like that don't care about your pet and just want their $50 co-pay and whatever else they can charge you for. That is not the case here. I can't say enough about Dr. Jacobson or his practice. He has proven to be thoughtful and informative. He always patiently tells us our options. When we've questioned him about a procedure we'd heard of, he could have just said, sure and sold it to us, but he advised against it as unnecessary. Dr. Jacobson didn't just recommend a specific food for our pup, rather he educated us on what a quality food company with reputable research looks like so we could make informed decisions ourselves. In Dec. '16 I took both our guinea pigs to see Dr. Jacobson specifically because one, Patches, had a growth on her neck that was small when we got her from a shelter but had grown over the past 4 years and was becoming worrisome. Dr. Jacobson explained that there was elevated risk with general anesthesia on small pets during surgery. Our family worried the risk of surgery was not worth it because the growth was not life threatening and still didn't seem to be causing her any problems. We decided to wait and Dr. Jacobson didn't even charge us for our introductory appointment. Fast-forward to May '17 and we became increasingly concerned that the growth was getting larger, starting to become combersome and worried if it continued it would eventually be inoperable or more dangerous. I got a second opinion from another vet, who was also excellent - but quite a bit farther away and cost us a bit for this first appointment. In discussions with the other doctor I decided to get x-rays to see if there were additional internal tumors - there were not. It was another $200 for the x-rays but, despite the cost, I was glad we did because it gave us additional confidence in Patches general health - she seemed in good shape beside the tumor. In the end we decided to go ahead and have the surgery at North Hoffman Veterinary Clinic with Dr. Jacobson and staff - and everything went GREAT. The remainder of the day of the surgery Patches was lethargic and "out of it" - mostly just staring but once in a while we could get her to drink a little and eat a little. Dr. Jacobson said that was expected from the meds and surgery but to keep monitoring hear eating, drinking, etc. The next morning Patches was pretty much back to being herself with the exception of the shaved fur. She was eating, drinking, etc. and her sister accepted her back as if nothing had happened as well (again, despite her shaved look). it has been about 2 weeks, we are really glad we had the surgery and glad we have North Hoffman Veterinary Clinic so close to home. They are really nice people who understand the medical and financial dynamics of surgery on a small pet, are clearly skilled at this successful surgery and were closer and more cost effective than our alternatives. He has been caring for our little silky terrier since we adopted her 2 1/2 years ago and not only am I super comfortable but my Tippy feels so comfortable with him and the sweet staff! I am so glad we brought our dog to North Hoffman Veterinary. Dr. Jacobson is thorough, incredibly knowledgeable, and takes the time to explain things and answer questions as they come up. We get a warm welcome every time we come in and our dog loves visiting! We recently switched from another practice after not being able to get resolution for an ongoing problem with our dog. After reviewing our pup's files and a few different tests, Dr. Jacobson was able to quickly diagnose and recommend a treatment plan for our dog who is now on the road to recovery. read more

Had a great experience with Dr. Jacobson! I moved recently and my regular vet is a bit of a drive. My dog wasn't feeling well and they took me in last minute. Staff was super nice and even made my dog feel comfortable! Sometime during his visit, he stopped shaking and wasn't panting - which never happens because he hates going to the vet. read more

Great Family Vet Clinic. We have been using Dr. Jacobsen since he opened the Clinic. He has taken the time to get to know both of our cats and our family. He is very caring and understands the practicalities of administering meds to cats. He took to the time to give me pointers on how to administer meds without getting scratched or bitten. Unfortunately, we have relocated across the country and can't continue using him. But, he was wonderful in assisting us in getting the necessary immunizations, health checks and forms. His last words to me as we left were spot on: "Don't worry, they are healthy and they will be all right." And, they were. Thanks. We'll miss you! read more

I started going to North Hoffman Veterinary Clinic when it first opened. I had a bad experience with the vet I had been going to for 35 years and was looking for a new vet. I stopped in to meet the staff and Dr. Jacobson seemed so knowledgeable, very up to date on all aspects of veterinary medicine and easy going that next time I needed a vet I gave him a try. He is wonderful! I recommended him to several other people who now go to him. He is a very caring man. One day I came to him with a ferrell cat that I saw get hit by a car in very heavy traffic. He was laying in the middle of the road raising his head up looking at traffic but couldn't move. My husband grabbed him and threw him in the back of my car. When we got to where we were going, we found we couldn't get the cat out of my car, he was under the seat and terrified. I called North Hoffman Veterinary Clinic and was told to come right over. Dr Jacobson came out with a long pole with a loop on the end and when he failed to capture the cat he chased the poor thing until he got him. The cat was very fast even though he was dragging his hind legs. After using anesthesia to sedate the cat, we decided he couldn't be helped. Dr Jacobson euthanized him to put him out of his critical situation. Dr Jacobson didn't charge me anything except what the cost of cremating the cat would cost him. This man is full of compassion for animals even if they don't have a home and caring family to pay for their treatment. I could go on and on, but I think you know why I give North Hoffman Estates Veterinary Clinic 5 stars. read more

I recently relocated to the area (from CO), and my XL mixed breed dog needed urgent dental care for his infected gums, and several rotten / cracked teeth. Some friends recommended NHVC, and from the time we walked thru the door, Dr. Jacobson immediately put me (and my dog) at ease with his calming, professional manner. We scheduled the surgery for a few days later, and it went perfectly. Really appreciated the follow up calls from Dr. J & Megan checking on how Biggie was doing.
