Warning: while aprons are provided, acrylic paint stains - wear clothes you don't mind becoming "painter chic" should your brain reach to scratch an itch forgetting what it's covered it. Let me take you back to elementary school art class. Every time I walked into that classroom, I hoped that I would be working with liquid paint, but alas, it was a rarity. I've heard about these paint and sip experiences, and wanted to give it a try for a bit. Recently, I finally had the opportunity to give it a go. It ended up being a fantastic experience! Furthermore, while I wasn't that impressed with my own work while comparing to some of the others in the studio, when I looked at it the next day, i couldn't help but feel at least a little proud of myself. I am still a little shocked that "I made this, and it looks great!" The staff at the studio were all around great! They helped us be as creative as we wanted to be, with some people (including myself) requesting supplemental colors). We were also welcome to add our own elements, or even paint something entirely different. Kudos also to the guide for being loud enough to be clearly heard (especially as someone with hearing loss), and on the instructions being easy to follow. While it would have been nice if the setup was such that her head wasn't in the way while she was painting, I appreciate that this can be hard to accomplish without a bunch of electronics. Finally, as we were all there as part of an organized experience through 222 (dinner with strangers and some kind of event to follow), the staff was also fantastic about incorporating blocks of time for us to take a break, socialize, and change seats, if we so fancied. Thus, I enjoyed myself so much that I am looking at returning at some point in the near future and trying my hand at a different painting. Soon, there will be more art on my walls, and when I have people over, I will be able to proudly tell them that these are things I painted myself (with just a little guidance).

Zero. Stars. I have…read morebeen trying to get a good Paintnite event with a group of friends going for years. Never able to realize it: just received notice of the 3rd time that the event I purchased was cancelled suddenly. Absolutely ridiculous. My friend group no longer trusts the events I try to make because they fall through every. single. time. To be honest, it might be the artist's fault since all three were the same artist. (Is there any consequence to them for that? There should be. I would've guaranteed enough people to make it worth it). Regardless, Paintnite staff was not very accommodating, either. They make apologies and say they can take requests, but actually will not (or cannot). What a joke. At some point real soon I am going to demand a full *cash* refund. "Rescheduling" is a joke. 3 years of looking and sifting through the crappy offerings in downtown Chicago area with NOTHING to show for it? Not worth it. I am not even excited about trying it anymore - I can do better by myself. Third time's a charm, I guess. TLDR: sudden cancellations, no refunds, extremely poorly run organization. Do not recommend.

There weren't very many events in Chicago, most are in the suburbs. We ended up at Glascott's in Lincoln Park, luckily there was something I wanted to paint somewhere close by. There were plenty of boring painting options that I wasn't excited about. Abstract Cow was perfect. The instructor did a really good job overall. This clearly wasn't her first time teaching, and she was entertaining while keeping the instruction clear. The way the room was set up wasn't optimal for seeing what she was doing. The backroom at Glascott's isn't really the best choice for this kind of thing, it was hot, dirty, and dark. That says a lot about Glascott's, but if Yaymaker chooses this venue more than once...meh. I'm actually pretty surprised I left the event looking forward to going to another one. I never expected to enjoy this kind of thing, but Yaymaker does a decent job. If they had more options in locations easier to get to (Paint Your Pet is only at the Itasca Holiday Inn??) I'd probably be planning on another one. Surprisingly enough, my painting actually looks like a cow. My brother and sis-in-law were shocked.

Hang up your jacket, grab a paint suit and a pair of rubber boots and head over to your station. Primary colors are your choices to mix with the intention of being as freely creative as possible. The canvas is blank, you are the artist so express yourself. I do have to warn you; spinning that wheel is quite the work out for your arms. I can still feel the burn. Lol. Spinning slow allows more control with your paint placement. Spinning fast allows more of an abstract splatter placement. Either way, those biceps and triceps are burning. There is even a secret tool for those daring to be even more creative; a leaf blower. Keep in mind, this is a messy, fun activity. Don't wear your best clothes. If you attend four times, your fifth visit is FREE! Or if you attend three times and leave a Google review, that counts as one of your visits. How cool is that. This is also a BYOB if interested. Spin Art Nation also hosts parties in the back room. A splatter room! They place your canvas on the wall and you can fill water balloons and squirt guns with paint and have a blast. There is also a drum set where you can splatter beat a master piece. For music, the room is blue tooth compatible. Let's go!!!
