North beach boardwalk: Beautiful views. Always some kind of entertainment going on. Farmers market in the summer, live music most weekends, super dog friendly and family friendly. Beautiful picture opportunities, perfect for strolls with your significant other (as I usually do, after we get our ice cream from jangos) great for dog walks, morning or evening runs, great for walking with your family, sitting and enjoying the scenery, fishing or crabbing off the pier, etc. cute little shops and bike paths. I was very pleased with this beach. If you're looking for something like Ocean City you won't find it here but if you just want a nice quiet place to relax, swim and grab a bite this is a good place for you. The shoreline is broken up into small sections and I preferred that because it wasn't so crowded that you couldn't find a space to lay down. There's also a place for the kids to play by the wooden boat. The pier offers a beautiful view and the small shops are nice. It's way overpriced and infested with pets feces (poop that is). Very tight spot and way too shallow for swimming. Very hard to find a spot to even lay down your towel. The beach is also littered with dead tree logs. The steep ledge or cliff on shore is also to collapse any moment on beach goers. It's a deadly hazard to public safety and I'm shocked that those responsible for this park aren't doing anything about it. read more

$17 per adult for what again? Is the $17 going towards the rickety boardwalk that hasn't been updated in years? Or is the ridiculous fee for the out-of-hand bee issue that the beach never sprays for? I know, the $17 pp fee is to assist in paying the seasonal salary of the booth attendant that can barely speak or put their phones down to do their intended job. I've been visiting this beach for years and this fee must include the amount to keep a specific Maryland resident and family from enjoying a sub-par, convenient place to soak up some sun. I like to take myself out on 'dates' - so one day I decided to take a trip out to North Beach. My first impressions was that it's a nice little beach town. It has a nice array of shops. I went into Sweet Sue's, the local grocery, and candy shop. Coming from the suburbs, I enjoyed the small, intimate, old timey feel of the stores. My only complaint is that it cost $17 to get on the beach. Therefore, I decided to leave the swimsuit and flip flops at home. Nevertheless, I'll be back! More than likely to check out the antique shop. read more

The town of North Beach is small, quaint, and friendly. Not a whole lot of commerce but it's a great community and a great place to live. We love bringing friends over to Bay Wine and Spirits for a glass of wine and live music on Friday nights, to shop and enjoy live music at The Wheel, to the Farmers Market on Friday nights, and to purchase local produce and meats at Chesapeake's Bounty. Could use a few more restaurants, for sure, but Hook and Vine just opened and we have high hopes the owners will heed the advice of their patrons and smooth out the wrinkles. And we're hoping for two more spots to open up with some variety in the coming months. But you won't find friendlier residents or lovelier views of the Chesapeake any where else! read more

Small little town with a nice boardwalk along the beach. Very nice place to watch the sun rise and fall, along with the variety of wildlife. During the season there is a charge to go on the beach, but that covers the cost of the staffing needed to clean up the area and maintain the beauty of the area! Lots of things to do there any time of the week. On the weekdays a great place to walk your dog or jog. On Friday nights they have a great farmers market, with craft items and an antique car show. On the weekends just a great place to hang with the crowd. And there is always Chesapeake Bounty for great local produce and baked goods. read more

There aren't a lot of options for beaches a short drive from us, so this was a decent find. There is free parking, but you must pay to use the beach. Keep in mind there are no lifeguards. No alcohol is permitted on the beach. No tents or tent-like structures; no thong bikinis (ok, so there are a lot of rules - check the website for the full list). When you arrive, there is a visitor center where you pay. Then there are three little beaches you can use. The first time we went, we just picked the "first" beach to the left of the visitor center. The water was murky and slimy - icky for swimming, but cool for duck watching. After we watched the ducks for awhile, we moved down to the next beach. The water and sand here were very nice. The highlight for my daughter was the large wooden ship structure that kids could play in and climb on. It was also great because it kept her out of the sun for long stretches of time. If you rent an umbrella, the staff will bring it out and put it up for you. There are bathrooms on site and there was a food truck right outside when we went. There are also restaurants and shops along the boardwalk. read more

I have tried to come here twice on Saturday's, as driving to ocean city or Virginia beach is a hike. I understand that beaches can fill up, but their policies lack serious logic. Both times we have come here the men at the gate have told us that the parking lot is full...even though we can see people pulling out. This time I asked more questions, as not being able to get in AGAIN was so frustrating. "We only let more people in once a certain amount of people have left." What? So there's open spaces yet they have to have, say, 20 cars leave before more people can enter? Weird, but okay. "Well can I wait here so I can be the first to get in when they reopen?" Kids loved it because there is a breakwater which makes the swimming area very calm. It is also very shallow, all the way out. The odor of decaying marine life and vegetation was very strong and made me a little nauseous. My husband bought fish and chips from the food truck and it was quickly apparent that the fish was extremely fresh and local! Which was a negative in this case as it tasted exactly like the beach smelled. We had to throw it away, which turned out to be fine because it sort of killed everyone's appetite for the rest of the day. Which was nice since we'd spent 37 dollars to access the beach - we saved tons of money on food. The children pulled a variety of fascinating sea animals out of the water which we allowed since they were dead anyway so the children weren't torturing them. I took a stroll out into the water but quickly retreated because there was a layer of some squishy substance coating the bottom of the swimming area and I had a little panic attack. The kids didn't mind. As the day wore on, the whole area became sort of reminiscent of a huge toilet bowl. Lots of folks seemed to really enjoy it, though! Eventually we were able to drag the kids away and make our escape, only to find that the line to rinse off was around the building. However, the thought of putting the children, who smelled strongly of the rotten sea stench, into my minivan, and how that would effect valuation when/if I ever trade it in, fixed my resolution and we waited until we got a shower. The showers were very nicely kept and there were even private dressing stalls. Highly recommend! After scouring the children and throwing away their bathing suits, we were clean, refreshed and ready to go. The parking is excellent, so we didn't have to walk far. So I would definitely say that we will probably never return, even though the kids had a great time. read more

Maybe it's just me but beaches should be free. We drove an hour to come to this beach drove in circles a while looking for a free place to park. Found one for 2 hours..carried our stuff to the boardwalk and learned it was 17 dollars per adult. Walked around a few minutes and got back in the car. Very disappointed. read more

Their tax dollars should be going to this beach, so I am surprised that they have to pay anything. (+) Parking is free for two hours along the boardwalk (+) The boardwalk is nice but seems to have 5 or fewer shops. We walked the boardwalk, browsed the shops, and stopped at the sculpture park and was easily back to our car in under two hours. A good place to stretch your legs but not a good place to think you're spending the day. read more

Maybe I'm a little spoiled from growing up in Florida, but I would not call this a beach at all! I was very disappointed with North Beach. First, you have to pay $15 (non-county resident fee) to access the "beach". I don't think so! The "beach" was rather small and the water was very dark and murky. I guess that's what bay water looks like? I walked along the "boardwalk" and looked out into the bay. That was the highlight of this trip. It was a beautiful day so enjoying the view and the weather was nice. I would not recommend this "beach" if you want to really enjoy yourself and go swimming, but I guess if you just need something to do and want to get in the water it will work for some. Really enjoyed living in this area, I collected shark teeth every morning, off season was nicer for me, but they have a lot of cool stuff going on in the summer. Its a nice place, people care about their community and work hard to make it a great place to visit or live. read more

Overpriced. $15 per adult and $8 for kids. Free parking across the street but beach closes at 430. Prices were not posted on their website or we wouldn't have gone. Ocean city is free, sandy point was $5-6 last time I went, and both offer much larger swimming spaces and deep water. Not good for swimming since the water is so low. If you were looking to walk around and listen to the waves it would be nice but as far as swimming, flying a kite, or playing catch with a football with your kids, this is not the place. Also jellyfish are in the water during this time of year (September) and signs are posted to inform the public. read more

Well this is tricky. Saying Maryland is price gouging is like saying they make the best crab cakes. If you believe that I got a bridge to sell you. Some places might but you the tourist wont find it and if you do bring your credit card because cash won't do it. Anyway I have fond memories of Maryland beaches cause my father paid for it. I like Chesapeake and North beach but I no longer go near the water so the little beach does not bother me. Kids like the baby beach though and you can watch them. The admission price is steep so make one or two trips last all summer. We used to bring our own stuff so admission is all my dad paid. If you want to just beach all day, Breezy point is near there and I remember having good days there, as well as, Sparrows point, Carr's Beach, Later Sandy Point and others I do not remember. Sometimes the beaches were packed so you had to beach hop. These days I usually stop here for nostalgia. If money low I don't buy anything. If not I buy everything. As far as water parks, That's a kid teenager thing. Everyone knows they like peeing up the water anyway, so no thanks. Well there you have it and good luck! read more

Best beach near DC! Yes, it costs money, but if you value cleanliness and peace while enjoying the beach, it's the best place. Plus, it's a cute little town, the water is netted, so you don't have to worry about jellyfish (unlike other nearby ones), and it is perfect for kids. There is even a big wooden boat and swings right on the sand to keep them entertained. We will never bother with some crowded, touristy beach, this is way more relaxing! And parking is right there too, so you're not lugging all your belongings for half a mile! read more

This is ridiculous. Pay for parking and pay for beach access. The water depth is maybe 3 ft. Great for toddlers but my 6 & 8 year olds were bored to death. I'll never come back here. The staff was rude as well. We'd have more fun at our hotel pool. read more

Ok, so we came out to North Beach without looking for reviews, so bad on us, but let me tell you....this excuse for a beach was ridiculously terribly pathetic. First, before we even parked, they handed us a price list and a laundry list of rules. Clearly this was a bad omen for what was to come. Almost $20 per adult. Are. You. Kidding!!!! We parked just across the beach, I mean across from the area called a "beach", which after we entered, was smaller then an apartment pool, I mean it was literally a lame attempt to make money for this small Chesapeake town, probably the only way to pay for the volunteer fire department. No coolers larger than 9 quarts. That means leave your family size coolers at home bc these folks clearly want you to buy their overpriced beverages instead of bringing your own. The beach length was in all honesty probably the length of a tennis court. With nasty green plastic-like seaweed and this great view of a caterpillar backhoe which was probably used to dredge the local marina. "Oh I have a great idea, lets park our dredging barge in front of our only tiny money making beach bc God forbid we park it someplace else, like say, the marina. And I almost forgot the wall which surrounds the want-to-be-beach. Rocks on one side and this wall, which I'm assuming breaks the current off from washing away the 20 feet of sand. Save your self some of your hard earned dollars and go to a real beach instead of wasting your time and money at this pathetic excuse of a stretch of sand. read more
