Old school, no frills restaurant serving your classic American food. Orders: Chicken & Waffles $18 Crispy golden fried chicken & a fluffy waffle is a typical dish to order. Country Fried Steak Plate $19 Love how vegetables & a side is included with this country fried steak. San Francisco Burger $13 On a crisp buttered sourdough bread with grilled onions & Swiss cheese, the hamburger had no flavor so I had to rely on ketchup for flavor. A nice local breakfast spot that has fast service.

We had The Princess with us and wanted lunch. As we were driving down the street, I pulled into Norman's. Plenty of parking and outdoor seating is just what we needed. I grabbed a table and she went inside to grab menus. She was told that someone would be with us shortly. We waited quite few minutes before menus and set-ups were brought out. We ordered drinks and our server asked if we'd like a bowl of water for The Princess. Yes, please. I never stepped into the restaurant so I have no idea how busy it was inside, but the parking lot was not full, so I take that as a clue. Every now and then, I get a craving for Fish but not Chips. I asked and was offered Potato Salad as a substitute. Yes, I know that they're still potatoes, but preference is preference. She ordered Spaghetti and was very happy with her order. I'm knocking one star this visit because the service wasn't as we've become accustomed to here.

Traditional American breakfast fare - this is the place. Although I have been here several times, it didn't dawn on me that if I didn't know any better I would be in a Midwest diner. On this occasion I haven been craving for hot open face turkey sandwich. Believe it or not, this dish is rare only traditional diners or hot brau. The plating made the quantity of food small. A thick slice of bread topped with three good slices of turkey smothered with gravy along with smashed potatoes also smothered with gravy and a helping of cranberry jelly. The gravy helped. This dish reminded me of the infrequency I have it, no disrespect to this establishment. It was fine and satisfied my craving. I will be back for other breakfast fare. The service was fine and friendly.

Stopped in on Sunday before Cal State commencement. Greeted and immediately seated. Nostalgic diner with LP vinyl records and album covers on the walls. Service was great even with a steady stream of customers. Ordered a low carb Benedict and pastrami sandwich. The sandwich bottom bread was too soggy to hold the sandwich.

Solid breakfast. I haven't been here in years and I was very pleased with my breakfast this morning. No frills just what you see (or read on the menu) is what you get. 4 pieces of French toast served with scrambled eggs and bacon. Everything tasted good and I had no complaints! Definitely left satisfied and happy with my meal and I will be coming back!

So once we came in on a Sunday morning, we got seated outside and ordered build your own omelette But the prices are on the expensive side but overall, it's a nice American style restaurant.

Met up with a group of guys for breakfast after our Saturday morning men's meeting. They told me to meet them at Norman's Grill in Castro Valley. This place is nostalgic ambience taking me back to to the 70's. I asked the guys what they recommended and they told me everything is good. Therefore I went with a classic Denver omelette with hash browns and sourdough toast. It was perfect. Service was great too. They accommodated separate checks which is appreciated.

Admittedly I have an affection for Norman's, so I'll clarify. This is not a fancy place. This is your neighborhood diner. The decor is kitsch. The fare is straight forward. The burger wasn't gorgeous or involving any exotic ingredients. It tasted great and hit the spot. The service was earnest, and the vibe is relaxed and familiar. Your hip cousin from the East Coast, well, they might not be impressed. Great aunt Ethel, she'll love it.

Hilarious decor

We each got the salmon bagel, tea, and a latte, then found a table on their cozy and beautiful back patio. The drinks came out in beautifully painted drink ware. This place was such a nice spot to catch up and chit chat over good food. The servers were super friendly and helpful, and we never once felt rushed to leave or vacate our table. The noise level was just right, too. You would think being on A St would mean we'd hear cars the entire time and would have to talk over other tables, but everyone was respectful of each other and my friend and I could hear one another speaking just fine. Parking is limited; there were maybe 4-5 spots on the side of Sandra's Barberia, but you can park on the street and walk over.

Just an excellent place to be!…read more A friend had heard rave reviews about their authentic Argentinian empanadas and we were so happy to come and try it out on a Saturday afternoon. Parking was busy (the lot is shared with Trader Joe's) but we managed to find a spot and head into the busy but not packed cafe. There is a large assortment of empanadas, from meat options like chorizo and chicken, to vegetarian like corn and onion, to sweet options too like apples. The menu also boasts lots of great drinks including mate tea! Lucky us, the empanadas we ordered weren't in stock so we had to wait ~10 for freshly baked ones. They came out buttery and piping hot, even with little hand-stamped letters on them so you know what you're eating, and it was so delicious. Most are about $5.50 each. Add oregano chimichurri for a bit extra if you want or pair with a tea, but these empanadas really hit the snacky spot. Lots of wooden tables with fresh flowers make Pampas a great space to chat with friends or to sit and do some work. The most standout feature was the friendly and efficient staff who seem to build connections with everybody who walks in the door. Worth a drive to Castro Valley! Especially if you bring cash for a 10% discount off a dozen :)

Service is fast and friendly. Drinks were consistently refilled whether it was coffee, Coke or water. Food was delicious. They were able to make changes to both omelettes. Removing and adding ingredients easily with no hassle. Only issue was the Garlic fries were a disappointment. It's literally minced garlic on top of the fries. Online the menu does describe it but in the restaurant we had no idea. Fries were tasty but not what we expected.

Short version: Food was fine, but the service needs work…read more Long version: They double charged us for a drink. We were settling the tab within the group at the counter and told one cashier we were double charged. Another worker (without telling us) closed the ticket and made us pay for the extra drink while we were trying to resolve it with the other worker. They also came to check on us just once after we got our food then we had to flag them down to check out and get take-out. As far as ambiance, the restaurant is bigger than I expected. Old Western movie posters on the walls, string lights across the room, stained glass lamps. Wooden interiors. It's cozy and comfortable. Good place to go as a group or a breakfast date. Traditional breakfast fare -- omelettes, sandwiches, pancakes, French toast, etc. The corned beef hash was good. Their drink menu is limited, basically coffee and some fruit juices. Lots of parking available because of Lucky's next door. If you want a traditional breakfast experience, go here. If you want a better bang for your buck, more diverse menu options, and better service, I'd go somewhere else.
