if you are a history or military fan, especially of World War Two, this is a museum for you.
located on the grounds of the historic Akershus fortress, this museum is a testament to the endurance of the Norwegian people who suffered under the yoke of Nazi Germany and Norwegian fascist collaborators for five continuous years. the Resistance fought bitterly to make the fascists' little northern vacation as uncomfortable as possible. fittingly there is a large banner which says NEVER AGAIN.
it's a treasure trove of dioramas, videos, audio recordings, documents, and equipment. from insanely rigged secret communication devices made from dentures, to guns hidden inside objects that you'd never expect, to methods of smuggling documents about Nazi troops, to dioramas depicting Resistance sabotage against the German occupiers, this museum has it all.
what I liked was that the exhibits are informative (in both Norwegian and English) but not exhaustively so. the focus is on the presentation of the artifacts. it's a little narrow to navigate in some spots so you may want to go earlier in the day before it gets crowded.
museum is very neat and well-maintained. oh, and an Oslo City Pass will grant you free/discounted admission (I can't recall right now, I want to say it was free with the pass). booyeah! read more
