When I planned for a Potsdam trip months ago I didn't make a reservation at Der Butt thinking it…read morewould be easy to grab a table in the off season. I was wrong there, but we walked across the street to this chic brasserie and I knew we would still have a lovely time. It didn't hurt that we were meeting up with German friends so they were able to find out about a special where schnitzel was served with white asparagus. I had a lovely local white Riesling with my meal, and the baked camembert came with a perfectly hot and crisp crust cracking open to amazing gooey cheese inside that paired so well with a dollop of lingonberries. My boo and I split the schnitzel plate, and they even portioned it for two which I found so thoughtful of the staff. The white asparagus, which is rare and painstakingly cultivated, wasn't something I've ever had back in the States so that was definitely special. Never mind that the weather made visiting Sanssouci Palace something of a bust, this will be my best memory of Potsdam until I manage to visit again in the summer!
