Traveling through Victoria to Alaska I needed a haircut. I saw the salon from Tapa Bar while…read moreeating. It looked very nice and clean so I made an appointment. Always a little nerve wracking getting a cut from a new person but it was need. I was greeted by friendly staff and the stylist, Shalyn was professional, friendly and asked me what I needed. As she cut my hair, she checked in to make sure we were on the right track. She made adjustments, as needed, to ensure I was happy with the outcome. If I lived in the area, I would have no qualms making this salon my regular go-to place. But I am heading onto the road knowing I am pleased with my cut and met some really great folks!

I feel slightly bad for writing this review because I feel that lavish is a very nice salon but…read morethat my hair experience there could have been better. I went there yesterday morning on the hunt for a professional to fix my disastrous highlights that were Orange yellow and Brown. I decided to not damage my hair any more than I had to but to let someone fix it so I could repair it from then on. I was greeted by a really nice receptionist who said there was a stylist availible right then. I met Angela who was very bubbly and pleasant. I discussed how I got into the hair predicament I was in and what I wanted to be done. She seemed to be on the same page of what I wanted, lighter ends darker base. I expressed that I didn't want really dark hair because my boyfriend doesn't find dark hair attractive and I want to be comfortable going from brassy strawberry blonde to a brown colour. She said what I needed was a Victoria Secret look and I was sold. She proceeded to apply a dark brown colour on my roots , but then surprised me when she began to apply it all over my hair. I thought she might leave my already light ends and focal highlights alone instead of dying and then bleaching them again. I felt that this would damage my hair considerably more, but she promised it wouldn't. As she applied the bleach she would pull apart my colour coated strands of hair and I knew then my hair was ripping. After waiting another hour or so , she rinsed me out and began to cut and style. The hair cut went well, she only cut my severely damaged ends and gave me more layers for volume. Then came the part that I felt was completely unnecessary. When styling someone, most hairdressers might consider that if your clients hair is clearly over processed and ripping because of excessive damage that they may have to be very gentle and light handed when brushing. I found Angela to be aggressive in her techniques and she seemed to be rushing because of an appointment she had arriving soon. I felt awkward and uncomfortable as she was yanking my hair so hard that my head was literally being pulled toward her. oddly enough as she was ripping my hair she mentioned that I may need to "baby" my hair which made me think why isn't she taking this into consideration? She dropped her brushes multiple times and even hit me in the head with the blowdryer. Needless to say my hair looked frizzy, dry and off. She tried to make my hair look less damaged by curling it half handedly, but it came out as a slight wave. The apron came off and I felt my hair. it felt almost worse than when I came in , and when I was shown the back of my head I noticed the bad placement of a lone light brown highlight. I paid the 168$ and did not tip as a way of saying I did not enjoy more than half of my experience, and when I got home I made sure to deep condition and promised from then on to always fix my hair disasters at home .

At one point as I was standing in the middle of the salon, I told him no, no, no three times in a row and stared at him. I told him how long I wanted it, with the same cut, just tidying up the ends. My hair was about 1" below my rib cage, layered with lots of natural curl, and of course I have pictures. Every time I go to a new stylist I know I am taking a risk. Margo did not disappoint. She gave me a beautiful cut without taking away the length. It is still down to my waist, just as I requested. Her technique was able to enhance the spiralling of the curls without sacrificing volume. She also patiently told me how I can maintain the look between cuts. I'm glad I took a chance on her, and I will definitely be back anytime I need a trim. While I was quite attached to the stylists who had been cutting my hair in Los Angeles for many years, I am pleased to say that Margo is just as good as some of the top curly hair specialists in Southern California, if not better. I highly recommend her for anyone who has curly hair.
