The walking path is off of a small parking lot set off of busy Rt. 27 (which makes for a scary left hand turn out of it). There are residents all along the side of the reservation, so as you walk down the trail, several signs mark the boundary between the private and public land. The trail map is clear and shows the junction numbers that are clearly marked along the path as well. The first stretch is full of roots, but once you get to the Y intersection, the path evens out and is not as treacherous. However, there are parts of the trails that are less maintained than others. I'm not really a fan of the numerous rules posted - only 4 cars can park (there is definitely room for more than this in the parking lot), you can only walk 2 dogs, you can't cross the railroad tracks to meet up with the other section of the trail. After having walked both sections of the trail, I did less than 2 miles, so it's not a strenuous or long walk. If you want more of a view and more hiking, check out the other half of the trail - parking lot off of Snow st.

Was eating a little too much of Mom's delicious home cookin' on my visit and thought it would be…read morewise to burn some of those tasty calories before they decided to set up camp on my hips and glutes. With the scenic hiking trails, it was easy to whisk those pesky calories away. I ended up hiking and jogging for close to two hours taking in the scenery and shrubbery. I only biffed it twice, which I consider to be excellent odds. Like another poster mentioned, it is largely secluded. I was a little nervous being a lone female hiking out there, but like any other Californian I brought my handy-dandy pepper spray. On a side note, I later learned that pepper-spray is actually illegal in Massachusetts. WHAT?! Oh no, I broke the law! Send me to jail with the rest of the Leominster hoodlums. Leominster State Forest was a beaut and I will be sure to return when I am back in the area. And just maybe, I'll try to smuggle in my nunchucks instead.

There is one park entrance with a few parking spaces on Oak Hill Road, and another entrance on Harvard Road. Upon entering at Oak Hill Road, we followed the red trail up to Lookout Rock where we found a beautiful view overlooking the surrounding areas. Nearby, there was the highest point in all of Littleton. We then followed another trail to Tophet Chasm. The trails were well maintained, the park was not crowded (saw 3 other people there in a total of 2 hours), and the scenery was beautiful. Tucked away in Littleton center, this place is a gem. We printed out a trail map before heading over, which turned out to be necessary since it's pretty easy to lose your way if you change trails. The blue trail was the hardest - which lead us up and down hills on trails with little grooming. The ground was a little wet at times, which in combination with the leaves on the ground made it difficult to balance at times. Overall, this park is great. The red trail is lined with gravel and by far the easiest trail. The yellow trail is the longest, and the other trails weave in between. Even if you're not a hiker or avid exerciser, this park is great for everyone and has trails for all ability levels.

We took the Chasm trail but the trail off it to the chasm itself was closed for repairs. Hit the Summit trail and didn't see an overlook at the top, just an ugly concrete water tower. My now my knee was bothering me as I am not a spring chicken, so we went back down to the parking lot. Looked at the map and saw it was quite a ways beyond the water tower to the lookout. I probably could have made it to the outlook and back if I hadn't gone off on the chasm trail. Maybe this is a better site for younger folks, though they did have reading glasses at the kiosk for older folks like me, which I've never seen anywhere before and which, along with clearly marked trails, got them a second star.

Currently there is ample parking but during the height of the pandemic sometimes the lot would fill up. The landscape is a mix of woodland and a few marshier areas by slower sections of the river. Amazingly there were no mosquitoes though you wouldn't think they would spray for them in a conservation area. Further down the road is a spot where you cam put kayaks and canoes in the water.

An easy, 4.5 mile loop exists at the Cook Conservation Area. The loop combines Farnsworth Trail,…read moreLancaster Trail, & Chapman Trail. Wide, relatively flat, and well cared for trails follow the Nashua River and passes by the remains of the Shoeshank Mill. Wildlife seen include wild turkey, white-tailed deer, tufted titmouse, & American robin. Plenty of shore fishing and two unofficial swimming spots complete with rope swings can easily be found. There are two picnic tables by the river. It would be pretty easy to walk a kayak down to the river edge though there is a kayak put in further up route 70 (towards Lancaster center). NO AMENITIES. Please carry out your trash (especially your bags full of dog poop). Sadly, there are a lot of poop bags and Dunkin' Donuts trash, especially near popular fishing spots as of late.

I truly enjoy this area--it's a beautiful spot for walks, and it's clear that many people feel the…read moresame. Unfortunately, a small percentage of owners choose to keep their dogs off-leash despite the posted leash regulations, which creates an unsafe environment for others. As a responsible dog owner, it's disappointing to see these rules ignored, especially when it leads to incidents. I've been approached aggressively by off-leash dogs twice now (in the last week alone), making it difficult to enjoy the space with my puppy. Most people are considerate, leashing their dogs when near others, but it would be helpful if there were stricter enforcement or penalties for those who disregard the rules to help maintain a safe, welcoming environment for everyone. It is really not a difficult task to leash dogs. And I have asked multiple times for owners to leash while walking by and they absolutely refuse to do so. And I was then attacked and so was my puppy. If you do plan to walk here, I'd recommend being prepared to be attacked by an off leash dog and I would recommend recording the incidents since these dog owners flee the area and blame you for their dogs attacking you. I know numerous responsible dog owners who are unable to walk there due to also being attacked by off leash dogs. I also use to run here as well, but had to stop due to being chased by these dogs. I'd say it is only 10% of the time and by a limited amount of people but it has happened enough to make me nervous.

I love to hike, and the idea of urban hiking really appealed to me. I think Worcester is one of…read morethe only cities where a hike through the center of town leads to a really rewarding pay-off in terms of the view. I have this feeling, though, that I am one of the only people who uses this trail for its intended purpose. It's incredibly hard to find the entrance. I parked on Shrewsbury St. then walked along the forest line until I found the hidden entrance. It was a really steep initial ascent. In fact, I fell on the way down and almost sliced my hand open on a broken beer bottle. As a mental health professional, I am aware of the surprisingly large percentage of city residents who camp in the woods around town, and I saw at least three of their encampments. There was a 5 minute stretch where I walked along Bell Pond, surrounded my loud teenagers, laughing kids and smoking adults. I like the solitude of hiking, but again, this is urban hiking! The trail is not really well marked. There were several times when I stood at one marker and could not see the next. I would walk a bit, then back-track until I found the trail. I finally made it to the quarry and got my view. All in all, I did 2 miles in about an hour. I probably won't do that stretch again, but I'm looking forward to parking somewhere on the other end of the trail and hiking the rest of it.
