Fabulous vibe, cheap drinks (50 pesos for cocktails during happy hour and 15 pesos for beers) that were pretty decent, fun activities, great space (lots of seating), etc. Very very friendly staff. All of the bartenders were lovely as were the people running the activities (mezcal tasting one night and salsa dancing the next). Would definitely stay here when I come back to Oaxaca city.

I really enjoyed rooftop morning yoga and my walking tour which went to the highest point overlooking the city! I stayed in the Deluxe 6 bed and the curtain blocks out most of the light. My locker was spacious and in general- the room was well designed! There was a little patio to sit on outside of the room, showers were usually open, and the room had floor lighting to avoid waking others in the night -- a fan and even AC! The rooftop was designed with outdoor "beds" that you could hang out on and there are a couple long tables which are a great place to meet people. Downstairs, the kitchen is nice and free breakfast each morning was a huge plus! Awesome that they offer cheap connections to buses south (Escondido etc) and you can easily book them up front. Hostel staff is friendly and helpful. The bad: The rooftop was extremely loud most nights, at least in the deluxe room (perhaps because of the patio area with no roof it lets in more sound). I felt like no one in my room really enjoyed how loud the rooftop was even early most nights with blaring music. I found the noise really disorienting as the deluxe rooms are marketed as a "restful" area, and although we wanted fresh air most nights we would close the patio door to block out some of the noise. The rooftop food was pretty passable - wouldn't recommend the burgers.

While waiting for my passport the hotel and staff where very helpful and a great host. I recommend this hotel 1000 times. They also have a restaurant on the top floor. The sauna it's awesome too although you have to pay extra to use it since it's not your typical sauna, it's herbal infused. Will definitely stay here next trip to Oaxaca.

Ask for a top floor room, and you may get a view that lets you look over most of the rooftops of the city and see the mountains in the distance! Architecturally, it's got lots of fascinating terrace levels, including a beautiful terrace with a small kitchen/cafe that serves breakfast in the morning. There's also a roof top with cafe-style seating and the view from there is simply gorgeous. The hotel is somewhat taller than all the neighboring buildings, giving it a terrific panoramic view of the city. Housekeeping seemed to do their job well. Every day, they exchanged towels, cleaned, organized, etc. They made towel art and even made bows and roses out from the toilet paper rolls and tissue boxes. Only complaint was not the service, but the towels, which were somewhat stiff. Blankets are, say, normal quality for a hotel at this price point. Bed was good; none of us woke up with sore backs or weird kinks. No air conditioning, though the place is made of stone, so generally cooler than outside on hot days. Front desk was helpful booking airport taxis, advising on local sights, and was kind and courteous. Wifi was free and reliable if you could get a signal. Our room was near the end of the building, so we had to get out onto the balcony for a clear signal for phones, though laptops were reliable throughout the room. Speed was medium-ish, with occasional drops; that is, it was normal for Mexico. All in all, judging against, say, a Four Seasons, this is 3.5 or 4 starts, but given that the price is absurdly low compared to luxury hotels, I highly recommend this place at 5 stars. Bathrooms: Lovely, mostly stonework, with a window, cute little soaps and shampoos, with a sink in the room, not the bathroom, which is nice for multi-tasking for multiple people in a room.

We shared a bathroom with one other room which was mostly unoccupied while we were there. Nice view from the rooftop terrace. It was very convenient--a short walk to everywhere we needed to go, restaurants in the next block, and a little hot-chocolate shop across the street. Most of the staff does not speak English which allowed me to practice my limited Español! I was able to book a wonderful day tour to Monte Alban, Arrazola, Cuilápan de Guerrero, and San Bartolo Coyotepec. We walked to the zocalo each day--also museums, shops, and the Mercado. There is a convenience store a couple blocks away where we bought bottles of water, and one day we walked to the main bus terminal to catch a city bus to Mitla and Tlacolula de Matamoros (on our walk back stopped at the Plaza de Nieves for ice cream). Note: This is a hostel--if you are not accustomed to hostels, you might want to stay in a hotel. We love hostels as we get to meet people from all over the world, plus it's way cheaper. There was almost no one else staying there while we were there, though, so it was almost our private place! the manager, who does speak English, was very nice, and had visited our state, so we had a nice conversation with him.

Each room comes with its own IMMACULATE bathroom and each bed has its own outlet and light. Staff is wonderful and local (it's nice when a hostel hires from the local economy). Breakfast is delicious (eggs, fruit, toast). Cute patio and roof garden full of plants, and our dorm had its own cozy terrace! Maybe the only 2 things I'd improve is the spotty wifi (esp in the rooms) and windows that let mosquitoes in (no screens or filters when it's too hot to sleep w them closed), but this is easy to forgive when everything else is so cute and pleasant throughout the hostel, and you can tell that the owner really poured her soul into making this place so lovely, so the hostel definitely deserves 5 stars!
