Nixtaco continues to impress! They started us off with a complimentary salsa flight, arranged from mild to spiciest, along with a bowl of chips. Last time I visited, I tried several tacos and loved them all, especially with their house-made corn tortillas. The chicharron taco was definitely the standout for me. This visit, I had to try the chicharron burrito, which comes with cheese and refried beans wrapped in a flour tortilla. It was absolutely amazing! Definitely my favorite bite so far. The staff was also very friendly and attentive. Multiple people greeted us, and both the drinks and food came out quickly. I think I found my go-to order every time I visit. It's definitely on the pricier side, but for me, it's worth every bite. Can't wait to come back!
YESSS! I think every time we are in Roseville, this is a MUST! Shout out to our friend Logan who works here and cooks some of the BEST tacos in NorCal! YES EVEN BETTER THAN THE BAY AREA! From the Roadkill Taco, Pork Belly, Octopus. So. frickin. good!!! One thing to really savor is the salsa sampler too! Cheers!
Price: a bit pricey. Tacos from $6.50-8.50 per taco. More unique flavors. Good service for the most part.Server did not tell us which taco was what which wasn't helpful. Also no napkins until we made a mess. Ambiance indoors was super dark w stringed lights. Eyes had to get used to the dark lol We got: Mushroom taco- $6.5. Pretty bland. Chk mole- yum Octopus- spicy! Al pastor- liked it! Interesting having pineapples Birria- too oily. Did not like the sauce that came w it- was bitter Pork belly- ok. A bit too much fat but that's to be expected lol. Forgot what else we got. Overall good. Wouldn't get birria, octopus or mushrooms again. Been here 3x. Super close to us. Initially didn't like it after their Michelin plate (terrible service) but gave 2nd try and was better. Love their chipotle peanut butter salsa + mild green + mild red. Their spicy one was too spicy for me
Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Food: 4/5 Drinks: 4/5 Price: 3/5 Parking: 4/5 We came by on a Monday evening. Lily was our server, and she was wonderful! All of the staff were checking on and taking care of us. Food and drinks were delicious, though I do think the food was slightly on the pricey side for this area in town (and what you get). The complimentary salsas are all fantastic though!
A return visit to this highly-acclaimed taco spot just outside Sacramento. Their salsas are to die for, and the tacos are pretty good (if a bit overpriced). Some of the proteins don't quite work for me (I thought the octopus had too much sauce on it) but I'd go back just for the peanut salsa (that you can buy to go).
update: wanted to add that they have a chile en nogado special in september! it was really good. it's a stuffed pepper with beef and pine nuts inside, a walnut cream sauce, and sprinkled with pomegranate. highly recommend if you're looking for a unique dish!
The first time I went here it was a full 5 STARS, no complaints. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and everything was up to par. However, the second time my partner and I came to Nixtaco we wanted a booth and when I gave my name to the host "Mo", she was giggling on her and and showing her co host something. She said the wait would be around 45 minutes or so. After an hour of waiting (Since I had a timer on my phone), we decided to check back in. It seems like the worker never even put my name down officially for our table. So my partner and I decided to eat at the bar instead. At the bar, it was so uncomfortable, even though we are almost at the age of 30 the bartenders weren't the nicest. It felt as though they were upset since we were sitting at the bar and not ordering alcoholic beverages. We end up ordering our food, but while we are eating, the girl bartender ends up dropping something, it breaks, then the boy bartender does the same with a different piece of glass. After this second experience, it didn't really want me to come back even though the food was quite delicious.
Have been wanting to go here for a while now. It did not disappoint!! Their guacamole was super fresh and tasty!! Loved that they serve their water in a bottle with a glass water cup. No plastic! Their pork belly taco melted in your mouth!!! Why only 4 stars? To be totally transparent, the restaurant (especially the bathroom) could have been cleaner. And the inside of the restaurant was abnormally dark. Other than that I loved the food!
Been here a couple times but haven't been in years. Went for HH. They have $3 off their tacos, half off Guac and a few drink specials. Tried the Guac to start and their salsas. Really enjoyed the smoky peanut salsa the best! Got a variety of tacos including shrimp, chicharon, braised chicken mole and short rib. Didn't like the combo of shrimp and cheese much. Really enjoyed the short rib though! The chicken mole was a more chocolate flavor. The chicharron was a little fatty for my taste. The Love the homemade tortillas! The churros seemed a little crispy and overcooked. Service was good and quick. Modern food and atmosphere.
We haven't been back here since pre-COVID and pre-Michelin bib gourmand status, so I was excited to eat here! We came around 12:30 on a Saturday and I was shocked to see tables still open, only to find a huge rush of people coming right after us. Lucky timing on our part!! We got a nice corner table outside. The inside is fine but it seemed so dark and loud, even for the middle of the day, so I am glad we got the last table outdoors. However I think it caused us to be a bit forgotten towards the end of our meal - almost an entire hour went by between receiving our meal to receiving our dessert, just because no one came by to check on us so we could place our dessert order, and just the dessert took quite a while to come out. The visit started with great service though, the girl was super helpful when we asked about a plain chicken quesadilla for our kids. She explained we could order one with the fried chicken inside and no sauce and that would be the least spicy option for them. It came out and it was huge! Such a good size portion. We really enjoyed the queso fundido. Highly recommend adding in meat - we picked carne asada. It comes with corn tortillas, so this is another good option if you're with someone who wants something more simple. The menu seems more slimmed down than before - no elote in sight this time! The octopus taco was my favorite hands down. The pork al pastor had a generous amount of meat, but not nearly enough salsa to balance it out. The pork belly taco was another solid choice, loved the refried beans on that one. The fried chicken taco was okay, but pretty dry, so I'd skip on that. The corn tortillas seemed a lot thicker and drier than I remember. Next time I'd upgrade to flour! I really loved the flight of salsas and chips they bring out when you sit down - each salsa was absolutely the highlight of the meal! Overall solid meal but the lack of service towards the end was a bit frustrating. Would come back again for that outdoor seating again on a less busy day!
the setup of this restaurant is so cute upon entering & the hostess sat us immediately. She brought us waters, chips & salsa. The salsas go from mild to spiciest, & the most spicy one was definitely my favorite. Their menu had a vast amount of different options to choose from & I chose the spicy shrimp tacos. I will say, I'm glad I only got 2 because they were pretty big & filling! I enjoyed my overall experience here & will be back to try more
Where and my husband hadn't been out for a date night in a while and this place was on our list so we decided to go last night. We pulled up to the parking lot and it was quite a busy parking lot, but we found a space easily. In the car, I asked him what time the reservation was for and he said he forgot to make one ha ha. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to get a table for a while because it seemed quite busy, but they were able to see us right away! Our server was extremely helpful and friendly. She had a lovely smile and kept it on the whole time even though I could tell she was busy. For the appetizer, my husband chose the queso fondito. The cheese pulled was incredible! It came with delicious tortillas. For the main course, we decided to have tacos so we each chose three different tacos to try. I had the octopus taco fried chicken taco and short rib taco. The octopus was tender and delicious. The fried chicken taco was my favorite with very juicy meat. The short rib taco was very juicy. My husband had the Carne Asada taco the fried chicken taco. For drinks, I had the hazy IPA chef's margarita and the dessert drink, which had espresso in it. The hazy IPA was great, and I really enjoyed the espresso dessert drink. It was a bit lighter than a espresso martini. But I was put off a bit by the margarita. The ingredients on the menu did not state that it had Mezcal, but it did taste like Mezcal so I asked the server and she said yes it did have Mezcal in it. I do not personally enjoy Mezcal so I would've liked to have known that before ordering the drink. For dessert, we decided to share the churros. I feel like they were the weakest point of the meal. I found them to be undercooked in the middle and the plating was very un appetizing. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience. I found the best part to be the service and tacos.
If I lived in town I would be here an unhealthy amount. Some of the best tacos I've ever had, they literally just melt in your mouth. You can tell the quality is top notch. Would highly recommend the pork belly & octopus. They chips and salsa are complimentary and comes with 4 different salsa flavors. The green and habanero were my favorites. Great service and cold AC inside.
This is such a nondescript location for such an amazing Mexican restaurant! My aunt brought my brother and I here for lunch, she had never been but it was recommended to her. Someone mentioned the chef is Michelin rated, which you wouldn't expect for a Mexican restaurant in a strip mall. After eating here I get it, everything was delicious and the service was great! They start you with complimentary chips and a set of 4 salsa's that are all delicious. We ordered Guac to start and we each ordered 3 different tacos. They were all delicious as well, I ordered the Quesabirra, the Carne Asada, and the Pork Belly. They were all good but my favorite was the carne asada, mainly because I like a simple taco and that hit the spot. The margarita's were good as well and our server was attentive throughout the entire meal. We capped off the meal with some churrros for dessert. They were a little crispy but still good. I like the ambiance of Nixtaco as well, it's dark and hip inside, and it doesn't feel like you are in a shopping mall while you are there. They also have a patio for outdoor dining. I will also mention that we dined here during happy hour and they have some great specials like discounted tacos, Guac, and Margaritas. I would return on a future visit, it exceeded expectations! read more

Pretty delicious food. We got 6 different tacos and the queso dip. The queso was good, but was really just melted Oaxaca cheese without seasoning. It solidified quickly and became very rubbery. The house margaritas are the way to go, don't upgrade. Tacos were good. Pork belly is obviously good, but the winners were the pollo verde and the octopus which surprised us. The rest were just average. Service was good, and salsa sampler was nice. Though 3 of the 4 salsas had NO spice. read more

I'm a regular customer at Nix Roseville. Today I ordered two burritos and some potatoes to go. $58.....fine. Got home and discovered my burrito looked like a taquito. Seriously child sized bean burrito from Taco Bell. Very inconsistent portions. read more

Where shall I begin ... this isn't my first time here but I definitely haven't frequented as much as I probably should... on a whim I stopped on my way home from work one night... might I add this restaurant is in my neighborhood so I really should come more often. I tried something new tonight and so glad I did... their pork belly taco is off the chart no wonder it had won an award ... it was a tender slab of meat not fatty like you would expect from pork belly... the seasoning plus the thin layer of refried beans and melted cheese it's nestled in was just the right about of savory mild heat and warm cheesy delicious taco... I'll definitely be ordering that again!!! And then my second choice was an old favorite. Although, I m not a vegetarian; their cauliflower taco is top notch and would turn any carnivore towards a vegetarian. The cauliflower is marinated in a delicious seasoning and the cauliflower is cooked just to the right tenderness to make feel like you're eating meat!!! Both are a must try!!! Might I add I had a Mango margarita and it was well worth the price you get your monies worth in one drink I had a nice heat flush to my face and let me just say it went down smooth. I'm not a big drinker so I prefer to let's say "feel it but not taste the alcoho'"... This did the trick !! If you haven't been make sure you put it on your list to stop by! Nixtaco has been on my "to go" list for so long and we finally got the chance to go and try this Michelin guide restaurant. We walked in for 2 and got seated at a table right before the lunch rush. A bunch of people came after with reservations, but if u only have 1-2 ppl, the bar is also available for walk-ins. They give a sampler of the 4 salsas and chips for free when u get seated and they were all very different from one another (and the chips are refilled). For 2, we ordered the pork belly, combination, roadkill, and octopus taco with a short rib burrito. Given the hype around the restaurant, I think we came in excited and with high expectations but everything unfortunately fell short. Pork belly - the best taco out of the 4. The honey glaze came through nicely to complement the fattiness. The refried beans and scallions were a great pairing as well and definitely were needed to complete the taco! Combination - salty. The chicharron was soggy already due to the amount of aioli on top. The tortilla was soggy too and the aioli spilled over. There were only 2 shrimps and both were overly salted so when we took a bite with everything combined, it was just way too salty. I drank a glass of water to just finish this taco. Roadkill - the flavor from being sautéed with chile tomato and onion is great but between the Roadkill vs the pork belly taco, we would prefer to have a second pork belly. Octopus - also salty. cook on the grilled octopus is tender and not chewy at all! The sauce was good but everything was once again too salty to eat. Had to drink another cup of water to finish. Short rib burrito - we would recommend paying the extra 2$ for rice. The meat was tender and flavorful from the braise, it came together well with the rice and avocado. Overall, everything had unique flavors that we haven't tasted elsewhere. The tortillas and the tenderness of the meats are for sure the star standouts. However, $8 for a taco is pricey, some meats warrant higher prices, but the house tacos should be cheaper. For us to return, they need a lighter hand on the salt. read more

Adding two stars for the service and professionalism of the staff. The burrito itself was unacceptable. I've never had to return a burrito in my life, but this was just soggy greasy sloppy falling apart. While I appreciate their offer to remake it, I am on a tight schedule which means that this was a complete waste of time as well and now it's after 2:00 and I still haven't had lunch. Extremely frustrating. read more

Service was good, the restaurant was clean, they're quick, and provides great service. I got the carne asada, shredded beef , and birria taco. They were all good but not like out of this world good. I would have no problem coming back here. Their salsas are delicious, I love the chipotle one. They have a great pineapple Fresca. I love that they also make their own corn tortillas. read more
You might have come across this restaurant on Instagram like many of us have. We decided to go and see what all the rave was about, and ordered the short rib, al pastor, spicy shrimp and birria tacos. On the side, added the rice and beans. These tacos are larger than your typical street taco. They come generously filled (lots of meat and ingredients) with each taco. The meat was tender and marinated nicely. We really enjoyed the beans! The rice was flavorful too. The place very busy on a Sunday. A taco ranges from $5 on happy hour but normally around $7 to 9 dollars. It's a bit pricey for a taco but their tacos are unique and delicious. read more

Nixtaco is a modern spin on tacos with quality ingredients and bold flavors. Every time I'm in the area, I make sure to stop by. Their handmade corn tortillas are fluffy and thick enough to hold all the toppings, but pliable and light. Octopus 5/5* The best out of all the tacos we tried over the years. The octopus was super tender and perfectly paired with the peanut chipotle sauce. They don't skimp on the octopus and you get nice meaty chunks as well as the charred tentacles. The serrano infused butter added richness, but also has some serious kick to it! This taco was just perfection in both textures and flavors. Pork Belly 5/5* Wow! That glazed pork belly slab is good enough to be its own dish. It was fork tender, juicy, with an even ratio of meat to fat. The refried beans tasted slightly sweet from the glaze, almost like a mole sauce. The flavors were so well balanced.. sweet and savory. Nixtaco Combination 4/5* The taco was loaded with a mound of plump shrimp and chicharrón. The sprouts added a nice refreshing taste to all that savoriness. Although tasty, it's really messy and saucy. I also thought the sesame seed oil was too much and made the taco really greasy. Pollo en Mole 3/5* Just what the name says. Compared to the others, it needed something extra, veggies or something to balance out the rich mole sauce and soft chicken texture. Spicy Shrimp 2/5* Wasn't very spicy and too plain. 4 shrimps with grilled cheese was underwhelming. You could barely taste the caramelized onion. Although pricey, the octopus and pork belly tacos are worth every penny. They combination of textures and flavors are on point and will leave you satisfied. Not to mention the complimentary chips with four different type of salsas. Every salsa was delicious in its own, my favorite being the chunky salsa verde. read more
Stopped in for a much needed Taco craving, came on Sunday after 6:30 and was able to get 2 seats at the bar but reservations were around 1/2 hour. Amazing variety of salsas to try with their fresh chips! Got several tacos and enjoyed it with great company and of course some drinks to wash down with. Nixtaco is easily one of the most unique and flavorful taco spots I've been to. The quality, creativity, and attention to detail in every dish really sets this place apart. We tried a variety of items, but the octopus taco was the absolute standout, tender, perfectly seasoned, and paired with flavors that worked so well together. It's one of those tacos you keep thinking about after you leave. The shrimp taco was also delicious, and the tortillas were fresh and full of flavor. The chips and house-made salsas were great starters, and the guacamole was super fresh. And the churro for dessert? SO good, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and paired perfectly with the sauce. The vibe inside is casual but stylish, the staff is friendly, and the service is quick even when they're busy. It's the kind of place where you want to try everything on the menu. If you're in the area and love bold, creative Mexican flavors, Nixtaco is a must, especially for that octopus taco read more

I saw Nixtaco on Triple D the other day and was surprised to learn it was on the way to another place i frequent so i stopped in. They have shaded patio dining which is nice and service was prompt. Chips and salsa were complimentary with 4 sauces to choose from and that was a step up from most mexican restaurants. I ordered three street tacos; shrimp, short rib and carnitas. All were fabulous. The carnitas was smoked and you can see the smoker on the patio. All served on blue corn tortillas. The protein was not skimpy even though they were street tacos. My only gripe was the cost. My three tacos and a coke was $30 plus tip. For lunch that is a bit steep. Tacos were 8 bucks each and since they are street taco size three is not an over abundance for a normal lunch. Also they have side orders of rice and beans but they too were oddly expensive. $7.50 for rice or beans. If you want both its $15. That's a little crazy. Normally places offer a platter option that comes with rice and beans but i did not see that on the menu. And i didn't see anyone eating them either so most people seem to skip that expensive side dish. Net net the food was great but the value is lacking. $8 each street tacos and a $5 coke you can't refill and it was just too expensive to make it a go-to spot for me. This was our first visit to Nixtaco but we had heard good things so decided to check it out for lunch on the weekend. We got there a little after they opened. We wanted to sit inside since it was pretty hot outside. They do offer patio seating. It is not a large place inside but there is also a small bar area. We were seated right away and given menus. As we were looking at the menu one of the staff brought a small stool to put my larger purse so I didn't need to put it on the floor. (Meant a lot since we were at a small table for two.) Our waitress Christina took our drink order (a Pliny the Elder and the Cynthia's G&T. (BTW they also make some distilled spirits.) They have a wonderful selection of tacos/burritos to choose from with blue corn tortillas. There are all the usual meats but also vegetarian options. We got the Shrimp Mazatlan Style, Chicharron and Cauliflower. We also ordered a side of refried beans which were spicy black beans. While waiting for our food they start you off with a sampler of salsas which went from mild to spicy. The Salsa Verde, Peanut Chipotle (our favorite), Salsa Roja and Habanero salsa. Great flavors. All of the food was delicious but totally surprised that my favorite (at this time) was the Cauliflower. The refried beans had just enough spice too. I ordered another drink which was the Oaxacan Old Fashioned. My new favorite drink. Staff were friendly and efficient. Will definitely be back to try other options and try other cocktails. read more

Really cool modern Mexican restaurant which focuses on classic and unique tacos. Loved the complimentary chips and salsa at the beginning, which comes with 4 salsas from mild to very spicy (the creamy yellow one and the spiciest were our favorites) They have a large selection of different legit tacos in blue corn tortillas. My favorite was the Roadkill (chopped pork belly). All of the tacos were generously filled and quite rich. A surprising hit was the Red Rice, which is a must get. Favorite drink was the Oaxaca Old Fashioned, while the Chef's Margarita was just okay. Very fast and friendly service too, and appreciated them letting us finish a bit after closing. read more

Enhanced tacos! Complimentary chips with a fun assortment of salsas! Great place for a casual dinner when you're craving Mexican with a culinary twist. Every single taco we got was amazing. Genuinely can't go wrong with any of them. We also got the churros which was a bit too sweet for my liking, but was nevertheless very good. I would probably just ask for the drizzle on the side next time. The server we had was so friendly and attentive, especially given we were seated outside. read more

Nixtaco is a lovely, odd little hole-in-the-wall where the surprising flavors perfectly parallel the unexpectedness of the location. My favorite quality of theirs is the ability to let the proteins be the champion of the dishes, nothing is overwhelmed or smothered by excessive seasonings. The cocktails are vibrant and unique. The flan is unlike anything I've ever had. read more

Does the AC work?
The Folsom location is newer and nicer. I think the A/C struggles when it's really hot at the Roseville loc
Does they have another phone number? I keep trying to call their phone number and it sends me to a voicemail that is full.
A friend told me they had a taco sampler platter here a few years back but I don't see it on the menu. Is this still a thing? If it is, anyone know what you get, price, etc? Thanks
I've been there several times and not seen a sampler. But, try a few different tacos every time you go and you'll find your favorites!
Can we bring our dog & eat outside?
Dogs are allowed outside but not inside the dining room.
