Really enjoyed the smoky peanut salsa the best! Got a variety of tacos including shrimp, chicharon, braised chicken mole and short rib. Didn't like the combo of shrimp and cheese much. Adding two stars for the service and professionalism of the staff. The burrito itself was unacceptable. I've never had to return a burrito in my life, but this was just soggy greasy sloppy falling apart. While I appreciate their offer to remake it, I am on a tight schedule which means that this was a complete waste of time as well and now it's after 2:00 and I still haven't had lunch. The first time I went here it was a full 5 STARS, no complaints. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and everything was up to par. However, the second time my partner and I came to Nixtaco we wanted a booth and when I gave my name to the host "Mo", she was giggling on her and and showing her co host something. She said the wait would be around 45 minutes or so. After an hour of waiting (Since I had a timer on my phone), we decided to check back in. It seems like the worker never even put my name down officially for our table. So my partner and I decided to eat at the bar instead. At the bar, it was so uncomfortable, even though we are almost at the age of 30 the bartenders weren't the nicest. It felt as though they were upset since we were sitting at the bar and not ordering alcoholic beverages. We end up ordering our food, but while we are eating, the girl bartender ends up dropping something, it breaks, then the boy bartender does the same with a different piece of glass. We haven't been back here since pre-COVID and pre-Michelin bib gourmand status, so I was excited to eat here! We came around 12:30 on a Saturday and I was shocked to see tables still open, only to find a huge rush of people coming right after us. Lucky timing on our part!! We got a nice corner table outside. The inside is fine but it seemed so dark and loud, even for the middle of the day, so I am glad we got the last table outdoors. However I think it caused us to be a bit forgotten towards the end of our meal - almost an entire hour went by between receiving our meal to receiving our dessert, just because no one came by to check on us so we could place our dessert order, and just the dessert took quite a while to come out. The visit started with great service though, the girl was super helpful when we asked about a plain chicken quesadilla for our kids. She explained we could order one with the fried chicken inside and no sauce and that would be the least spicy option for them. It came out and it was huge! Such a good size portion. We really enjoyed the queso fundido. Highly recommend adding in meat - we picked carne asada. It comes with corn tortillas, so this is another good option if you're with someone who wants something more simple. The menu seems more slimmed down than before - no elote in sight this time! The octopus taco was my favorite hands down. The pork al pastor had a generous amount of meat, but not nearly enough salsa to balance it out. The pork belly taco was another solid choice, loved the refried beans on that one. The fried chicken taco was okay, but pretty dry, so I'd skip on that. The corn tortillas seemed a lot thicker and drier than I remember. Next time I'd upgrade to flour! I really loved the flight of salsas and chips they bring out when you sit down - each salsa was absolutely the highlight of the meal! Pretty delicious food. We got 6 different tacos and the queso dip. The queso was good, but was really just melted Oaxaca cheese without seasoning. It solidified quickly and became very rubbery. The house margaritas are the way to go, don't upgrade. Tacos were good. Pork belly is obviously good, but the winners were the pollo verde and the octopus which surprised us. We decided to go and see what all the rave was about, and ordered the short rib, al pastor, spicy shrimp and birria tacos. On the side, added the rice and beans. These tacos are larger than your typical street taco. They come generously filled (lots of meat and ingredients) with each taco. The meat was tender and marinated nicely. We really enjoyed the beans! The rice was flavorful too. The place very busy on a Sunday. A taco ranges from $5 on happy hour but normally around $7 to 9 dollars. Nixtaco has been on my "to go" list for so long and we finally got the chance to go and try this Michelin guide restaurant. We walked in for 2 and got seated at a table right before the lunch rush. A bunch of people came after with reservations, but if u only have 1-2 ppl, the bar is also available for walk-ins. They give a sampler of the 4 salsas and chips for free when u get seated and they were all very different from one another (and the chips are refilled). For 2, we ordered the pork belly, combination, roadkill, and octopus taco with a short rib burrito. Given the hype around the restaurant, I think we came in excited and with high expectations but everything unfortunately fell short. Pork belly - the best taco out of the 4. The honey glaze came through nicely to complement the fattiness. The refried beans and scallions were a great pairing as well and definitely were needed to complete the taco! Combination - salty. The chicharron was soggy already due to the amount of aioli on top. The tortilla was soggy too and the aioli spilled over. There were only 2 shrimps and both were overly salted so when we took a bite with everything combined, it was just way too salty. I drank a glass of water to just finish this taco. Roadkill - the flavor from being sautéed with chile tomato and onion is great but between the Roadkill vs the pork belly taco, we would prefer to have a second pork belly. Octopus - also salty. cook on the grilled octopus is tender and not chewy at all! The sauce was good but everything was once again too salty to eat. Had to drink another cup of water to finish. Short rib burrito - we would recommend paying the extra 2$ for rice. The meat was tender and flavorful from the braise, it came together well with the rice and avocado. Overall, everything had unique flavors that we haven't tasted elsewhere. The tortillas and the tenderness of the meats are for sure the star standouts. However, $8 for a taco is pricey, some meats warrant higher prices, but the house tacos should be cheaper. For us to return, they need a lighter hand on the salt. read more

I saw Nixtaco on Triple D the other day and was surprised to learn it was on the way to another place i frequent so i stopped in. They have shaded patio dining which is nice and service was prompt. Chips and salsa were complimentary with 4 sauces to choose from and that was a step up from most mexican restaurants. I ordered three street tacos; shrimp, short rib and carnitas. All were fabulous. The carnitas was smoked and you can see the smoker on the patio. All served on blue corn tortillas. The protein was not skimpy even though they were street tacos. My only gripe was the cost. My three tacos and a coke was $30 plus tip. For lunch that is a bit steep. Tacos were 8 bucks each and since they are street taco size three is not an over abundance for a normal lunch. Also they have side orders of rice and beans but they too were oddly expensive. $7.50 for rice or beans. If you want both its $15. That's a little crazy. Normally places offer a platter option that comes with rice and beans but i did not see that on the menu. And i didn't see anyone eating them either so most people seem to skip that expensive side dish. Net net the food was great but the value is lacking. $8 each street tacos and a $5 coke you can't refill and it was just too expensive to make it a go-to spot for me. Start with lukewarm chunky little tough meat, felt like it was left over from the night before and never hit the grill. Again the barely heated, thick, dry tortilla took a lot of water to masticate and get down Grade: F, my goodness it is carne asada that any corner taco truck would blow away. Octopus: Last one to eat and still hot, this was the only one of the three that tasted fresh. Excellent taco: tender meat, great sauce and the tortilla was good tasting like it was grilled to the right temperature. Their handmade corn tortillas are fluffy and thick enough to hold all the toppings, but pliable and light. Octopus 5/5* The best out of all the tacos we tried over the years. The octopus was super tender and perfectly paired with the peanut chipotle sauce. They don't skimp on the octopus and you get nice meaty chunks as well as the charred tentacles. The serrano infused butter added richness, but also has some serious kick to it! This taco was just perfection in both textures and flavors. Pork Belly 5/5* Wow! That glazed pork belly slab is good enough to be its own dish. It was fork tender, juicy, with an even ratio of meat to fat. The refried beans tasted slightly sweet from the glaze, almost like a mole sauce. The flavors were so well balanced.. sweet and savory. Nixtaco Combination 4/5* The taco was loaded with a mound of plump shrimp and chicharrón. The sprouts added a nice refreshing taste to all that savoriness. Although tasty, it's really messy and saucy. I also thought the sesame seed oil was too much and made the taco really greasy. Pollo en Mole 3/5* Just what the name says. Compared to the others, it needed something extra, veggies or something to balance out the rich mole sauce and soft chicken texture. This was my first time attending this highly spoken and rated establishment. They had so many options for both vegetarian and meat eaters alike. The service was lovely. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. The vibe inside reminds me of eating at a cute mom and pop in Mex. I love the modern and authentic feel they bring. I ordered a Quesabirria Taco along with a Taco de chicharrón. My Taco de Chicharrón that brought me back to sitting in my Abuelas kitchen it was savory and tangy with a little kick. My Quessabirria was good, however I did feel the consume acted more like a salsa or mole feel vs it being a broth. That's the only thing I wasn't too thrilled about. Many folks love it, and I am happy for them. I much prefer Niko's Tacos just down the street in terms of the taste of the tacos. Service is average to distracted, depending upon how busy they are. There is a certain energy about the place at times that is fun. I've had a lot of "business lunches" here, but it isn't a place I would pick over anywhere else. I don't know how often they offer pozole, but I would recommend taking to heart the warning that they char the hominy. It dominates the dish. I went on June 17, 2026. It was in the 90's that day and inside the restaurant was HOT. They still had customers and an hour wait at 6 pm. We got food to go, but the wait for the food was so hot. We tried five different tacos. Each tacos were about $8 to $9. Each or more. They all had good flavors, but we were definitely not left with a great impression because of heat. Later that day I saw on a Facebook group someone had discussed the heat at this restaurant. The people who were loyal to the restaurant were very defensive, but the ones who were objective no to the issue. I found out that the AC was broken and has been broken for about 6 months. There was also mentions of a customer who passed out from the heat. While we were there there was a baby crying non-stop and mom had to walk the baby outside of the restaurant. I was sweating quite a bit. But it wasn't sure if it was all of them, but the tacos had the corn tortilla and a cheese crisp the size of a tortilla with the meat on top. Top. The flavor was fine and it's different from others around the area, but I wouldn't drive out of my way for this. If we are in the area and felt like it, we might stop by again. I'm not sure if it's because the heat, but as of now we didn't feel like it lived up to the hype that we've seen and heard about. We also got a couple of glass Coke bottles to go, they were cool but not ice cold which it might have been because of the heat, but it doesn't help with the experience. As someone mentioned in a comment of that post, it's overpriced tacos, my husband thought it was fair. I usually take pictures but after finding some water to eat outside of the restaurant, we completely forgot. Hopefully they get the AC fixed pretty soon. This was our first visit to Nixtaco but we had heard good things so decided to check it out for lunch on the weekend. We got there a little after they opened. We wanted to sit inside since it was pretty hot outside. They do offer patio seating. It is not a large place inside but there is also a small bar area. We were seated right away and given menus. As we were looking at the menu one of the staff brought a small stool to put my larger purse so I didn't need to put it on the floor. (Meant a lot since we were at a small table for two.) Our waitress Christina took our drink order (a Pliny the Elder and the Cynthia's G&T. (BTW they also make some distilled spirits.) They have a wonderful selection of tacos/burritos to choose from with blue corn tortillas. There are all the usual meats but also vegetarian options. We got the Shrimp Mazatlan Style, Chicharron and Cauliflower. We also ordered a side of refried beans which were spicy black beans. While waiting for our food they start you off with a sampler of salsas which went from mild to spicy. The Salsa Verde, Peanut Chipotle (our favorite), Salsa Roja and Habanero salsa. Great flavors. All of the food was delicious but totally surprised that my favorite (at this time) was the Cauliflower. The refried beans had just enough spice too. these are not your typical street tacos they're an elevated version of a dish in taco form. nix was a small little place and we arrived sunday around lunchtime. thankfully we were seated right away and served with chips and all of their salsa. my favorite was the octopus and pork belly!! the pork belly was sweet with the taco and the corn tortilla had a great chew on it. the combination is a chicharron taco cooked in chile verde sauce with shrimp. it reminded me a lot of the pork dish chile verde and how creative to put it in a taco!!!! it's a cute little elevated date spot i didn't get to try any drinks unfortunately but they looked delish! my only complaint is that these tacos were so greasy. they were delicious but i was not expecting them so greasy. read more

My favorite was the Roadkill (chopped pork belly). All of the tacos were generously filled and quite rich. A surprising hit was the Red Rice, which is a must get. So good we classified it as a "treat" -not even something you get every time, in order to keep it special. Crispy is the way to go with this. - Pork Belly. Great texture and flavor make for an epic situation. I like how it sat in a little bed of refried beans and the touch of sweetness on the pork from a honey glaze? Chef's kiss. It IS pork belly tho so keep in mind that it's that decadently fat, no one on a diet comes here right? - Short Rib. Pretty epic. Well seasoned, moist, and flavorful. This ties for the number 2 spot. - Chicken in the green salsa. Very straightforward, also seasoned and moist. Gotta like green salsa (and I do). Pork belly is my all-time go-to taco. There are three different types of them, with a simple house taco and two signature ones. All are equally good! Octopus taco is unique in its own way. It has the strong seafood-y flavor but doesn't miss the aroma of corn tortilla. Chicken mole tacos are on the sweeter side. I would strongly recommend Nixtaco to start considering adding mole as an appetizer as well! Fried chicken taco was interesting. The chicken was fried very crispy and all flavors including the "extremely hot" sauce was blended together well. Corn, pork, beef were all amazing as well. We've had a gift card for some time but never thought to use it - I've heard such great things about this place and they weren't wrong!! We got there around 5:30 and they have Happy hour until 6 so we got a few things for cheaper like the Guac and some tacos - everything was so fresh filling and just delish - we kept ordering more and more as it was all so good! We started with the chips and salsa - all were so good - then guac I loved it as it was fresh and cold! I started with beef tacos & my new fav quesobirria - it was the best!! A few things come to mind when to justify a five-star rating at a restaurant. This includes ambiance, taste/quality/texture of the food, service, prices, and overall experience. Considering this place has been around since 2015 (many of which are stellar reviews) as well as being listed as a Michelin Guide restaurant, this small business has a lot going for it. Therefore, I wanted to fill you all in with my most recent experience dining at "Nixtaco" I came here with my lovely lady during the afternoon of Sunday 6/1/2025 around 2:00pm. Since the weather was cooperative (after a couple hot days prior to this), we decided to dine at their outdoor patio. Hours of operation are standard as they are open for business Sun-Thu 11am-9pm and Fri-Sat 11am-10pm. They do take reservations (which are encouraged during the busier times) but not required. They are located in a small quiet strip mall at the corner of Cirby Way and Rocky Ridge Dr. and only a 1/2 mile from Maidu Regional Park in Roseville. They also opened up a second location in Folsom which debuted in May 2025. Once seated, we were given a carafe of iced water and two glasses as well as food/beverage menus. As many people know, their menu is quite eclectic and way different than what you'd find at a traditional Mexican restaurant. This place offers some very different tacos including octopus, mushroom, cauliflower, and many more as well as the traditional chicken, steak, pork, etc. They also carry a sizable amount of burritos, quesadillas, desserts, and a ton of beer and mixed cocktail options. I do have to say that the exterior layout is quite spacious and even after glancing at the inside of the restaurant, this place offers a ton of attention to detail with every square inch. As I was narrowing down my options, I finally settled with two of their more popular tacos. The first was their "Nixtaco Combination Taco". This taco offers Mazatlán-styled shrimp, Rajas con Queso, Chicharrón, and cilantro w/toasted sesame seed/chile oil, peanut chipotle aioli, and melted Oaxaca cheese. The second taco I ordered was their "Chicharron" which consisted of thin sliced and roasted pork belly that is diced and sauteed in salsa verde complete with lime-pickled onions on top. We received a complimentary side of tortilla chips and 4 types of salsa ranging from mild to spiciest. I complete my meal with one of their House Margaritas. My drink is brought out to me in just a few minutes while my tacos arrived just a couple minutes later. The presentation alone really showcases how much work went into making these. After the first bite of the combo taco, my taste buds explored so many rich, unique flavors as you do get a ton of meat in every savory bite. The Chicharron taco also has a perfectly seasoned and roasted taste to it as I do not regret ordering this. I will say that both of these paired with the chips, salsa, and margarita truly made every bite (and sip of my drink) an extremely special one. All in all, "Nixtaco" is the real deal and I see why it was voted into the Michelin Guide for best restaurants. The service was stellar as our server made sure our waters will filled up while everything flowed perfectly from start to finish. When you combine unique ingredients with a perfect quiet ambiance and an above average dining experience, then this was a grand slam for me. I have been wanting to come here for quite some time. I have heard nothing but good things about this place. My husband and I came last week. To drink, he ordered the michelada and I had the Chef's margarita. I tried the michelada, and it was definitely one of my favorites. Most of the time, micheladas are bland. Nixtaco's mix is very good! The chef's margarita was also tasty! Slightly fruity, but not too sweet. To eat, my husband and I shared an order of beans and rice. I also ordered four tacos: octopus, cauliflower, corn, and short rib barbacoa. My eyes were bigger than my stomach. I should have only ordered three. All were delicious! My only complaint is the barbacoa was a too oily for my taste. Other than that, everything was great! I definitely recommend making a reservation. This place gets busy, quick! read more

It was ok. Friend told us about Nixtaco and the "pork belly tacos" a couple years ago but we never had a chance to drive out here to check it out until this weekend. Excited to check out a Michelin rated restaurant in Roseville. They have outdoor patio seating and indoor booths. Music inside was a bit louder than what I was comfortable with, so we had to yell a little more to hear what each other and the server was saying. Server Nate was great. Told us about the menu and was very attentive. We ordered a bunch of items to try, since he said the tacos are pretty small. 5 stars for service. Got two pork belly tacos, a pork belly roadkill taco, spicy shrimp taco and a short rib barbacoa burrito. They gave us complimentary chips and 4 different kinds of salsa. Also ordered some guacamole, which was great until I got to the part with a hot pepper. Yikes! Pork belly taco wasn't bad but it wasn't as amazing as I thought it would be. It was weird because the sauce was sweet and salty and then there's a thick layer of bean paste. I think I'd rather just go someplace and get pork belly. Everything else was decent but you know it's not that impressive when my husband takes a bite of it and then his reaction is to just kinda shrug. Short rib barbacoa burrito was super oily, salty and messy. Not something I'd get again. No special herbs or anything fancy. Just barbacoa, cheese and some avocado. The tacos had green onions but no lettuce or cilantro. So everything was just kinda salty. All in all, it was ok. Definitely worth trying to see what the hype is all about. It's not cheap. Each little taco is around $7 and does not come with any additional sides (other than the chips and salsa). If the tacos were amazing, I'd be fine with paying more. But given that they were just ok, $7 seems incredibly expensive. Glad we tried it but most likely won't be returning. $70 for a meal (no drinks) that just wasn't very amazing or spectacular. I honestly couldn't figure out why it would be Michelin rated, other than it's probably harder to find a place that serves pork belly in a taco. read more

This place has been on my list of food to try for awhile based on a food influencers recommendation. Since I was in the area for work training, I made sure to find the time to try it out. For appetizer, I ordered the Queso. It was good but would have been better with something added in. They have three options for additions (chorizo, chicharon, and rajas I believe). Tacos: Short rib barbacoa-flavorful, just wish it had a bigger slice of avocado Spicy shrimp- absolutely delicious, all the flavors worked well together Dessert: Flan-omg!!!!! Best flan I have had. When it came it had two spoons so I'm not sure if the portion is meant for two people to share. However I ate damn near the whole thing myself. They have an Overflow room/banquet room in the back for extra seating. read more
