Urban Om is a small gem right next to the main railway station in Stockholm…read more One of the founders is from New York and many of the guest teachers are from all over the globe, which gives a nice feeling of opening towards the visitors. All day long people come and go, taking part in classes, receive sessions and hanging out with friends, gracefully serviced by the reception and the karma crew. The program offers a wide variety of classes with (just some examples): vigorous Osho dynamic morning meditation, different yoga styles, chakra dance and silent sitting mindfulness practice. It's simply a great place to be. Check it out for yourself!

So, I tried this place out with a Groupon. They were offering a months membership at a discount…read more I'm happy with what I got for the price, and I think even the full price is reasonable considering what you get. There is a sauna and a nice locker room (I do wish it was a little bigger and had a shower curtain, I'm not as brave as the Swedish women who shower freely together). Sometimes the locker rooms can get a bit full and there is only one mirror that's usually occupied. The staff has been super accommodating and nice. Good customer service is important to me! Booking classes is easy and convenient through the website. I really think if your a yogi you will love this place. The classes themselves have been mostly good. I first took a "therapeutic yoga" class thinking it was more like muscle therapy, but it was definitely more like mental therapy... Stuff got a little weird. Everyone was moaning and breathing out so much it felt like I was having a stretch in the middle of an orgy on the subway in July. They could definitely use a little better air circulation if their going to keep having everyone share smells of what they just ate for lunch. That class got a little too "spiritual" for me. But, I still really like the place because the Flow yoga is pretty on point. However, they do tend to do some pretty advanced moves in there and do not offer modifications for all of them. It's like you just have to know them already (i know some, but not all). They also do not have very many levels of difficulty in their classes either, like I've seen at most other places. It's straight from yoga basics to full on flow yoga balancing on your head stuff. Needless to say, a lot of these sporty swedes could hack it, but I'm starting out again after quite a few years and found that standing on my head is just not going to happen at this moment in time. So overall, this place is good. I just feel like I need to try our a few more (maybe more of a sporty type of Pilates and yoga together in a studio) to make a judgment call of what I need personally. I'm just not into all that "free yourself, water, fire, spirit" stuff. If your like me you might find it a bit too extreme. I would stay away from the meditations and go more for the stretching classes.

First and only bad yoga experience of my life. Got denied access on my 2nd class as had not tried…read more"their" version of hot ashtanga. I have practiced yoga for over 10 years in several countries and never been denied entry (even when I did not know the language in Brasil). Furthermore the staff member said no in the most unpleasant way AND in the most unclear way (we literally did not understand the point they were making). All in all it left me with a most unwelcome feeling - not at all yogi-like! All in all my advise is do not go!! Try something more welcoming and more in the spirit of yoga. To top it off they charged me another 125 SEK for not coming back to other classes. This is a cost that apparently was baked into the liability waiver (i mean really who reads the fine print) for which I was given no copy of (and none of this was explained). Perhaps this is their way of making money...

Do NOT come to yogahimsa studio if you are looking for a kind, encouraging and challenging yoga…read moreexperience. Do NOT come here if you want to grow your yoga practice, or if you want to learn, or if you want to walk out feeling happy and centered. However, if you are looking for a yoga instructor who yells at you, embarrasses you, humiliates you in front of the class, and stops the class over and over to bully you, then THIS is the place for you!! Go for it, & leave your dignity at the door. I have been practicing for over 3 years, I have practiced with dozens of different Yogis/instructors and I have never once seen an instructor treat a student, (especially someone new to their class,) the way I and my cousin were treated. I am from out of town and wanted to practice here in Stockholm, I chose this place because it advertises that walk-ins and new students are welcome and the studio looked like a nice upscale facility. However, this turned out to be the worst yoga experience of my life. I have told everyone in my circle of friends and family how I was treated, they are shocked. I hope they and others who hear my experience can learn from my mistake and avoid this studio. There are so many yoga studios in this city, choose ANY one OTHER than this one. Yoga is first and foremost about acceptance, it's about you, your yoga mat and challenging yourself to the best of your ability. It is NOT about the teacher and whether the teacher approves of your practice, nor it is about being bullied because the yoga teacher is in a bad mood. I endured over an hour of bullying and being disgraced. I considered waking out, and I considered saying something, but I was in shock and so embarrassed and truly did not know how to react. Now I wish I had walked out. Other notes: They charge you for using a mat. This should be included in the 250kr charge for the one-time class (which should have been a free trial.) They also have no one in reception answering the phones. The yoga teacher IS the receptionist (very awkward) and we could not connect on the phone with anyone the day before to put our name in for the class (no one answered; she must have been bullying other students/teaching at the time.) We were misled into thinking we could show up before class and sign up. She was very annoyed that we were walk ins, which might explain why she treated us so poorly during class.
