Ok, The Wholesale Outlet is a strange little place. It's in what looks like a converted barn (!)…read moreThe parking lot (which it shares with The Apple Saddlery) is unpaved and full of potholes. When you go inside, everything is really messy and it looks like a warehouse. The back of the store is really poorly lit. So you would expect really low prices and great deals, right? Well, every clothing item hovers around the $100 mark. Now they do specialize in clothing from Canadian and European designers, and many of their items are made in Canada or in a European country, so yes, the quality is higher. However, with a name like "The Wholesale Outlet" I really was expecting lower prices. In my opinion, the majority of their items are rather dowdy, unless you are in your 8th decade of life, in which case, you would be considered a fashion plate if you wore these items. HOWEVER, if you have the time and patience to sort through their stuff, you will find some lovely gems. I have only ever purchased skirts here, and only in the clearance section at the back of the store, where everything is 50% off (but poorly lit and items are tightly packed together - my arms often hurt after pulling all the items apart to look at them on the racks). Now to give you an idea of my style, I love asymmetric hem lines, over-sized buttons, and superfluous zippers, so I'm a huge fan of the skirt styles from French, German and Scandinavian designers. The sizing of items here is a little strange. Yes, some are European sizes, but even that I found not to be consistent. I'm pretty much a North American size 2 (sometimes 0), so typically a European 36 or 38 and a UK/Australian 6 or 8. However, here I've tried on a "European 40" and a "Canadian 6" and couldn't zip up either item :P So the take home message is, if you like something, disregard the sizing, just eyeball it and if it looks like it might fit, try it on. If you are under 50 years old, you will likely be the youngest person in the store. The staff here are very nice and friendly. I don't come here often, but I will pop in once in a while to check things out.

I wore the one that was more age appropriate for me, I wasn't really comfortable with the long v neck on the one, even at the store, but Haily/Holly said it was fine for my age and naturally my Husband agreed so I settled. Well I wore the long black one with fall colors on it, this i was completely comfortable in. Another friend of mine was there and she had purchased her dress there too, which I thought was awesome. So long story short, I am a farmgirl, no longer working in the office/business world. I called and asked if I could return the UNWORN DRESS, still with tags on it and the LUNA paper.....I DID NOT want a refund, I would exchange for a shirt(s) just the $42. pd. for the unworn dress. No they can't do that do to COVID. Hmmmm so when I went in it was COVID and I was allowed to try on as many dresses as I needed to purchase something and with a pleasant attitude. Soooo if I can't return an item do to COVID......sounds like clothing should not be tried on due to COVID......unless you wrap your body in a plastic bubble so you dont drop a germ. Sorry but not sorry, these young ladies just went against everything I thought they stood for. To bad because there were alot of shirts I seen in there that I fell in love with.....this sucks!

They have clothes by Jennifer Glasgow and Miik. They have soaps and body care by Purple Urchin. They also have jewelery by local designers and weird knick knacks like hand puppets of Canadian prime ministers, lol. So funky and weird! This store is more neat, clean and upscale-ish, a la "Yorkville" (Toronto reference) and not like Adorit in the Byward Market (that also carries local and Canadian designs, and some of the same brands, like Miik) which is more, a la "Kensington Market" (sorry, another Toronto reference), but meaning more bohemian and smelling of patchouli. Prices are high, but your getting good quality and supporting the Canadian market.

I will definitely be going back to this trendy boutique soon. I have been looking for a wedding…read moredress (something trendy and artistic and untraditional!) and I found several options here. The great thing about Flock Boutique is that the clothes are made by Canadian designers, the majority of which are women! They try to bring in lots of fashions from Ottawa and Montreal also, to be local. The accessories here are amazing! They have lots of colourful pins and earrings and some great bags! I really had to control myself, or I would have had an empty wallet when I came out. I did see several dress options, but was tight on time, so I couldn't try anything on. One of the girls working in the store patiently showed me several dresses and answered all my questions about the designers and the store. The people who work here clearly know what they are talking about. It is also great that so many of the designs are by Canadian women! For someone who wants to dress artistically, this is the perfect spot to shop.

I love consignment stores for so many reasons: I love retro looks, sometimes I miss out on items…read morefrom previous seasons that are no longer in stores and can snag them for a fraction of the cost, and being both short and slim I can rarely wear things "off the rack" but at consignment shops, I can find pieces that other petite ladies have already made alterations to so then I CAN just wear "off the rack." And in the age of online purchases, where online measurements may not be accurate and return shipping is too expensive, I've found many brand new, still with tags items on consignment for cheap! However, some consignment stores are better than others. Act II is one of the better ones in that it is not overly crowded with merchandise. I don't like it when stuff is crammed together. Act II also does not smell musty. They have a good mix of regular clothes and higher end items. When I was there, the person working was named Penny and she was very friendly and nice. They have 2 prices listed on the tag. The original price, and the price if it doesn't sell after a certain date (the date is also printed on the tag). The tags are colour coded. After a certain time, certain coloured tags are 50% off (the original price). Then at the end of the season, some items are 70% off (the original price). So today I scored a Christian Chenail (really cool Montreal designer. Designed and made in Canada, woo hoo!) skirt for $19.99 (it was several sizes too big, but too cute and too good of a deal to pass on it, so I will have to pay for the alterations this time), a brand new still with tags Jockey workout top for $8.50 and a Holt Renfrew house brand basic black t-shirt without tags, but looks new for $4.20. All their designer purses looked legit (no replicas/fake stuff that I could discern). Their shoe selection is not that big and very little in smaller sizes (I don't think there was anything in my size (5)). They had some jewelry too. Act II is really out of the way for me and not in an area that I frequent, but it's a cool store and I think it will be one of the stores that I'll be sure to visit whenever I'm in Barrhaven. It's in a strip mall and there is a lot of free parking.

Unique Accessories is a little store with some interesting items. They sell mainly hats,…read morefascinators, and costume jewelry. Their hats are cool, but I wouldn't say all that unique. The styles and quality are similar to Parkhurst hats. The fascinators are pretty but honestly, I've purchased the exact same fascinators on eBay for a quarter of the price. However, at the store you get them right away, while on eBay you have to wait for shipping. I never need a last minute fascinator, so I'm cool with paying less and waiting for shipping. I'm not a huge fan of costume jewelry, but if you are, you might find some statement pieces here. They do have some quirky handbags, like one shaped like a teapot or a car. However, the prices are really high for what I feel is not that great quality. They have scarves, broaches, and other accessories too. The store is a bit on the small side but it's full of merchandise, so it does look a little crowded. A nice place to poke around. I've only ever made purchases here during their sales. I find the regular prices too high for the quality.

I am very much a hat person and Must try things on before buying them - shape and size are a big part of it. While I am all over a good deal, I am also a big believer in "you get what you pay for" and if it's something you want to keep longterm, make it an investment. That said, I don't find the prices in this store unreasonable. My whole family is from the UK (I'm the Only Canadian) so hats come with the territory. Whenever we would cross the pond, picking up a good hat was always part of the trip, and let me tell you, they are Expensive! Unique Accessories offers fun hats and fascinators for a relatively decent price, and they are quite good quality - everything I have so far has stood up to the elements and become permanent pieces in my closet. The only other real hat store I have found is a tiny boutique in an office building in the market, where the Milliner makes everything from scratch and is therefor quite pricey (but again, you really get what you pay for - they are stunning) - I believe Mrs. Trudeau shops there too. As for the rest of the glitter and bling, it's quite fun and very colourful, but I must admit, I have only ever purchased headpieces. I will certainly be back, and I'm looking for an event to showcase my most recent acquisition!
