They stock a large range of quality jewellery and although it may be out of the budget for a lot of us, think of it a memorabilia or keepsakes, and of course you are paying for quality, not your run-of-the-mill token teatowels! Head down Veronica Street before you get to the mall if you are coming in from the city, it is easy to find and there is plenty of parking nearby. It is also open everyday except Sundays.

With brands like Karen Walker, Lonely Hearts, Twenty Seven Names, and a whole lot more, it is so fun to shop in and even just window shop in. I love going here with my mum as she goes off to the women's section and I spend my time in the younger section. It's also great that town has somewhere that stocks all these great brands because I can just pop in on my lunch break rather than having to make a specific trip to Ponsonby or Newmarket. They also have just had a seriously good sale that actually had really reasonable prices. I'd shop here any day and pay the prices just because I know the clothes are really good quality and will last me a good few seasons.

Being a boy, jewellery doesn't really appeal to me all that much. But being someone who appreciates…read moredesign flair and technical proficiency, New Jewellery very much appeals. They have jewellery from local designers and do a good job of promoting this fact, with the pieces organised by who created them, and with a profile of the artist on display. I was particularly taken with some stuff by John Walters, who makes intricately detailed pop-culture icons out of silver. They also have a good range of goth stuff (skulls, scorpions, those weird pointy finger-armour things that Marilyn Manson wears sometimes) which didn't appeal to me but no doubt will to some people. The prices range, so although you'll pay quite a bit if you want a big piece, you can get smaller things like earrings for less than thirty bucks. The lady behind the counter was friendly, and was happy to let us try anything on if we wanted.

There's also a range of silk clothing towards the back of the store, plenty of crystals, and of course, a solid stock of incense in its many forms. But The Third Eye is probably best known for its jewellery - this place is absolutely packed with earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings. They have semiprecious pieces in sterling silver, and well as really reasonably-priced wooden, glass, and resin options. Peace, love, and jewellery dude!

That is exactly the kind of service I received when visiting the Mountain Jade store in Auckland. I visited 3 times! The piece I wanted was completely out of my price range, but the lady serving me (the same time on each visit) was patient, personable and professional. She took time to get to know me and helped give me great information on the different types of jade and the meanings behind each design. I ended up with the "out of my price range" piece, but I was so happy with it. Knowing the extent of the craftsmanship gone into it, the fact that it was a one of a kind design, and a piece of genuine New Zealand jade, I couldn't have been happier. I purchased it on the last day of my 6 weeks in the country and really feel as if I've taken a piece of the land home with me, my favourite souvenir!

They have all the standard souvenirs you'd expect, like sheepskin products, all the kitschy NZ themed stuff, stationery, etched glass things and a wide range of the standard and bulk sizes of nutritional supplements (royal jelly, placenta, bee pollen, manuka honey etc) and the matching skincare. They also stock the Ugg Boots range, and for $379 you can get yourself a pretty outrageous pair of sequined Ugg Boots. I don't understand the pricing on these, but if that's your thing, this is where you get them! They also have the Ugg baby range, which are actually quite cute little bootie shoes and things, but I couldn't justify spending $100 on a pair of baby shoes that would fit for about 2 weeks.

It's a really good place to come if you are looking for a very 'kiwi' gift to send to friends and families overseas. And there's a whole lot of kauri/ wood ware. I mean a WHOLE lot.
