Ok. Many, many, MANY, moons ago, the Minneapolis Kickers put up a soccer field here after getting permission from the city. Early 70's???? It was the first for quite a few years until the team, Andinos Soccer Club, added a second.
I remember going here as a kid with my old man getting the field ready for play. Marking the field with lime, putting up nets, corner flags, etc. It was the only thing happening out here. Maybe a softball field or two?
What I do remember is the golf course. And at the corner of Bloomington Road and Minnehaha, an old Sherman tank from WWII sat at the corner.
The firehouse at the end of Minnehaha was in existence, but all the buildings were shuttered. There was even a ball field, with a big cement stadium at the end of Taylor Avenue.
What has become of this place now is pretty amazing. Multiple soccer and ball fields with them always being used.
This is just one of many examples of a great park that the city of Minneapolis offers. It would be cool if some historical placards were placed around here highlighting how this place has changed over the years. read more
