My visit to this landmark institution was part of a cruise shore excursion, so my time was limited. The marzipan cake was light, creamy and delicious. A perfect pairing with their coffee. Unfortunately there was not enough time to explore the huge selection of marzipan, cakes, tarts and more. The displays are quite impressive.

Niederegger is a family-owned company that produces marzipan and sweets since 1806. In addition to marzipans, they also have a variety of nougats and truffles. I am in LOVE with their marzipan Lucky Pig - it is bite-sized, pig-shaped, and is super duper cute!!! If you're a fan of marzipans, check Niederegger out - it has a very delicate taste to it, soft, creamy, and delicious. These can be found in specialty/gourmet shops or be purchased online. +marzipan Lucky Pigs :D +family-owned +nougats and truffles also available

After browsing all the marzipan creations on the ground floor, I went upstairs to the cafe, which is much larger and was a lot less busy than the downstairs sitting area. I had the classic Marzipan Torte, which has a marzipan topping and a creamy nut filling. It was good, but didn't taste enough like marzipan for a fan like me (although it might be perfect for someone who doesn't love marzipan that much). I had marzipan milk coffee with it, and found it a bit disappointing... just milk coffee with almond flavoring. Service was efficient and friendly enough. Be sure to go on to the top floor to see the small marzipan museum. The highlight for me were the life-size historic figures made of marzipan. I also bought some Marzipan Weissbrot (white bread), which is just a loaf of plain marzipan with no chocolate covering. Super rich and delicious, and relatively inexpensive at 5.30 euros for a medium-sized loaf.

After a dinner of Labskaus and Schweinebraten, we decided to try the traditional Niederegger Marzipan Nusstorte, a marzipan nut tart. Though mostly creme with small pieces of nuts, the tart is covered in a layer of marzipan with a crumbly crust. It was pretty good. Nothing spectacular, but worth trying, as this is regarded as the best marzipan in Germany... MAYBE THE WOLRD! I also got the Niederegger Marzipan Cappuccino, which I thought was delicious, but my wife's plain Cappuccino was way too milky and not so great. Also copped some marzipan nibbles on the way out. If you're in Lübeck and you don't come here for a slice of Marzipan Nusstorte, I feel that's a fail.

What is not to love about the temple of Marzipan? It's all about how many shapes, sizes and flavors of this almond paste dessert item. Laugh at the fish heads and buy your obligatory marzipan in the shape of the city barrack gates

Amazing marzipan chocolates. I think the best I have ever had. Walnut rum marzipan truffle is spectacular. Espresso marzipan truffle is almost as good. Thank you Germany for Niederegger.

One of the popular cáfe in the center of Lübeck. Great place to have yourself some nice coffee and marzipan cakes. Of course, they also got other different kind of cakes there. The shop itself has quite a long history and it's location just made it great place to hang around with friends or family. The view from the shop is also really nice. Nice place to have a break. The shopping street just next by, after a cake or two, just go to do some shopping. Well, because of popularity of this place. During oir visited, even we got a table for ourselves, it took really long time to get service. And the service wasn't perticularly nice. That's the part that we all didn't like from this place. I also tried there their special marzipan milk coffee, it was a bit too sweet for me as a coffee. And let's say I have different expectation when I made the order. The marzipan waffel was quite good as I heard. Otherwise, it is still nice place to sit down and take a break.

The Homeland of Marzipan.. this is where it's made people! This is the flagship store where you get it all and there is a cafe upstairs. I have to admit the cafe is pricy but it's SO worth it. Nusstorte (100% true marzipan cake) with a cup of coffee and you're set. I hate imitation marzipan - I can tell when someone gives me the fake almond paste... gross! It's this stuff or the highway for me :) They have opened a patio setting in the Rathaus square in the summer to accomidate the people that want to soak in the rays. Take note of the girls at the cashout when they wrap your boxes - they are QUICK! That is talent :P You can't skip this place if you're in my little town of Lubeck
