And directly across the canal is the fabled Canottieri Olona 1894 rowing club. The canal itself, even if you're there after dark, is quite picturesque and atmospheric. All worth seeing, and then stopping in this unpretentious, cozy - even a bit dreamy? - osteria. Food is outstanding, with a menu featuring the chef's "inspirations" along with traditional dishes. The mackerel appetizer (see photo) is the unusual presentation, but other dishes, like the pasta and potatoes in pesto, are more typical - all excellent. Great wine list, too. Service was superb, with top-notch professionals like our waiter, Maurizio, who was attentive without being obtrusive, and had many good suggestions about the food and wine. Can't wait to come back!
