There was some open space for play and run-off going through the property down to a large pond that was fenced off. My guess is that it's a retention pond for storm run-off and probably nothing living should swim in it. I would have been more pleased with this park if I had not seen the water features and been excited for that. It's a small park but fairly well kept (except for the water.) close to nearby hotel.

And that should be a friendly case of doggy fun. The park also offers bags to handle your dog's business once duty calls!

I finally got a chance to come here with my neighbor and her toddler on a weekday and I was surprised how many kids were at the playground. However, we never felt crowded here and there are several playgrounds in the park, with one being in a slightly wooded section. Besides children's playgrounds, the park offers extensive greenways, sports facilities, and even, event spaces. Sports facilities include: baseball/softball fields, soccer field and an outdoor fitness center. On my next visit, I'm going to explore even more of the greenways and try to find the steel sculpture in the park called the "Quantum Embrace." Know before you go: 1) Lakeshore is open daily: 6 am - 10 pm 2) Plenty of parking spaces 3) There are public restrooms onsite 4) Events at the park hosted by the Roots & Revelry Group. Some events coming up are Paint & Sip (April 28th) and Mahjong in Garden (May 12th)

There is a separate section for small dogs, and plenty of dog bags (to pick up waste) on both sides. Some people seem to think it's okay to let you dog poo and leave it. It's not okay. Now that we've cleared up the confusion, back to the park. There is water available, but it's outside the fence. I recommend bringing a bowl to fill up and have inside. The park is great, with benches, and plenty of shade. Oh, and Plenty of parking from what I've experienced. Overall a great place to bring the fur balls!

Holidays used to attract big parties of people to the park to add more bodies to the games. There's a nice little trail between the area behind the pool and Admiral Park down the street (the frisbee golf place). I never went to the pool outside of scout camp days, so I can't say much about it. I remember it being hell, but it's a public pool. What can I expect? It gets busy, it appears, so it must be OK.

Strong secure entry gates. There are great water stations on both sides of the park for dogs and humans as well and water bowls scattered around. There's only one small area under shade and cover with two benches on each side, so be aware if it's sunny that there's no other coverage for dogs or humans. There are bathrooms and a small children's park located near by as well. The highlights of this park are the multiple walking trails. They start on either side of the dog park with trails around the park that go all the way to the old entrance off of Alcoa Highway. These are well kept, cleared regularly after bad weather, and are slightly hilly but easy to walk and the dogs love it.

This dog park is fairly new, and has some young trees. Most of the trees are too young to provide shade, but should be great in the future. The grassy area is located on a hillside, which makes chasing a ball a little strange. It could be good if your pooch is a diehard ball chaser; just tossing a ball down the hill would be great exercise. Mine golden retriever retrieves about 40% to 50% of the time, lol. You get the idea. It could be great excercise for ME! There is only one sitting area for owners (pet parents), but maybe they will install more in the future. During this summer heat, we spent most of our time in the wooded area, but there's no seating there. Overall, a great dog park! I hope it continues to be well maintained & developed.

After driving around, we came across the playground area that also displayed Alex Healy's statue. He is the author of "Roots." It's a lovely statue of him and it's really big! We located Morningside Park quite easily off Dandridge Ave..I just plugged the directions in to my Google Maps app on my android and Gertrude (the name of my phone) guided us there quickly from our luncheon off Central Ave. We went strictly to see the Alex Haley statue located there in the Haley Heritage Square. This park is large and the entire area is FREE. We found parking easily and entered into the area of the park where the Statue is located. It is very nice but remember on a HOT SUNNY day, like today..Don't touch the statue YOU WILL GET BURNED...just a little FYI in case you wanted to climb on it for a photo or put a small child near it for a photo opportunity..just be careful it will BURN YOU or THEM... I was surprised to learn that my 18 yr old daughter has NEVER SEEN the ROOTS SAGA...I am a bad mommy..I have to make sure she sees it and soon!!! IT is a terrific Story of a True family that needs to be heard.. If you are in the area visiting Knoxville, put this Wonderful FREE site on your MUST DO LIST...and enjoy...the park is nice and set up for picnicking if you choose..
