Although I have never ever claimed from an insurance company (I am in my sixties), I decided to try NFU Mutual for both car + building/contents insurance, especially as they are highly recommended by Which Magazine.
To my surprise, my initial online request was met with an email from the local branch informing me that they could not furnish me with quotes (no reason given).
I was then directed to NFU's 'Direct' customer call centre (no quote from them) who told me to phone another local branch (no quote from them either) who directed me back to their customer call centre.
Eventually, I was told that NFU Mutual are not really interested in customers who reside in built-up areas such as Manchester, Glasgow, Liverpool and London. I was also told that if I insisted on obtaining a quotation from them, the price would probably be prohibitive.
So, after filling in NFU's online page (for quotations), phone calls to 2 of their local branches and 2 phone calls to their customer call centre, I was finally told about NFU's attitude towards potential customers who live in a city.
I have since informed Which Magazine. Hopefully, they will look into the matter and alter their website. There's no point in highly recommending an insurance company that does not welcome city-dwelling customers.
What disappointed me was the fact that I was made to go round in circles before eventually being told that my custom was not wanted. What a waste of time and effort.
