I've been a patient of Dr. Bonnie and North Shore for about 10 years now, and for the last 5 years…read morehave been going here once a month as part of my preventative health care/self care routine. Dr. Bonnie starts every session with a brief consultation where she asks how I've been feeling, if I have any concerns or particular issues to address, and during it all she takes notes. She then creates a customized acupuncture plan to address my needs. The session lasts just over an hour. Dr. Bonnie also offers other services - I think she has a massage therapist who works with her, and they also do cupping - but I have only worked with her for medical consultations (to review bloodwork results and talk about vitamins and supplements) and acupuncture. In terms of the office, it is easy to find, right on Rt. 332 just outside the north end of the village of Canandaigua. The office is in an old brick building that used to be a trolley terminal. There is street parking in front of the office and also parking in the back. Inside the office there is a small cozy waiting room and there are at least 4, maybe 6, rooms outfitted with massage-table-type cots and side tables and chairs. Usually you meet with Dr. Bonnie in this room then get on the table for your treatment. I definitely recommend Dr. Bonnie for acupuncture, and also feel she is a great naturopathic resource if you are also looking for someone to consult with in addition to a western-style primary care physician. She is knowledge, kind and curious, and is very focused on individual wellness.

Over the last 15 years, I have had the privilege to have Dr. Carter as part of my health team, and…read moreit's been extremely healing and helpful. I have had consistent health issues from staph infections and shingles, to problems with my nervous and lymphatic system, anemia and chronic allergies at a young age. Some of these conditions have been harder to treat, owing to the lack of a well-known root cause and/or diagnosis; this has been extremely frustrating, not only because of the pain and illness, but because of the lack of empathy, care and love I have experienced in the traditional medical system. Dr. Carter has been the one doctor that has really listened to me in a very healing way. He has validated my concerns and has not not rushed to diagnose something just to check a box. Instead of making assumptions, he has patiently walked with me through this journey to health with a lot of loving care, empowering me in every step of the way to take control of my health. I have had experiences with many doctors that simply don't show care or empathy; with Dr. Carter, I have felt that he cares for me as a patient in a holistic way, and this in itself has been incredibly healing for me. Not only that, but his evaluations and recommendations have been the most effective throughout my healing journey, as a result of his holistic, personal, and balanced approach. As an anthropologist, I have studied the traditional and fundamental role of healthcare providers over time and in a variety of cultures: a trusted person who cares for the total wellbeing of their patient. Dr. Carter truly embodies this model of care. It is a real privilege to be under the care of Dr. Carter, and I highly recommend him.

This doctor is very anxious about money, collecting your money, is deceptive, and really has little…read moreto offer. My first appointment was $400, about an hour, during which he asked me about my medical conditions and spent the bulk of the time slowly handwriting instructions which were very basic health advice. He recommended the book, The Autoimmune Solution by Amy Myers. I recommend you read this book and follow it - instead of spending time and money on seeing him. There is very little he is going to do other than to point out this same information. The information it contains is general and can be found elsewhere on the internet, but this is a good, easy way to find it. It suggests things like eat no gluten, eat no dairy, eat no sugar. Also, do a little basic research on the benefits of intermittent fasting - he will want you to do that as well. You don't need to pay hundreds of dollars to find this information and implement it yourself. And it's all he is going to do. He called me at home to emphasize how important the second appointment with him would be and how crucial it was that I show up and get the very specific plan he had for me. Other reviewers have commented that they liked that he did this, but I found it odd, off putting. When I arrived for the second appointment, his receptionist was anxious to take my $300 fee right away. I went in to see the doctor. He read my lab work - which I already knew about because it is reported to the patient through the "My Chart" portal. He commented in an exaggerated way on how severe my autoimmune conditions are (I know they are not as severe as he was indicating because I know the lab values, the past biopsy results, and responses I was getting from other doctors on the status of these other conditions). He then produced a bunch of paperwork for a contract with him, in which I would be paying thousands of dollars up front for 6 months of appointments with him. When I turned down this plan, he terminated the appointment, giving me really nothing for having come into the office and spent $300 to see him. This crucial second appointment that he had emphasized was so important that I come in for was nothing more than a sales pitch. What a ripoff! How deceptive and manipulative. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. DO A LITTLE BIT OF RESEARCH AND WORK YOURSELF - YOU DON'T NEED HIM AT ALL. If needed, you can order your own lab tests in NY state to monitor your conditions. You will have to pay out of pocket for this, but it's better than paying for him.
