In June 2025, I contacted NextLaw seeking representation for a DUI case and retained them after an initial conversation that made me feel confident and supported. I was told an attorney would contact me within a week to introduce themselves and discuss my case. That did not happen.
It took nearly a month for an attorney to reach out--and only because I had an upcoming court date. We spoke once more in August, when he told me the prosecution had sent a plea offer and that he would call me on Labor Day to discuss it. I even confirmed that it was a holiday, and he assured me he would be working. He never called. I left a voicemail with the office and never received a response.
The next communication I received was a notice dated 9/30/25 stating that my attorney's last day would be 10/3/25 and that a new attorney would contact me soon. No one did. By the end of October, I still had no idea who was handling my case. I called and left messages requesting a callback and received nothing.
At that point, I stopped making payments because there had been zero communication from any attorney--only automated breach letters and failed payment notices by email.
On 1/8 at 8:48 a.m., I received a text from someone identifying himself as Dan, the owner, telling me to "have a seat in the courtroom" and that he was "on the way." I had never been informed of a court date, nor had I been told who was representing me. When I replied asking who he was, the interaction immediately became hostile.
He requested that I catch up for three months I had stopped paying despite the lack of representation, then withdrew from my case--which, frankly, was for the best. When I appeared in court afterward, I was informed that my pretrial hearing had been continued six times, and I had only been notified twice.
I do not recommend NextLaw. Their communication is virtually nonexistent. read more
