We were the first group in for this season. Other than being very cold and rainy it was a great trip. Nothing has changed since our first visit in 2019. In my opinion this is the best overall lodge in Manitoba. There are so many different ways that this lodge is superior to others but let me try and highlight a few. Let's start with the booking process. Pit, the owner and General Manager, appears to sit at his computer 24 hours a day. When you contact him, you get an almost immediate response. His communication is clear and to the point. When you book you get a provisional slot hold until you make your deposit. You can send in a check or use a credit card. Once you book his wife, Julie, takes over and contacts you about any special requests you may have. If you have any special dietary requests, booze orders or the like she makes sure it happens. Next are the lodge facilities. The cabins are immaculate and appear brand new. Ours had two bedrooms each with a mini split heater and AC and a living room with a fireplace. There was also a screened in porch. A short walk to the main lodge itself which houses the dining room and "Big Mollys Bar". The bar is unusual in that it includes a happy hour before dinner where the drinks are free. At most lodges I have fished the groups tend to keep to themselves. One impact of the happy hour is that most groups become very friendly. Secret spots and lures are shared freely and you make new friends. We have already made contact we people we met at the lodge and are making plans to met again next year. On to the food. Most lodges have a fixed breakfast. At Aikens you can order whatever you want for breakfast. I had asked Julie to have some hot peppers for my omelet and they sure were hot! The shore lunches were also unique. The lodge has prepared several sites throughout the lake with picnic benches, metal roofing to protect from the rain, propane cook tops and chopped wood for the open firs. This not only keeps you dry and comfortable but dramatically reduced the food preparation and cooking time. The lunches themselves are not just the old fried fish but included different variety of batters and baked fish. Dinner at the lodge was also special every night. Julie cooked for us a few nights and she is the best chef in Canada. One night we had a pork chop that must have been 2 inched thick but was still moist and tender. Steak night riveled any steak house in Winnipeg, The staff were also exceptional. Pit, Julie and Patrick are all co-owners and unlike many other lodges are on site. This ensures that if any issues arise, they are dealt with quickly and properly, They have hired a great group of young ladies to work the dining room and cabins. They are friendly and hard working. The guides are also good. They tend to hire young men in college who work there for4 to 6 years so you always have an experienced guide who knows the lake in your group. The newer ones receive formal training from Pit and Pat and also learn from the more experienced guides. The fishing is also good. The boats are newer 18-foot Lunds powered by 60HP Yamaha motors. They have very comfortable cushioned chairs, depth finders, live wells and trolling motors. Most lodges have. 16-foot boats and 20 or 30HP engines, benches and no electronics You can really cover a lot of ground quickly with these 60 HP motors! It was very cold (low 40's) and rainy during our trip which impacted the fishing. However we still managed to catch several pike on the low 40s and had an afternoon during which we caught walleye over 22 inches for 3 hours straight. I made the "century club" by catching 4 walleyes totaling over 100 inches in the same day. We can't wait to return next year!

However my child wanted to continue dance and so I did more research and I found Kickit. Everything that I found unacceptable at Marquis was exemplary at Kickit right from the start. First, the communication was timely and detailed. From my initial inquiries, to class information, to costumes, to year-end recital. The right amount of information delivered in a timely manner. No delays or repeated phone calls and emails required in order to get answers or find out information as per the other school. Second, ordering costumes was seamless. The school took accountability in measuring the students and once costumes were received they took accountability for the fit. The price point was reasonable for the 2/3 minute recital performance and were absolutely adorable. Third, the teacher treated all the children with respect. I didn't notice any favoritism and more importantly neither did my child. Fourth, though I had my reservations of volunteering at the year-end recital due to the harassment experienced at Marquis, the parents of my child's class asked if I would, so I did. Kickit is such a reputable school - incredibly professional - and the running of their year-end recital would exemplify this. All the volunteer information was communicated a week before the recital so expectations were known in advance and there was time for any questions to be addressed. The parents volunteering and staff members were incredibly respectful and courteous. I cannot speak well-enough of Kickit. I would highly recommend Kickit Island Lakes! Their is no question that this school respects their dancers, their parents and is incredibly professional! Congratulations Kickit for running such an amazing dance studio! With legal penalties.  ... Hate the experience I had trying to cancel classes. I thought I filled out the paperwork and submitted it but I didn't(completely my fault). I didn't want to do classes anymore as I'm going through finiancial hardship and recently have had to leave my job. No business is required to but maybe offer to wave the late fee. But that's okay, my fault I didn't know I didn't cancel properly. No understanding from the owner ; that's fine. But the "professional" rudeness and trying to get me to sign a contract stating that I can't have an opinion about how this business has treated me in this situation or I have to pay them $250 in a penalty is really gross. I was told I had to sign it as an agreement so they wouldn't send my stuff to creditors (honestly they probably did which is fine I'm not signing anything like that).When asking over and over where to send the money as they stated it could be etransfered I've gotten no response (lost my card it's changed). I don't like how my situation was handled and I think they try to be professional but it comes off super rude. No realness or understanding. I enrolled my daughter at Royal Dance in December of 2014 after an eye appointment next door. I saw…read moreon the sign they were still enrolling and I figured it she hated it then I would only be out 1/2 a year tuition instead of a full year. The door was locked, even though it said it was open, and a girl popped out of the truck in front of the store and asked if I needed help. We went inside and I asked about ballet for 3 year olds. They had a Monday class from 6-7, which was great because her 5-6 swimming class was such a stressful rush to get to. The best part was we didn't have to buy the crazy expensive costume for the end of the year show because they were already ordered. She told me about a spring show at the other location my daughter was able to dance in and I was sold. I signed up, paid, but was told I couldn't have the parent packet sitting on the desk. She said it was the last one and it had to stay in the filing cabinet (she then put it away). I was told classes started January 6th and the girl I was dealing with, who looked 15, would be the teacher. My friend had sent her daughter here a few years prior and had major complaints about the studio but I was taking it as a trial run. Her daughter loves ballet but another friend's daughter hated it so I would see how it went. They don't allow shoes past the carpet by the door, which is understandable. Winnipeg winters are wet and messy. The waiting room is cold in the winter especially by the window but the girl at the desk has a nice little heater for herself. Unfortunately because of the shoe rule during the end of class it's a madhouse of parents and students tripping over each other to prepare themselves to enter the cold. I love my daughter, but she is 3, and 3 year olds don't always listen. When she took swimming a month prior she spent 90% of the time screaming her head off because she didn't want to lie on her back. Saying I was nervous about her listening to her ballet teacher would be an understatement. I tried approaching the teacher after class to talk about her listening skills and all I got was a nervous teenager not wanting to answer me. I tried reassuring her that I know my kid had listening problems and she couldn't offend me but I got more of the same and some half answers. While watching the class through the blinds I found that I didn't like was how the class was structured. There was the teenage teacher, a teenage assistant, and 2 maybe 10-12 year olds also assisting. The two older ones pretty much ignored my daughter and left it to one of the younger ones to deal with her. The problem with "tweens" trying to teach and work with kids and toddlers in a structured environment is that they are not teachers and they are not mature. This kid kept grabbing my child's arm leading and pulling her where she wanted her to go. As a parent it was even more frustrating that there was no adult supervising anything. The teenage teacher was the only person in change and I was not about to approach the assistants when their parents were packing them up too. My kid loved the class so I tolerated the tweens and thankfully they were only in 2 more of her classes. After that first class they closed the blinds so parents couldn't watch but on occasion they left the door open. I saw a room full of happy little girls dancing but what I didn't see was any attempt to correct the students if there were not following proper form. The girls were using the bar and while my daughter hung from it and did kicks the teacher and the assistant continued with the lesson and neither even bothered to make sure she was learning. I continued asking for the parent packet with no luck and last week I found out from another parent that the spring show already happened. The other parent said there was an email that went out inviting the kids. Wait, what!?! I was told my kid was going to be in that! I spoke to the girl at the desk, I told her I never got this email. Her response was that only 2 girls from the little ballerinas class showed up. So I told her again that I never got the email. She took my application form out and searched the email list. She was shocked when she couldn't find my email address on it and her demeanor changed right away. She told me about a student show that would be happening in June. The kids preform for each other so she should still get to preform but she should pick her up early because that is the same day costumes are picked up. That's great and all but it still doesn't help that my husband and I didn't get to see her dance. She gave me the director's email and I emailed her this morning. I am really unimpressed with this place. If you want your child to "learn" dance more for the exercise, convenience of not dealing with downtown traffic, and just having fun then I absolutely recommend this studio! My child will not be returning next year, we will be enrolling her in the RWB.

I asked repeatedly that my meal was gluten free and I was told yes each time and had eyes rolled at me. I trusted it and unfortunately, broke out into hives within 10 mins. Definitely not gluten free. Thank goodness, I do not have life threatening condition but it was still a bummer. When I mentioned it to the banquet manager, I was brushed off and told that I must have eaten off of someone else's meal! Really, like I did not know exactly what I had eaten. Would not ever trust a wedding meal there again. The venue was pretty though, especially with nice bistro ceiling lighting all around room and the wood beams.
