Small classes, progressive values such as inclusivity and diversity, values that so much seemed to reflect our own. It just so happens that our fourth grader was the victim of a crime over the summer before attending this new school. His behavior was affected by this event and, initially, NFS staff, using their language of partnership and collaboration, provided support that had an immediate positive impact. As they expressed a willingness to collaborate with us so did they decide NOT to actually collaborate. The simple recommendation was to keep the support in place and unchanged for a number of months. For whatever their reason, they chose not to do so. This immediately set our child up for failure as they made changes to the support that was working perfectly. Despite our efforts to collaborate, they simply changed it with no regard to what would work for our son. As a result, he was basically set up for failure. Our bright and motivated 9-year-old boy was never in so much trouble as he was at NFS. He was clearly under their critical microscope and their lack of understanding, empathy and unwillingness to work with him was both shocking and obvious. We decided that this school was definitely not a match for him or for our family. The values that they tout are good on paper but our experience is that none of them were genuine and there was no caring about our child, family or experience. "Teaching the whole child", and all of their "partnership", was chewed up and spit out along with us. But they made a point of keeping our.overpayment. Please know that NFS collects tuition fully in advance of the school year being complete. So if you invest in this place for your child's education and well-being, be prepared to lose your money if your child is deemed not good enough by those on high in administration. A sad reflection of Quaker values equating to a complete and total lack of empathy, enormous hypocrisy and obvious greed.

IF your child has special needs and/or an IEP - this is NOT the district for you. I know they have glowing reviews in various publications... but those accounts are not inclusive of special needs children or children with IEP's. This district has done everything they can to impede what outside professionals have recommended for my child, for years! They did not do what was needed or obvious until forced based on the testimony of two professionals and even then their primary reason for going 'that' route was to avoid liability, and that was just incident. There were many more circumstances where my child was not provided what was needed/requested, by professionals, and the child bore the brunt of the districts decision. CRSD put me in a position where the only option was due process and/or litigation. Unfortunately, upon advice from others who has gone that route with them, I avoided this process. There have been many other parents (not just one family) whom offered this advice said because CRSD's pockets are so deep, they can out wait you and hope you give up. Their number one concern is their wallet, their liability and their statistics. If your child needs interfere with any of these concerns... your child will be on the short end of the stick. I have no other experience with other districts, but I can tell you if you are deciding to move here for your child because they are "the best" and your child has and IEP... move elsewhere!

The facility is large enough for two full courts, and it is used morning 'til late afternoon on Sundays to fit in all the teams playing in this age bracket. Like most public schools in the lower grades, it lacks bleachers. Parents stand/sit around the edge of the courts to watch their kids play. The referees are local people trained in wearing black and white stripes and a whistle. They do an excellent job keeping the games under control, especially given the reality that most of these boys and not yet developed into skilled athletes. They don't call every foul or violation, because the game would never be completed it they did that. They let the game go and try to allow everyone to have fun while they compete. Thanks to all the volunteers who coach, keep time and score, and maintain the facilities for the rest of us. Kudos to the parents for coming out and letting their kids play the game without parental interference. It is good to see everyone again this season.
