Just finished a 5 day stay at Newell Lodge right outside of Folkston, GA. This is a small resort tucked under old oak trees on a dirt road about 2 miles off of US 301. It's owned by a local family. They have individual cabins not rooms. Hubby and I shared a 2 bedroom cabin. Our had a full size bed and a twin bed and looked to sleep 3. The cabin was immaculately clean and had a fully functional kitchen. Decor is basic and includes satellite TV, but no WIFI. There's free WIFI in the office and I used my Verizon IPhone as a hotspot for my laptop without issue in our cabin. I just couldn't get over how beautiful the property was. How peaceful, quiet and well taken care of. It was the perfect place to stage our exploration of the Folkston side of the Okefenokee swamp. Newell lodge has its own restaurant (SwampFyre Bistro) which is open on Friday/Saturday night. They have delicious food there and are known for their mahi mahi and prime rib. Yes! We ordered both. It was delicious and I also had probably the best (and largest) Idaho baked potato in my life. They can host weddings and the office has a large conference room for business gatherings. We would not hesitate to go back. read more

I just returned to Atlanta yesterday after a magical mini vay-cay with another family and mine. We have college age boys. We rode the horses, devoured the scrumptious breakfasts, swung on the porch swings, rode the golf carts, admired the critters, gazed at the stars, and enjoyed staying at this fantastic cabin resort while visiting the local attractions of Cumberland Island, St Mary's, Okefenokee Swamp, and Fernandina Beach. The hospitality of the family that own and operate the lodge cannot be surpassed. They make a family feel welcome and loved. We will visit again soon. read more

Awesome. Relaxing. Stress Free. Some words that must be used to describe my experience at Newell Lodge. Nice off the beaten trail location but still close enough to services if you forgot to pack the marshmallows for the s'mores. I found this place by accident out on a motorcycle ride. Looked it up and found very little info. I sent an email to the reservation team (Mrs. Kay) and she responded in about 15 minutes. After a few email exchanges explaining my schedule and what I was looking for for my weekend in the country with my granddaughters Mrs. Kay took care of everything. We had a nice cabin. Horse back riding (Ms. Ashley is awesome with the kids) fishing, campfire, s'mores, etc... the girls were allowed to walk through the pasture and feed the horses carrots like they owned the place. Everyone at Newell was kind, friendly and the definition of Southern Hospitality. Newell lodge has cabins. Full service RV camper hook ups etc... if you are looking for that out of the way place to unplug and have some real family time, this is the place. If you want a full service resort with 500 people, go to Disney. I will post pics later. read more
