The barista coffee at this New World is surprisingly good. Getting a coffee at a supermarket is usually sort of a last resort, but my flat white could have held its own against any number of Palmy cafes. read more

Forgot to check if cheeses were local but was great display & choices! Blown away with their homemade quiches & pies. If we had a new world like this in Auckland I'd be there. I've rated 4 stars because of the speciality variety of foods that aren't available like that in Auckland supermarkets.

I really had a good time slowing walking the aisles identify items and see how much they were. There are two major supermarket chains in New Zealand: Foodstuffs (New World, Pak'n'Save, FourSquare) and Woolworths (Countdown). This was the second grocery store we visited on our cruise tour through NZ, and this one was significantly bigger. It pretty much had every item a traveler or local would need, and the prices were comparable to US prices (once accounting for the currency exchange). There were also quite a few Asian specific items, ones that I would only find in an Asian grocery store in the states. My brother was searching for very high UMF Honey and he found the place where it would be...but they were sold out. One thing to note was that they clearly kept their eggs in the unrefrigerated section.
