Went to New Mongolian BBQ several days ago with my partner. It was ok. Nothing particularly wonderful about it and nothing particularly bad. The beef was very grisly/fat, so I didn't bother with it. The pork and chicken were just fine, and I didn't try the lamb. The sauces seem watered down so it takes a LOT of them to get much flavor. The place is clean, and the veggies are fresh. We sat inside and the AC didn't seem to be working very well. I guess I was extremely spoiled by El Camino Mongolian BBQ and can't help but compare to how they were. read more

I have wanted to go here for a while! It was so great. You make your own combination of meat, veggies and sauces. You can have noodles or white rice. Also comes with egg rolls and ice cream. Really great for everyone. If you want to eat healthy, it's very easy to do. read more

I ate here a few years ago and because my fav Mongolian bbq place is now permanently closed-- I decided to come back and give this place another shot. I am amazed that I used 12 scoops of sauces (garlic, hot oil, curry, bbq and teriyaki) my food had no flavor. Strangest thing! They also do not have green onion. I've never eaten at any Asian place that does not have green onion... that's a staple. Only one guy was working and the line was long. The noodles were abnormally thick so they were rather chewy. I do feel my review echoes the other reviewers on the flavor; it's almost non existent despite the plate being so colorful. Food coloring maybe? The meat and baby corn looked old you can see it in my photo the chicken was sort of stringy. One positive thing is there is outdoor seating (this is in downtown Mountain View). The meat was not as fresh, I was excited to have some lamb in my food but regretted adding it to my dish. I didn't try the ice cream but it looked really good. This is a all you can eat place and every item is labeled neatly. This location does not order seafood. There is parking spots on the side of the street though during the weekend finding a parking spot can be challenging. read more

Hmm... I'm still unsure (and concerned) after my recent visit to this eatery. A lunch trip with coworkers led us here, and boy was it a trip. 1) This eatery does not boast the foot traffic of the fancy decor of other eateries on Castro St, but I tend to to judge a book by its cover, so we decided to try it out. 2) The shabby interiors (and a swarm of flies at the main door *shocked face emoji*) were overshadowed by my hunger so decided to get started. 3) The food seemed fresh (yes, the meats are frozen, but that's at every Mongolian bbq, so...) LOTS of veggies and sauces to choose from, so my appetite was pleased. 4) I tried switching noodles/rice with bean sprouts, AND I AM A FAN! (thus the two stars) 5) Preparation was fast, and end product was appetizing, but the environment was a let down. 6) As an egg-roll find, theirs were one of my least fav ever. 7) The ice cream machine was best if left untouched. The person cooking at the grill, told me to try some new sauces. Hence all my vegetarians items were cooked first and the taste was okay, not that great because the sauces didn't have any impact. For my 2nd round, there was a huge line, in front of me. The lady before me, she piled up huge amounts of meats and veggies..! My food ended up with small pieces of meat, because my food was cooked right after her food. This place may be good for meat eaters who don't care about their food with other pieces of meats but not for vegans because they cook all the meats and veggies on the same huge pan. The bill was around $20 without tip. There is no reason to visit again because there is nothing exciting in that style of cooking. P.S. Please use a separate pan for cooking vegetables. This place is much different than other restaurants. First of all, it's like a buffet line where you get to choose what you want to eat. Then, they take the plate and cook the raw ingredients right in front of you. After that, they will give it to you directly and you get to eat the dish you chose. A bit pricier than most other mongolian BBQ places, since it is on Castro St. I must have been craving egg rolls or something...these suckers are so deliciously good! (FYI there is no meat inside.) Came here on a Friday night around dinner time. The place was bustling, but luckily the 2 of us did not have to wait very long. We got in line, and packed our bowls with dry ingredients, and drenched it with sauce. +1 Fast lines and quick chefs! +1 The ingredients were constantly filled, and pretty fresh! (Minus the frozen meat) -1 Wish the food was cooked a bit more? I understand its a long line, so makes sense that they rushed the cooking a bit. They added a bit too much water too, so it really washes out the sauces I had put in initially LOL. +/-1 Service was fine! Came when we needed them (water, clear plates, and check). I first started going to Colonel Lee's Mongolian BBQ in the early 80s. Went consistently 6-10x a year for about 30 years. I moved out of the area a decade ago but on my visits I try to return to this place-- under the new name, New Mongolian which has very much remained true to its roots. If you're wondering if New Mongolian is open for outdoor dining during COVID and worth it, it certainly is!!!! It's not all you can eat anymore (thanks COVID) but for $12.99 and literally 2+ lbs of food, it was a STEAL. They give you a sheet of paper listing all the ingredients, and you mark off what you want. Everything is included. Super simple, delicious and filling!!! Highly recommend! I came here last week for the 1st time for a birthday dinner. This is a perfect all you can eat place. On weekend it is $20/person which I thought was well worth it because the food was great. You are able to get up and make your own plate. They have a variety of options to choose from to make your dish- from various meats, veggies, and noodles. They also have sides of rice and egg rolls as well. Once you have your bowl made, you hand it to the chef who cooks up your food on an an enormous stove. Your food is cooked within minutes and is very delicious. It is very filling, and if you didn't get enough the first time, you can always go back for more. And for dessert, they have a complimentary ice cream machine with cones available. I would definitely come back here again to enjoy some more delicious BBQ. read more

After choosing your meats you can choose from a variety of different veggies. After choosing your veggies you can choose how much noodles or rice you want with your meats. Then the best part choosing your sauces. Love the sauce options; you can either make up your own sauce with the many ingredient options they provide or use the different recommended recipes that they provide. They have chili oil. teriyaki sauce, vegetable oil, soy sauce, garlic, and many other options that you can pick from to make your sauce. After choosing your sauce options they cook everything on a large, round, solid iron griddle. You can go up as many times as you would like. Overall an average restaurant Located in the middle of downtown Mountain View, this place has been around for many years. From the outside it looks great, but the inside is pretty average. The tables are clean, which is nice. There is a "buffet" counter where you pick your meat and veggies, and then give it to the cook in the front who cooks the stuff you picked. The portions are ok, given that it's a buffet, but the price is definitely high, because most folks don't go back to "cook more". Everytime you pick something you have to wait for the cook to cook it, so unlikely regular buffets where all the food is served already cooked, here you tend to not go back to grab seconds especially when all the food at the station are raw and do not look enticing. The taste of the meat is ok. Pretty much what you'd expect at any average grill location. Just a bunch of meat and veggies stir fried together with a lot of sauce. There is a soft ice cream station, which I have to admit is pretty tasty. Not sure how they thought of that, but definitely a good idea on their part. I've never seen the place super busy, but I like it. It's reasonably priced for all-you-can-eat. You can get whatever ingredients, however much you want at the bar. Lots of options--tofu, baby corn, all the standard meats, zucchini, bean sprouts, mushrooms, cilantro, etc., an array of sauces (teriyaki, chili, garlic, BBQ, house, curry, etc etc)...I think anyone would be able to find SOMETHING they like at the bar. They have rice if you aren't into noodles (who isn't into noodles though???). They have egg rolls, and soft serve. I feel like there's something there for everyone. And I love food hot and fresh, and you get your bowl of goodies cooked to order right in front of you so you get to eat it piping hot and fresh. Out shopping for Christmas, we decided to try this place for lunch. I am so glad we did! Met at the door by very nice owner, quickly sat and she explained how it all worked and all the sauces and oils available. All of the meats, noodles and vegetables looked very fresh, the sauces and oils I tried were really good. Went back for 2nds even though I was full. Excellent Mongolian BBQ place in Mountain View. Their COVID system for ordering is very simple. They have slips of paper where you circle the type of meat, vegetables, noodles or rice, and sauces. The hostess checks your order and they cook everything to order within 10-15 minutes. I had the beef and lamb with noodles and rice. The flavors were excellent, very savory and hearty meal. I ordered both noodles and rice. The noodles are sauteed with the meat, veggies, and sauce and the rice comes on the side. They also gave us vegetarian egg rolls as well. The food is simple, but delicious and can be customized to your tastes. The hostess was very nice and we sat outside in front of the restaurant under a nice heat lamp. I get an email from Ms Compliance Officer titled 'Refrigerators are getting pretty dirty', inviting me out to lunch, with my old Boss tagging along, to Mongolian BBQ on Castro in Mountain View, 1130am on Friday. The boss says I can bring my wife as long as my handler has me on a leash and muzzled! I ask the wife if she wants to come, and she says yes, until I say that she might have to clean out two refrigerators used by 42 coworkers afterwards. The wife reconsiders, and says thanks but no thanks. I drive over and get there at 11:15am, with the next door restaurant Crepes Wine packed, and Mongolian BBQ virtually empty. Should I go in ahead of time, and start the all you can eat lunch? I decide to wait, me in T shirt, shorts, and white crisscross thin strap sandals, until my two coworkers arrive, in leather shoes, long khakis and dress shirts. So they are a little late -good enough for government work! And could you guess who is still working!? So only 2 of my co-workers come out on a Friday to have lunch with me! Well it's a Friday, and only a handful of the 42 co-workers are at the office -the others are telecommuting, and hopefully not playing hooky! Those who are the office know my reputation for roasting fellow co-workers in my previous Yelp reviews, and are shaking in their shoes, at the prospect of eating lunch with me! Mongolian BBQs are all set up the same way: you get up and stand in the food line, and fill up your bowls with raw uncooked vegetables and meats -chicken, beef, lamb and pork. At the end of the line, you present your bowls to the cook, who pan fries the ingredients with your choice of sauce, over a huge oversize hot heating frying pan. The cooked food is then piled onto a plate for you to eat, right out of the fryer. At 11:35am there are only two people ahead of us in line, with one guy demonstrating how to pile on the food far higher than the rim of the bowl. I fill one bowl with an assortment of still thin strips of still frozen chicken, beef and pork, and the other bowl with noodles, bean sprouts, broccoli crowns, onions, cucumbers and other vegetables. I don't want to look like I'm gorging so I don't pile it too high, thinking I will come back for seconds. Big mistake! The cook takes my two bowls, and tosses them on one corner of the frying tray, turns them over constantly, and 90 seconds later, voila, lunch is served, pushing the cooked contents into a clean plate. Hopefully the chef remembers to clean off the metal cooking surface before the next customer's food is cooked. We get a table outside, ask for water, and get our bill for $30 plus tax for 3 adults -children 9 and under are charged $7 for lunch. I guess they found out the hard way how much those children 10-12 can eat! And no senior discount for us old farts -the Boss is celebrating his 60th later this month, just a few months after Ms Compliance Officier's 50th! The vegetables are fresh, and with the sauce and cooked meats, taste delicious. And they did cook the chicken long enough -no stomach aches, at least not for me, afterwards! Meanwhile, the line of customers grows, until it extends far back into the restaurant. They have three bingo type communal tables, each row of 10, so they can fit 60+ people inside, and this Friday they are packed. A second chef comes and helps with the cooking, with the line still increasing. It's all you can eat, but you can only pile on so much into two bowls, and they don't leave a lot of meat outside for you to load up on. So you have to leave some for the people behind you. And coming back for seconds is not plausible, given the length of the line, and the time it takes to cook the food for 70 people in line, at this one station. Next time I come here for Mongolian BBQ, make sure to come at 11am sharp, and pile on the meats as high as possible -you can ask for rice on the side. We do some small talk, about the deteriorating state of hygiene in the work refrigerators, and I bring out my water bill summary for the year, showing that I've used 26 gallons of water per day, whereas Ms Compliance Officer , aka water hog, has used 750 gallons of water per day. I do load up on 5 egg rolls and two whipped ice cream mini cones. I can stay for seconds if I'm willing to wait for the line, now down to about a dozen people, to shrink. But my co-workers still have to work for a living, unlike some of us! We all head for the office afterwards, where I also have to work for a living -in this case the lunch comes with having to clean out two refrigerators for my 42 co workers -you don't really think there is such a thing as a free lunch! The last ex-employee who came back to the office, was thrown into the overnight pokey, so I have to make sure I'm invited, free lunch or not! The boss says they haven't processed the paperwork to issue a stay away notification for me. Not yet! read more

New Mongolian BBQ is one of the better Mongolian BBQ places in the South Bay. It's a nice, clean restaurant with fresh veggies, and decent meat options. My wife and I went to New Mongolian BBQ last night for dinner after we struck out at a few other places. At $11.99 per person for dinner (I think it's only $9 for lunch), it's not a bad deal at all. It also comes with unlimited vegetable egg rolls, soup, rice, and soft serve. The meat options included chicken, pork, lamb, and beef, and the quality of the meat is better than other Mongolian BBQ places we've been to (i.e. Gobi in San Jose). Taking a look at the veggies, they also looked a lot fresher as well. Broccoli, onions, large cut mushrooms, bean sprouts, carrots, cilantro, tofu, etc. They also had a wide assortment of sauces - house special, teriyaki, curry, soy sauce, chili oil, sweet and sour, etc. The one thing that I really like about New Mongolian BBQ is that they don't overcook your items. I hate going to Mongolian BBQ places where they make the meat so tough to eat because they cook it for way too long. The cooks at this location did a really great job at making sure that the meat was still tender, and that it was cooked just right. We finished off our meal with some soft serve, and with tax and tip for 2 people, we paid a total of $30.00. We had two servings of cooked plates with quite a few egg rolls and soft serve. Well worth the price we paid. Will definitely be coming back for more. My only real complaint is that they don't have enough servers to ask for rice, soup, extra napkins, etc. Also, there were a lot of middle schoolers there (might be because it was summer break) that were crowding around and being a disturbance to the rest of the clientele who were trying to have dinner.
