Pleased with their work until they ghosted us (and a neighbor). Last year (2022) New Leaf did some work for a neighbor, who was pleased with the work and recommended them to us. In the fall we had New Leaf do some work for us (flagstones, stone border, design and plantings) and were also pleased with their work. This spring we wanted to have them do some additional work, and were communicating via e-mail to receive a quote. Suddenly all communication stopped and they no longer responded to e-mails or phone calls. They did a large and expensive re-landscaping job at my home. Part of the job was to kill 2 invasive plants (mint and amsonia). The pricing including killing these plants. They were not able to kill the plants. The returned once or twice to try and deal with the invasive plants, but did not succeed. They walked away from dealing with this issue and I was forced to hire someone else, costing me more money. I could not recommend this service. read more

New Leaf Landscaping's NOISE POLLUTION is the most egregious of any company I have heard, and they refuse to limit the number of machines they use at once and will not return my calls. We work from home, and, for example, today they just used five machines simultaneously for two hours right outside our windows because we live in Southern Village in Chapel Hill and our houses are packed in tightly together. I have asked them to use one machine at a time. Nope. I watch a guy today take ten minutes to blow one leaf across the grass to get under a bush, and then he accidentally blew it back out and started over. TWO HOURS STRAIGHT, and sometimes they take longer. Do not hire this company. They are the worst and rudest and egregious contaminators of the environment because they don't bend up to pick up a leaf. Also, it's sick that they allow their employees to be exposed to this much noise pollution. Just sick. Their employees, at least the ones I have spoken with, are immigrants who have no choice but to do as New Leaf says. They are going to be deaf, but NEW LEAF DOES NOT CARE. They also have their employees spraying roundup with NO protective gear all summer long. It's horrible exploitation. read more

Terrible communication after investing $1000s of dollars with them to mulch and seed/aerate our grass. They do not come when they say they are going to come. We are on a monthly service plan and some months they don't come at all and I have to hound them down through calls and emails to remind them to come. My hope in hiring a landscaper on a monthly pan was to completely take landscaping services off my plate, but i find myself concerned and worried about whether they are going to show up or not more than I'd like. They also have skipped areas of grass and have missed key areas of lawn during recent cuts. Uriel Vega is very nice, but does not return e-mails or return quotes in a timely manner if at all. When I want additional work done, I have to call multiple times. I really want to support this organization as I value my relationship with them, but it's been very disappointing to say the least. read more

New Leaf has done a lot of work for my husband and me over the years, and we love it all. They added a deck to the back of our house, cleared out trees and built a patio with a walkway, and have maintained the landscaping in our front yard for several years now. Rick and Whitney are always helpful, and the flowers and plants they select are varied and beautiful. I've heard they are a little pricier than some other places, but they provide working visas for their non-US citizen employees, which is awesome, but not cheap. So to me, you get what you pay for, and they are well worth it. I highly recommend New Leaf! read more

I am not one to write negative reviews, but due to the extreme lack of customer service and professionalism New Leaf Landscaping exhibited, I felt the situation warranted a review. Although New Leaf Landscaping has been around for a while and I see they have some positive reviews, I had an extremely negative experience. There are too many details to go into them all, but this is a somewhat brief synopsis of what happened: I saw a New Leaf Landscaping truck in my neighborhood on 5/1/17 and talked with one of the owners, Mr. Whitney Schwab about possibly getting work done. Immediately after talking with Mr. Schwab, I made an appointment with Denise (receptionist) for the following day. No one showed up (she said she's not sure what happened and she thinks she didn't put it in the system). Several other things happened along the way (she didn't put the address in correctly and set up an appointment when no one was available to come out. She then never notified Mr. Uriel Vega (the person I was told that would come out to see what we needed done) that I called to re-schedule the appointment due to poor weather conditions. Mr. Vega showed up as my mom and I were leaving and we decided, since he was there, to show him what we needed to have done. He mentioned other people complained recently about issues with appointments. We thought things were going to go well as he seemed responsible and knowledgeable and indicated that New Leaf could handle what we needed to have done. He left and told us he would send a quote. Two weeks later and still no response. I called and Denise said she doesn't know what happened and that she would call me later that day. That didn't happen. One week later and still no response. Fast forward to June 12th. I call and speak with Rick (one of the owners) and bring him up to speed, hoping to move things forward. Rick said this is unusual and nothing like this has happened before and he would talk with Mr. Vega and get back to me later that evening or the next day. June 13th comes and no one calls, but I do get an email from Mr.Vega that evening with a quote. The email says nothing about all that's transpired. It only says "sorry for the delay." For the most part, the quote had nothing to do with what we discussed, but more of a generic quote of other things they do. It came across as a "brush off" quote. I called back today, June 14th and asked to speak with Mr. Schwab since I never heard back from Rick. I heard Rick in the background telling Mr.Schwab that it was the person with the long story and that he sent me an email today saying that Uriel would be emailing me a quote. That is a lie. I never received an email from Rick (not in my inbox or spam). When Mr. Schwab got on the phone, he was very dismissive, as well as short. He said Rick already told him everything and he didn't know why I was talking to him about it when I already told Rick. He then said that "we wanted small trees removed and that is out of the scope of what his company can do".This is not true. We have tiny trees starting to grow up (saplings) that can be dug up and Mr. Vega let us know they have machinery that can get these up without a problem. Mr. Schwab said Uriel was probably just sending a quote letting us know the things they could do (the quote only talked about hand weeding and trimming shrubs and removing leaves and didn't even discuss the mulch and pine straw we discussed doing with Mr. Vega). Mr. Schwab then said that Uriel told him you said "you were getting several more quotes" (that's not true) and that "Uriel probably thought it would just be better for you to go with another company". I then responded to Mr. Schwab with, "I don't know how to respond to that." Mr.Schwab then said he had a meeting he had to go to and with that...hung up the phone read more

Erratic. For ad hoc work, sometimes they showed up and did what they said they would when they said, and did it well. Other times they just didn't show up at all, and communicating with them was frustrating, with responses that were evasive. Maybe they were overwhelmed. Maybe they are better with regular service contracts. Maybe I should have looked elsewhere! read more

I have to add my voice to those previously posting as very dissatisfied with the failure to even respond to requests for service. We have had a lot of work done by this company when we first moved to Durham. They landscaped our backyard, put in a section of a fence, spread mulch over the backyard, and installed a water feature. With regard to this last, a pond with a waterfall, we had had them regularly clean it, which is an expensive proposition, but we wanted to keep it up and water healthy for the fish. Last spring and through the summer, we tried at least five times to get them to come over and to the spring cleaning. I tried calling the main number and talking with one of the office people who acted as if they would call us back to set up an appointment. Never happened. I wrote at least two emails to Whitney, the man in charge of maintenance services--never got an reply. I will never use this outfit again and will try to find a responsible company to service our pond. read more
