If you have mobility issues, let them know at booking time- as there would be great difficulty with the stairs & hallways if you had walking or balance issues. (Hint: Room #1 is larger and next to the front & the pub.) Clean room, modest furnishings, a bit worn, but clean. The bath had a small stand up shower, but the water was hot after a long day. TV, hairdryer, clothes iron, water kettle & tea service - all provided. Also the location is very close (short walk) to the city center and Salisbury Cathedral, with lots of eating & pub options. Morning breakfast buffet (extra) was good & filling, with hot fresh eggs, meats, cheeses, beans, toast, jellies/jam, juices, teas & coffee. Worth the dosh in my humble opinion. The bar was a nice snuggery, but the selection was limited in offerings. Go for convenience & location, and if the weather is good, eat in the courtyard and pet the feral but friendly black cat that roams the hotel. Overall, it wasn't a bad visit, and I'd probably stay again, but I'd much prefer a larger room in future. Recommended, but with care on room selection, B+

The clubs don't shut down until 3:30 AM and then all of the club goers hit the street for food, fighting and being loud. If they are staying in the hotel, they are loud in the hallways. It never ends. We got more sleep in our car than we did in the hotel room. Our rooms should have never been booked

Built around a large, early 19th Century house, rooms in the old house have traditional decor (some with 4-poster beds) whereas most of the rooms (a mix of doubles and twins) are in a modern annex, and are laid out with standard modern hotel layouts. These have TV, bathrooms with baths and showers, tea/coffee making facilities and controllable heating and air-conditioning. The decor is a little dated but in good condition. Our room was clean, and had comfortable, if slightly springy, beds. The shower was excellent and there was always plenty of hot water. There's a restaurant and function room in the newer extension and a comfortable bar located in the original house. There's a small Spa suite, which we didn't use. But we had dinner as part of a group which was perfectly good; breakfast was a buffet, with a reasonable selection of cereals, strong coffee, and (for a buffet) a good quality cooked breakfast (excellent mushrooms and sunny-side fried eggs). Staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, for the price, I'd happily stay here again. The only downsides were that the car park is small, and filled up quickly (a few of our party had to park off-site a short distance away); and although the WiFi speed was reasonable (35 Mbps), the signal kept dropping in and out in our room.

Reception was friendly and warm, staff have been polite and helpful. The bedroom was spacious and clean. A big four-poster bed was a little on the soft side, but husband said his was quite firm (we have different preferences obviously). There's wifi, an iPod dock, decent sized LG telly... So overall it's well kitted out. Ball-and-claw bathtub with bubbles and jets (never seen that combination before), as well as a spacious shower and lots of natural light. We had a good breakfast with all that you could desire from Continental to American options, and the local options in between. Remember Wiltshire means bacon so you have to have some !

Unfortunately, we had the worst night's sleep of our week long trip. I booked The Legacy Rose and Crown several months in advance of our trip, and when we checked in, we were told there was a party taking place that night. When we returned to our hotel after dinner and went up to our room, it seemed that we were located directly above the restaurant where the party was being held. Although the music was right in line with my tastes, we were really hoping for a good night's sleep since we had to be on the road at 7AM, but sleep wasn't to be had since the music continued until midnight. I pulled my ear plugs out of my bag and turned on a noise machine, but even that wasn't enough to block out the pounding bass. Honestly, the hotel should not have even rented room we were in on that date considering the noise below. If we had stayed at this hotel on a different night, I think our experience would have been much better - it's clean, pretty, and convenient to the cathedral and other sites. The staff was very friendly and gave us bagged lunches since we were checking out before breakfast. I wish I could leave a better review, but since the primary purpose of a hotel is to provide sleeping accommodations and we weren't able to get much sleep, two stars it is.

Coaches usually arrive in Salisbury around midday, discharge their passengers at St. Anne's Gate, and usually allow them 90 minutes in the city. So, it follows that, if you'd rather eat than look around the Cathedral, you need somewhere close, and the White Hart Inn, about 200 metres away, fits the bill perfectly. We found the carvery lunch most suitable for our purposes. They start serving at 12.30, which gave us ample time for a drink and a chat in the bar before lunch. The choice on this day was lamb, turkey or both. We found the lamb a little gristly, but not enough to complain about but the turkey more than made up for it. The vegetables were steamed just the way I like them; warm, but still al dente. You have the option of a starter or a dessert, if you wish; prices are based on how many courses you want. But, we just had the main course, for none of us like a full, 3-course meal through the day. So, if you only have a short stay in Salisbury, the White Hart is certainly worth considering for a quick, reasonable, inexpensive meal.

While this is an older property that could use some updated touches, the key here is the location. Right in the center of town, which has very limited parking, near the cathedral and the town shopping center. Yes, you don't get all of the modern touches in the rooms, no A/C could be an issue late in the summer season, but, the location is center city and the hotel has it's own parking lot. This hotel, for it's age is clean and well maintained. One additional note: The hotel staff was very attentive, Morning and evening meals were included for our group. Our salmon dinners were excellent as well as the mushroom soup and that was a surprise given the nature of so many hotel restaurants.

After a 20+ minute wait, it all arrived together with the rationale 'we didn't know if you wanted the bar nibbles first or not, so we just brought it all together'. Just ask me - is that so hard? The scampi (all 7 pieces) were very disappointing and obviously frozen from a packet, not fresh. It was entombed in rock hard crumb coating and was wet and soggy inside (some even released a flood of watery liquid when cut open). The chips (also from frozen) were tasteless and pale. I could have had the same, courtesy of Iceland foods, for a fraction of the price. Service, while pleasant, was slow. In short, overpriced and underwhelming.

Well, one does try at least). The bangers and mash was generous with plenty of gravy, tasty and juicy sausages; the fish and chips comprised of a nice piece of haddock, crisply fried, and surprisingly good mushy peas which tasted much better than it sounded. Oh, and the drinks were good too!
