We decided to sit inside as it was a little breezy outside. As usual, you order your food and drinks at the bar, and tell them your table number so they know where to deliver your food. My friend ordered the soup of the day (Red Pepper)and the Steak Pie with Chips. I had the Steak Pie as well, but I asked them if they could sub a salad for the chips, and they were happy to do that. The steak pie was great. The puff pastry was light and flakey and the meat was fork tender. It came with gravy, so that was a nice addition. The salad was very fresh and lightly dressed with simple vinaigrette. As for drinks, I had a Sauvignon Blanc and it was nice and crisp. Could be a little colder but it was just what I needed. They have Titanic cask ales, Cider and cocktails too. This place is one of Titanic Brewery's pubs, so it carries the whole line of Titanic's beers. If you're in this spa town, I'd recommend this place. They have good food and beer, and the staff is very friendly!

Popped in on the way back from a cold day out at Alton Towers…read more We got a lovely warm welcome, were quickly seated near a roaring fireplace and settled in for a great meal accompanied by some very well kept Hartington IPA. The pub is cosy and friendly, and in a great location for walkers and cyclists on the Tissington trail. When I visited on a Saturday noon, the place was packed. And for good reason: The "rustic sharing board" (effectively a ploughman's lunch) I had was both generous and tasty, with a small pork pie, a Scotch egg, two slices of honey-roasted gammon, a big helping of local cheese, cut-up sausages, various sauces and pickles and a few slices of rather appetizing roasted white bread. I had a look around at other people's dishes and they all looked very good, too. The bar staff was friendly and efficient, and while Joseph Holt beers may not represent the pinnacle of British ales, they are well-made and were certainly kept fresh on the premises. Prices are pretty much what you would expect from a superior regional pub/restaurant, but there are several specials throughout the week. The décor is very much geared towards families: unfussy, clean, comfortable. Recommended!

Super tasty quality food, I noticed that on the menu it even tells you which farm the meat came from, or where the ice cream was made etc. The Greek Lamb and the Gammon are both brilliant. The portions are huge and I'm always left with enough food for another meal but save room for the Holly Bush sundae because you wont ever have a such a selection of tasty locally made ice cream :) The prices are great too, last time I went it was around 30quid for the 2 of us.
