I brought an elderly friend from Florida, staying with us for a week, to Dr. Robertson because it appeared to me that his hearing aids just weren't helping him much. Within ten minutes, she had assessed, using digital aids (yes, she has up to date equipment), that he was hearing only 50%-70% of what he should be hearing. By the time we left an hour later, he was so much more animated, having conversations with us that he couldn't have had before we saw her, that it was amazing. I am a health care professional; this visit reminded me that some health care professionals are better than others. Dr. Robertson is excellent.

After receiving my new hearing aids, unlike all other audiologists I have dealt with over the past 40+ years, he was incapable of adjusting them to adequately compensate for my severe hearing loss -- even after several return visits to achieve that goal. Finally, I had to request that he set my new hearing aids to the adjustment profile of my old hearing aids, a profile that was created by Noelle Paradis, a competent audiologist previously employed at Alliance Hearing Center. Furthermore, after bringing back one of the aids for warranty repair, an aid that had been previously sent for warranty repair and was returned fixed after only 12 days, he slow-walked the 2nd repair, and I had to do without my hearing aid for 31 days! In my opinion, he slow-walked it because I had the audacity to complain that four days after dropping it off for repair, he still had not sent it back to Oticon for the warranty work. In fact, when I phoned to ask about its status, I was informed by his habitually rude and snotty receptionist that he "wore it on his glasses for eight hours" and had not heard any of the annoying, randomly occurring series of beep sounds indicating an error in the aid's operation; thus, implying that I was a liar and/or an idiot, and that he wouldn't be sending it for repair, because apparently I had nothing better to do than waste my time initiating false warranty repair requests that would result in my suffering the loss of an aid for the necessary time to repair it. I had to promise him a bad Google review if he didn't send it for repair in order to get the aid fixed, resulting in his suspected use of cheap snail mail instead of express shipping and the ensuing 31 day wait. Over 40+ years, I've had several aids repaired, and not once did it take more than two weeks. Now I use Brattleboro Hearing Center in Swanzey, NH, where the audiologist Audiologist Karen Dale displayed competence and the receptionist Tina was the epitome of cheerful professionalism.

They were always tight, but not painful so I had never noticed. When I reached out to Professional Audiology (and finally got through because the Portsmouth office doesn't always pick up the phone) they told me that they only follow the manufacturer's warranty and that I need to buy new ones for another $250. When I asked them to reconsider since they had made faulty ear molds in the first place they digitally screamed at me in multiple CAPS emails that they were out of warranty and that I was being unreasonable. Worst customer service ever. They were unwilling to listen, consider, and respond calmly. Very disappointing. And now I'm out ear plugs or $250. Cool.

Before I get into my issue with this office, I must say this: The doctor I saw did a great job. I…read morewent in with a very painful ear infection and the care he gave me was competent and effective. If the care I received were all I had to talk about, I would give this business a much higher rating. However, I was extremely disappointed with how this office handled my billing. I am uninsured and very low-income, so before I went in to the office, I contacted them via e-mail to ask how much their services would cost me. I was told that it "shouldn't be more than $150." I was able to pay that, so I went in to the office, where I was asked to sign a document in which I agreed to pay $150 up front. I paid this and went in to see the doctor. When I came out of the doctor's office I was given a piece of paper listing what I had paid in cash and the service I had come in for. The way this sheet was laid out made it look as if the service I received had cost the $150 I paid. At no point during any of these three above-mentioned discussions did anyone indicate that I still owed the office money. A month later I got a bill for $163. The $150 I had put down apparently had covered the cost of my procedure, but only $20 of the "new patient" fee. Again, no one had even indicated to me that any such fee existed or that I would be charged after leaving the office. Because I need to budget for each of my bills, I wasn't able to pay this bill, and I went in to the office to complain. Now, I admit I was hoping they would cancel the bill, but even though they didn't, I might have been mollified if they had at least apologized for the lack of clarity in their billing process. Instead, I was told by two different people that it was, essentially, not their fault, because the ladies at the front desk had no way of knowing what the doctors' fees would be. This in itself seems like a problem with their billing procedures, but either way, I don't believe it could prevent them from at least telling me that there would be an additional bill coming. Instead, I feel as if this bill was snuck on me, because they didn't want to tell me they were sending me a bill without being able to tell me what it would be. On top of this, when I spoke to the lady at the front desk, she said that the visit fee could have been up to $400, a sort of "be glad it's only this" attitude that seems like entirely the wrong approach to a client's complaint about a bill. All in all, the trouble with their billing process pretty much balances out the quality of the doctors' care, especially for me, since I don't have the money to easily handle sudden $160 bills. If you do, or better yet, if you're insured, then by all means visit this office. Otherwise, just keep in mind that you'll need to keep an eye on your wallet.

They are very knowledgable, and great "bed side manner." They return questions via phone promptly, and if something is urgent always seem to squeeze you in. And whichever doctor you see, they are all wonderful.
