A lovely place tucked away from the hustle and bustle of life. I went on a whim because I was…read morereading a book that had a monk as a character. It made me curious whether there was a monastery near me. First stop was at the Visitor Center where I watched the 20 minute video that gave the monastery's history and a sense of the daily lives of the monk. Afterward, I checked out the exhibition which gave the history of monasticism and concluded in the barn. The exhibition in this space reinforces the 20 minute video. Then I meandered outside to take the "contemplative walk" to the church (that's what its called) which took about 5-7 minutes. The i side of the church is beautiful in its simplicity. You can't really wander in here as they have a wooden barrier that blocks off visitor access. I sat in one of the pews and took in the beauty of the church and the stained glass window. Then I took the contemplative walk back to the Visitor Center and the Abbey Gift shop and cafe. On the walk, I was accompanied by a young man who was there for one of the retreats. We chatted and it was lovely. The gift shop is great offering plenty of books on various religious topics and other items like crosses, rosaries, coffee mugs, and homemade goods. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and highly recommend especially for those wanting to learn the history or enjoy the beauty of nature or to contemplate whatever is going on in their life. I will definitely be back as I'm interested in their retreats. As a writer, I like the idea of being in nature and a quiet space to create.

They are not judgemental or gossip-y and everyone is always so happy to see you. Whether you're walking in the door for the very first time or you grew up there, you are valued and treated extremely well by everyone you pass in the halls. The worship team is also amazing! There is so much talent in this church and it is beautiful to see them put so much time, effort, and passion into worshiping Jesus. I was blown away the first time I heard them and they've never once disappointed me. Sharon is a fantastic place for families as well. The kids church is well staffed with kind, loving people who protect those kids as if they're their own. The kids get to play, sing songs, eat healthy snacks, and learn about Jesus in a warm, safe environment while their parents are at service. If your baby is fussy or nervous, you can trust that he or she will be held and comforted and treated with lots of love and care. It's truly beautiful. But the best thing about this church is pastor Jeremy. His energy, his passion for the Word of God, and his ability to teach using vibrant and descriptive language will keep you fully engaged throughout the entire service. My husband says that Jeremy is the first pastor he's ever seen who doesn't put him to sleep lol. We always leave feeling like we've truly learned something and have a better grasp on the Word. Jeremy has a true calling on his life and he is doing exactly what God put him on this earth to do. If you're new to the McDonough area, looking for a new church home, or looking to learn more about Christ and what it really means to be a Christian, please come visit Sharon. You will be warmly welcomed and I promise you won't regret it!

I haven't actually been to the church, just out in the recreational area. We like to take bird seed…read moreover to feed the ducks and geese at the pond. They are very accustomed to humans and will walk right up to you as if you're a farmer and they're your animals you feed everyday. We spent about 40 minutes feeding animals and in that time, we attracted all the animals we could see: 14 geese, 6 ducks, and 8 turtles. I appreciate that there are signs posted suggesting the type of food to bring/not bring for the ducks. There's also a place for people to recycle their fishing lines and netting so it doesn't disturb the animals. There's a paved walking loop around the pond that seems to get heavy use, and there are covered tables and a little playground area. If you're looking to get outside with a family full of people with different interests and ability levels, this is a free and open space where everyone can wander about and find something to get into. I only removed a star because there are no restrooms and we had a potty emergency. So, timing the bathroom needs is extremely important.

I had passed by it several times before and saw that it had a lake and a play ground area for the kids. We stayed for almost two hours. When we decided to leave all the gates to the park were locked and we could not get out the gate we had entered in. We drove to another entrance where we were confronted by a very angry man who accused us of illegally trespassing on the property. There were several other cars there so we had no idea what he was talking about. He said it was private property and we had no right to open the locked gate and let ourselves in. I explained to him the other entrance was opened and that's how we got in. He yelled at me and called me a liar. He says the gate is always locked. I explained to him that it wasn't and that's how we got in. I told him I too was a Christian and would not open a locked gate to get in anywhere. There's no need to. There are too many other parks around. He told me if I was a Christian to go to my own church and walk. He said a lot of other very demeaning things, but I politely asked him to move his vehicle so that we can leave and we promise to never return. These are the last days we are living in. My grand children witnessed a person who claimed to be from the church on the property basically cuss me out and accuse me of opening a gate that was already opened when I entered it. There were 2 other cars in that parking lot when we parked. Maybe that should have been a sign to me but it wasn't. I saw people walking and parked on the other side so I thought it was ok. This man is not representative of a child of God and owes my family an apology. I dare to say if I was white , he would not have accused me of lying or knowingly trespassing. But I will not play the race card. I will play the Christian one, because he deeply disregarded another child of God and was a poor witness to me and my grandchildren. I was so hurt by this encounter. I close with this... And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Matthew 25:40 Ginger
