The pastor teaches with enthusiasm, and does not spend time pointing out what's wrong with all the other denominations. I read a previous review which was very negative, but that was not the current pastor. He's very connected to other ministers of various kinds in the area, and in fact, many are good friends and a support group for each other. Oakside is a smallish congregation that is growing and open to the Holy Spirit in worship and teaching. There's a clear love for people in the community, as evidenced by the ministries that the church does regularly. There's a nursing home ministry group, a Christian radio station (WOAK 90.9FM), outreaches to the teachers and athletes of Troup High School which is just across the road from the church, to name a few. Just recently there was a First Responders Sunday which required a lot of effort and planning to minister specifically to first responders and their families. It's a great place to come and be loved and nurtured. The teaching is excellent, very deep. It gives me something to think about all week and really challenges me to examine my own heart and thoughts so I can grow in my relationship with Christ. My teens all tell me that they enjoy the teaching for the same reasons.

Despite the fact that his message focused soley on politcal issues, and very little on Biblical information or dissection, he continued to reiterate his opinion by dismantling the doctrinal values of not only other denominations, but other Baptist churches as well. I would never consider moving my membership to a church that promotes itself on such arrogant grounds. I am not from LaGrange, and I do not know the history nor the doctrinal grounds of the other churchs (from what I was told 80-something) in this area, and I am not familiar enough to be able to decide whether this pastor's claims were accurate. However, because of such an arrogant, prideful, and distasteful presentation I would much rather attend a church with a less judgemental, and genuinely welcoming vibe.

Placed a call this morning for help with a utility bill and was told under no uncertain terms if I was not a member of their church, or a member of another church or friends with a member of their church they would not help in aiding me with keeping my utilities from being turned off. No compassion or soul... If I could submit without selecting a star rating, or if I could give a negative star, I would. I used to praise how this church treated ppl, I regret that now.

I always find myself encouraged, challenged, and enlightened. There are several churches in the location, but this one definitely does not get overlooked. They also have some great community ministries and outreaches such as Fall Festivals, and Feast - which is a College ministry offering a free meal on Monday nights to 18-30 somethings. The people are so wonderful. Not to sound super cliche and cheesy, but you really do find a family when you go to Spring Road. (Cue "oohs" and "ahs") If you happen to live in the LaGrange, Valley, or Auburn area, I definitely recommend checking it out.

Just the name of that church conjures up all sorts of images in our mind. It was a church that was tepid, bored, and apathetic-overconfident in their own spiritual condition. In short, they were lukewarm. And, as we all know, Jesus told them plainly, "Because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth" (Rev 3:16) Spiritually speaking, the Laodicean church could be summarized in a single word that (unfortunately) captures the ethos of our modern culture: "Whatever." The problem, of course, with being apathetic is that you can actually be apathetic about your apathy! Put simply an apathetic church does not think it is that big of deal. But, here are some reasons apathy is a bigger deal than we think: 1. Apathy towards Christ can be more dangerous than enmity towards Him. The fundamental reason people miss the problem of apathy is because they assume its better than being an enemy of God. It's halfway to being committed, they think, and thus better than being against God. It's a step in the right direction. But, Jesus disagrees. For him, apathy (at least in some ways) is worse than enmity towards God. "Would that you were either cold or hot!" (3:15). It is actually the "whatever" type of person sitting in the pew that is hardest to reach. Why? Because they say to themselves, "I need nothing" (3:17). As the author George MacDonald once said: "Complaint against God is far nearer to God than indifference about Him." 2. Apathy towards Christ is the religion of our age. Another factor that makes an apathetic church a problem is that it feeds our culture's perception that religion is best in moderation. Ironically, while Jesus says apathy is the worst spiritual condition, our culture contends that it is the best! For the most part, mainline churches in modern America are actually aiming for the middle ground. They want enough religion to be respectable, but to not so much that they are viewed as zealots. Parents tell their children that they shouldn't be atheists, but, at the same time, they tell them not to take this religious thing too far. Lukewarm religion is actually the goal. In a culture like this, the last thing the evangelical church needs to do is to feed this misunderstanding. This is why John Stott thinks that the letter to Laodicea may be one of the most important for the modern church: Perhaps none of the seven letters is more appropriate to the twentieth century church than this. It describes vividly the respectable, sentimental, nominal, skin-deep religiosity which is so widespread among us today. Our Christianity is flabby and anemic, we appear to have taken a lukewarm bath. 3. Apathy towards Christ is out of sync with his worthiness. The core problem with Christian apathy, the thing that makes it so serious, is the thing we are apathetic about, namely the person of Christ. There is an enormous disparity between the glory, wonder, and beauty of Christ and our bored, tepid, "whatever" sort of response to him. And it is this sizable gap between what Christ is worth and our lackluster reaction to him that makes apathy such a problem. And that sort of gap raises serious questions about a person's spiritual health and vitality. For example, if someone found themselves at a middle school art fair, it would be fairly understandable if they found themselves bored and unimpressed with the quality of the art. But, if that same individual stood in the Sistine Chapel and looked up at the wondrous work of Michelangelo and was still bored, then there would be something seriously wrong with them. Simply put, apathy is a problem because it misses the whole point of Christianity: the greatness of Christ. In the end, these three factors remind us that apathy is a bigger problem than we think. So what can be done about it? Christ himself gives the answer in his letter to Laodicea: "I counsel you to buy from me" (3:18). A renewed vision of the beauty and greatness of Christ is always the ultimate cure for apathy. And Christ invites his people to experience him afresh: "Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me" (3:20). In this verse, Christ is drawing on the Song of Solomon, presenting himself as the groom and his church as the bride. And he is asking his church to fall in love with him all over again.

My life changed at Teaver Road Baptist Church (TRBC). A few years ago, my little girl was invited…read moreto TRBC kid program by a friend from our neighborhood. She really enjoyed the Church tremendously. What's unique about that, is that my wife and I did not attend Church. See, I grew up in Church, but was lost to follow up during college. I enjoyed the party scene. My wife and I would use Wednesday nights to have a date night, so using the Church as our free baby sitter. Surprisingly, my little girl woke up on one Sunday morning, came to me and said she wanted to go to Church. My wife and I got ready, and presented ourselves to Church. My wife, not having grown up in Church did not know what to expect. Well the worship was OK as I was use to hymns, but their type of worship was more of what I liked - Rock-n-Roll, of course without the big hair, well except the drummer. Ben - the Pastor - spoke an encouraging word, not one of damnation if you are a sinner, but one of we all are sinners and are working through our sins together. What set this church apart from anything that I had witnessed in the past, or what I had remembered as a kid and early teenager, is the offering. Ben plainly stated that the Church was not hunting money, that if you are a visitor, please just visit, that its not expected to put anything in the offering plate. See a lot of Churches don't care if you gain anything from the service as long as you put your money in the offering plate. Not TRBC, he plainly states this at every service, just come and enjoy Christ, the rest works itself out. Many Churches have lost this concept and are willing to pay pastors HUGE sums of money from that offering plate, not TRBC!!! They just want you to come and know you are welcome no matter how much or little money you have. Well needless to say, we continued with TRBC, and I have grown in Christ. My little girl and beautiful wife were both SAVED on the same day, and then Baptized the same day as well. I am so thankful to TRBC for what it did in my life, and for all the persons that go to Teaver Road. They are such a great group of people who care about you and want to walk with you in learning about Christ. I thank God everyday for Teaver Road Baptist Church that I will now be able to spend eternity with my little girl and wife!!!!
