If you want to see Jim Morrisons grave take a guided tour. This is a huge cemetery, the largest in Europe and there is a lot of other interesting things there as well. Our biggest mistake was not taking a photo of the map as soon as we entered. We ended up bumping into a couple of Americans with a map so we ended up getting a snap of theirs. We didn't really have a solid plan. All I knew was that I wanted to see Jimmy and that's it. We ended up on quite the adventure finding Jimmy. It seemed like we walked in circles. The great thing about this cemetery is that there are so many famous people interred here. And many notable families. With that said, you'll see some elaborate tombstones. You do see a few employees walking the grounds. They all walk around during closing time, ringing their bells to let you know they're about to close so you better skidaddle or you'll be locked in. I'm going to do a walking tour the next time I'm in town so I can cover more ground. I'm always so overwhelmed when I'm there It is however super sad to see the graves that are clearly unattended, sometimes looking like they've been abandoned.

One of the highlights of my trip was walking around Montmartre Cemetery. The Montmartre Cemetery…read moreis the third largest cemetery in Paris, after the Père Lachaise Cemetery and Montparnasse Cemetery. There are many famous people buried there (most who I have never heard of), including Edgar Degas; Alexandre Dumas, fils; Émile Zola; and Antoine-Joseph "Adolphe" Sax, the inventor of the saxophone. The cemetery is huge, and it's a nice, relaxing place to go for a walk -- as good as any park. The grounds were well maintained, but not overly manicured -- I loved the wild look of grass and plants growing everywhere -- and it was interesting to see all the different grave stones and mausoleums. The best part, though, were the cats! There are several cats that live in the cemetery, and my husband and I had fun trying to spot them. I even managed to briefly pet one! We spent just over an hour in the cemetery, but I could easily have walked around for another hour. Other things to note: the cemetery is free to enter, and while there were washrooms, they weren't great. There is a wheelchair accessible entrance at Avenue Rachel, but not all parts of the cemetery are accessible due to the uneven terrain and the stairs needed to access parts of the cemetery.
