Museums range from being exciting and interactive to boring and unappealing. The Nepean Museum seems to fall under the latter.
The museum is tucked into a residential area just off Meadowlands Drive. This has a lot to do with its dismal attendance. If it were located on a major route there would likely be more people stopping in, but that simply isn't the case. You can go to the museum on most days and not see anyone but the staff.
With that being said the staff is dedicated to keeping the museum running. Whether it is frequented or not, there are always new exhibits going up and being tweaked. Nepean is limited in its content, so some exhibits are a bit far reaching, but Nepean also has its fair share of notable people so there are some great finds at the museum from time to time. Example: Astronaut Steve MacLean is from Nepean and has donated and lent NASA and space related pieces to the museum in the past.
Newly renovated, the museum does have more room than it used to and despite the lack of walk-in public, there are workshops held for children fairly frequently.
If you are form the Nepean area and want to know more about the area's history, by all means stop on by. If you're not from the area, you'll probably get bored quickly.
It serves its purpose, and that is being the historical place of record for the area. read more
