Oh truly a top competitor for best bakery in San Diego!! I…read morevisited on a Thursday morning right at 8 to grab breakfast for my coworkers. there was already a line forming!!! So get there early. Service is great, they don't rush you at all. All of the pastries are laid out for whatever you want them to grab. I got regular croissants, chocolate croissants, and their seasonal raspberry croissant. I personally only had the raspberry one but my coworkers LOVED the others! I also got an iced vanilla latte and it was DELICIOUS - very bold and strong! I would definitely visit again.

When I saw one that worked with my schedule, I clicked in to see what they had to offer. Prices are quite high, $7-9 per pastry on average, and they had a good mix of sweet and savory, classic and unique flavors. I ordered three pastries: charcuterie danish, Kenyan chicken stew croissant, and lamb rillette spiral croissant. There was a fast turnaround for pickup, as I could only select dates from the next day. Their kitchen is located in a more commercial part of Mira Mesa, and parking was easy. When I walked in, I was a bit confused by the setup, as I stepped straight into a room full of baking supplies. I located the cabinet with pickups and grabbed my goodies. Very quick in and out. Overall, the pastry dough itself was fantastic across all three pastries. I air fried my pastries to warm them up before sampling them. My least favorite was the charcuterie pastry. The cured meat on top was very tough, possibly from being over-baked. I didn't really like how it paired with the apricot on top. Additionally, the top layer of the pastry was adhered to the toppings, and came off when I tried to cut or bite into it. The cheese rosette on top was cute but didn't add much to the flavor for me. The Kenyan chicken stew and lamb croissants were absolutely stunning. Both were not soggy and suuuuper flavorful. The ground lamb was tender and buttery, Since it is rolled throughout the croissant, you get some in each bite, the distribution is perfect. The Kenyan chicken stew is bold and spiced. There is a good amount of stew in the croissant cup, and the chicken was not tough. Paired with the buttery pastry, this was incredible. Overall, I enjoyed the pastries I ordered at Relic! They are incredibly pricy, and definitely an occasional treat, but worth it in my opinion.

Okay so my friends and I were on the hunt for somewhere new to try in the Convoy area and I had…read moreseen a reel of this place on IG and we all got so hyped about it. And let me tell you it did NOT disappoint!! We're all huge kbbq fans so getting to grill skewers right in front of us was such a fun new experience. We basically went crazy and ordered almost everything on the menu lol. The pork belly was so good and we also got the spicy beef, chicken gizzard, octopus, pork intestines, beef intestines and mushroom wrapped pork belly. We were lowkey worried we ordered too much but then ended up ordering even more because everything was just that good!! We also got some string beans and cucumbers for our veggies and a big bowl of spicy noodle soup which was so good. They even threw in some free side dishes which was such a nice touch. Our servers were awesome and super attentive too, they kept an eye on our skewers to make sure nothing got overcooked or caught on fire haha. The vibe inside was really fun too! Plenty of tables and chairs so there was enough room for our group and they had some upbeat music playing in the background. Honestly such a fun spot and I would 100% come back. Just a heads up though, parking can get pretty rough especially on busy weekends so try to get there early!!

I love anything on a skewer cooked over an open flame. After wandering around Convoy for 20 minutes…read moretrying to decide what I wanted, we landed on Hongyuan Kebab. Parking was exactly what you'd expect on Convoy. A mess. This might actually be one of the worst lots because it's so limited and if you do find a spot you'll probably have to do a three point turn just to get out. We got lucky and snagged a spot right when someone left. It felt like winning the lottery. We were greeted and seated right away. Each table has a self rotating grill which was honestly pretty entertaining. They brought out a metal pitcher of water and these massive menus. One side is packed with skewers and the other has signature dishes, cold dishes, and mains. I didn't want to break the bank on a random Tuesday so we kept it simple. For $13.99 you get 5 beef skewers. We ordered two orders of the spicy beef skewers so 10 total. I also got the cold noodle because I wanted something refreshing and of course an order of corn since I love corn. The corn was $3.99 per skewer. Everything came out quickly. The waiter placed the skewers and corn onto the rotating grill for us. Once the fat started dripping and flames came up, another staff member stepped in and finished cooking them, then moved everything to the top rack to stay warm. It was a fun experience to watch. Spicy Beef Skewers Respectfully, why did this feel like torture. I love spice but this felt like the skewers were rolled in straight chili seeds. The spice level is easily an 8 out of 10. A warning on the menu would be helpful because this was serious heat. I was even more irritated when I realized it came out to about $3 per skewer after tax. I did like the soy based sauce in the middle of their sauce tray though. That helped balance it a bit. Cold Noodle This was the best item we ordered and the only one that felt properly priced. The portion was big enough to share and actually filled us up. The broth came out icy cold almost slushy which I loved. It was savory and refreshing. There were chewy buckwheat noodles, sliced cucumbers, and thin slices of beef. I've had versions served with Korean pear before but this seemed like apple. Maybe a honeycrisp apple? I just wish they gave a little more beef. Corn I was expecting juicy roasted corn but it turned out to be a waxy corn variety. That explains the $4 price but the texture just was not for me. I barely ate it. The menu could definitely describe what type of corn it is so people know what they're getting. It's a fun interactive spot and they do offer a 10% military discount which is nice. Overall though, I don't think I'll be returning.

Beef noodle soup - excellent flavor overall, including a strong broth and a nice, soft texture to the noodles. Out of the countless Chinese restaurants I've visited for beef noodle soup, this makes its way into the top three. 5/5 Lamb skewers - wayyyyy too dry. This is certainly not their specialty, and asking for extra cumin to sprinkle on the lamb did not redeem the firmness. I struggled to slide the meat off the skewer and ended up just eating it while still on the stick. 1.5/5 Fish fillet - so good. Easy to eat texture-wise. Caution -- a bit saltier than it looks. The bell peppers in particular were seasoned spectacularly. 4.5/5 Dry fried green beans - a delicious option for vegetables to add to the table. Most people will enjoy this one in my opinion. A bit more crunch than I expected, which is not a bad thing. 4/5 Double cooked pork - I've never seen it cooked this way, and am not a fan. I'm used to a more oily version of this dish. It contained a bunch of dried and crunchy... yams? Potatoes? Overall, the dish was mainly crunch with no flavor, and contained a relatively small amount of pork. 1/5
