I ALWAYS get the same thing every time I order from here .. shrimp roti and a shrimp patty. Last time the roti was bland, no seasoning or heat at all, a few onions and very few potatoes. However, this time my food was like it's supposed to be .. flavorful, tasty, spicy and plenty of shrimp, for that price. I don't like that there are no shrimp or tiny shrimp in the patty. I'm thinking ya'll could put a couple med shrimp in there. Also, the extra gravy cups are only half full. Can you add a bit more or give two containers of extra gravy..? read more

Since I failed to look at Yelp or phone first, I ended up at Negril when I discovered that Urban Butcher is closed on Monday's. I decided to dine in and ordered the curried chicken lunch special. For my preference the chicken was too mushy. The rice and peas and cabbage were ok. There is some street parking and parking in areas nearby that are a quick jaunt away. There are tables for dining in and I do recommend calling your order in if getting it to go to maximize your time. Orders during the lunch hour seemed to be processed quickly and the employees were cordial. As with most small places, check beforehand to see if they have your desired item available prior to having your mouth tuned and getting disappointed. read more

Y'all this my first time and it was sooo good. The beef patty and cocoa bread wooooooo. The ox tail was super good too. Pricey but I get it, it's ox tail. Do wish the portion was larger though. I want to give this restaurant 5 stars, but I found a big piece of plastic in my jerk chicken patty. I was so sad; it was the last thing I ate and so unfortunate because everything else was amazing. I had the brown fish stew dinner with rice and peas and cabbage. So good!!! 9/10 I also had a small jerk chicken. They only gave 2 small pieces, but it was still good. Maybe needed some extra sauce. 7/10 Lastly, I had the jerk chicken patty and coco bread. Unfortunately, I found the plastic wrap in it when I bit into it. It was a large piece hard to miss. The beef patties usually leave a big flaky mess on our laps in the car (which is a good thing) but tonight there was hardly a crumb. The fricasee chicken was decent. This is my favorite Negril location; seriously, it's like everything Negril does is executed PERFECTLY at this location. The layout of the restaurant can make it appear rather crowded, at times, as the register is directly in front of the door. Therefore when the line is long, it makes the entrance a bit cramped. They take order quickly and depending on what you've ordered your food comes out just as fast. I have tried many things on Negril's menu from their curry and jerk chicken, oxtails and sandwiches to the patties and their absolutely delicious coco bread. Honestly, their coco bread deserves a trophy or five; I've yet to find coco bread that tastes as good as Negril's. IT IS THE GOLDEN STANDARD. If you're not incredibly adventurous or it's your first time I suggest trying a chicken patty (with coco bread, of course) or the curry chicken plate. It's a blessing to have a neighborhood Jamaican spot that is solid. Usually I get the curry and fricasse (brown stew) chicken entrees and like Negril's take on both of them. Now, their jerk chicken entree is not the best I've had in the DMV area at all, as I've found it to be somewhat dry. Still, I do appreciate their sorrel and variety of patties. As a Jamaican that loves Jamaican food, I'm especially impressed with their very tasty tilapia sandwich done on coco bread, as that's an item I don't always see at Jamaican spots. I was craving Jamaican food, so I got some takeout from Negril! The food took about 20 mins from when I ordered and pickup was quick and easy. It seemed like a popular spot as they had many take out orders and a few people waiting around the restaurant. Once I got home and ate my meal, I could understand why the spot was popular! I got the fricassee chicken while my husband got the jerk chicken and we both loved our meals. My friscassee chicken was so tender and fell apart easily and was delicious with the perfectly cooked rice. Not knowing much about Jamaican food, this plate was delicious! Being of Carribean and gullah descent, it is NOT often that I give a carribean restaurant in the DMV five stars! Actually this is the first!! Also, the Negril by far is not the best Caribbean restaurant, but there is one dish....the escovietched red snapper that would make you a fan of this place. For those who do not know, escovietched fish is simply a crispy, well seasoned pan-fried snapper (or kingfish in some Caribbean restaurants). Once fried, the fish is stewed in a tomato base sauce cooked with onions, green peppers, carrots, and habaneros. The medley of flavors, when executed right, will put you on a natural high--nirvana! LOL!! Talk about heaven....I was there!! If you ever in the Silver Spring or Wash, DC area make sure you check them out and order this dish. You will not be disappointed. Our usual food of choice here is a beef patty with coco bread and/or a jerk chicken sandwich. Negril is hands down one of the better Jamaican places in this area. & We've tried several. Their coco bread is bomb!! Must get. Beef patties are super popular here and in constant rotation. Prices are fair for the food you get, the only really downside of this place the parking. There is meter parking right outside, people usually run in and leave someone else in the car around the corner at the bank. But their service is pretty quick so you'll be in and out. 9 times out of 10 out food has always been fresh which is a plus!
