Now I have to say I wasn't expecting to eat Jamaican food this evening when I headed out with some of the ladies but this had me reeling with delight. We had planned to try Manco Franco pizza's but due to the snow, they weren't open. As a result I mush mush mushed the girls up the hill to this little place that I had heard such great things about. Now this has to be hands down one of the most pleasant dining experiences of my life. Table for 5, no problem. BYOB, no problem. We are just waiting for our friends, no problem. They were so laid back, it was almost horizontal! But that didn't mean that the service was sloppy or that the food took ages. Quite the opposite. A friendly helpful waitress who dealt with the whole place on her own and not only that, the chef actually comes out to deliver your food, piping hot goodness that it is. Sweet plantain wedges were completed perfectly when some uncultured person I was with demanded ketchup. The waitress suggested some sort of lime dip instead which was "to die for"! Now this is meat-tastic with ribs, chicken and goat on the menu, but being a true Jamaican spot it serves vegan and vegetarian dishes from their Rastafarian selection. Not only that but there is a wonderful looking breakfast menu and Blue Mountain coffee. So all in all, this tiny little spot was a perfect dinner location, I now have to go wash the ribs and BBQ sauce off my face, actually if I sleep with it still there I can have it for breakfast.

Negril is a Jamaican restaurant situated in Brixton Hill, about a 15 minute walk from Brixton tube station. It's a hidden gem tucked away from the main busy Brixton high street. It came to my attention via Yelp's Secret Brixton event which highlights places around Brixton. I went down there around 6pm and was a bit apprehensive as we were the only customers there, but it was a Monday which is usually quiet in many restaurants. It's a pretty sizeable restaurant with plenty of tables/chairs and Bob Marley playing over the sound system. It was clean and tidy and even has an area in the front where people can eat and chill out outside. Presently they have standing heaters in case it gets cold, but I can imagine it's a really cool place to eat, drink and enjoy during Summer time too. The staff member taking our order was very attentive, accommodating, didn't mind us asking lots of questions about the menu and was generally just came across as a nice smiley person, so ordering was made very easy. I wasn't very hungry so ordered an ackee and saltfish starter with fried plantain which was reasonably priced . I wasn't sure about the dish as ackee if not made right can be quite bland, but when I tried it, it was so flavoursome I ended up really enjoying it. It was seasoned perfectly and went down really well with the salt fish and plantain. Service was quick aswell as payment. I highly recommend this restaurant, I definitely want to come back and try some other dishes and I suspect that this place gets a lot busier after after 7pm so I'll b booking a table next time.

Negril is a culinary holiday. Their food is scrumptious, filling and inexpensive. I got a quarter of jerk chicken, homemade lemonade, rice and peas and plantains all for just under a tenner. I licked the plate. The atmosphere in here is very cozy. The ceiling is law, the walls are painted in warm colours and the table legs rub against each other. It is small, but not at all claustrophobic. I felt like I was ensconced in a food blanket. One of the most excellent aspects of this place is the fact that they deliver! If you're having a lazy day and you don't feel like leggin' it to go get some quality food all you have to do is pick up the phone, place an order and wait for deliciousness to arrive at your doorstep. They also do party platters that consists of a whole heap of gorgeous food and a free six pack of Red Stripe for a mere £50. All in all, Negril is a winner.

One of my wonderful cocktails (I forget the name but believe it has rum, peach snaps and passion fruit)

Thank you to Yelp for a fantastic recommendation. This place has the feel of being on the upscale side while managing to be very laid back. Everything was absolutely wonderful: the drinks, the starters, the mains and the service. We started with the salt fish fritters and plantains which were really well made. Throughout the evening we had many drinks, the beer selection was nice and the cocktails were strong yet delicious. Our mains were also really well done. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in London.

My oxtail was pretty good but on the spicier side due to all the peppercorn in the sauce. However, the mango chutney and coleslaw helped with reducing the spice. In terms of flavor itself, it very mild. I prefer more thyme, tomato paste and just more seasoning in general. The place is definitely on the cozy side since most of their seating is outside. Unfortunately it was 32 degrees so I opted for inside where there's only 4 tables. I was a solo dinner, so I was placed with a group which was fine with me since it was so cold. But heads up for any anxious solo eaters that you may have to sit with strangers. The waitstaff were really nice and accommodating which I really appreciated. Overall I'm glad I stopped by to eat

If you are used to the ubiquitous Caribbean Jerk Chicken and have not yet tried Trini food, go on be adventurous widen your culinary palette and get yourself down to Roti Jouper, you will not be disappointed! To describe Roti Jouper merely as a Caribbean Takeaway is so missing something that distinguishes this and The Shepherd's Bush take-out from all the other Carib Takeaways. What makes this place so special? It is an authentic Trinidadian Takeaway, the creations from this beautiful island are distinctly different from the rest of the Caribbean. That this place is always busy speaks volumes, having previously visited Trinidad & Tobago I can vouch that the delicious wide ranging menu is 100% authentic. The cheerful staff who work here from these islands serve you with a smile and help to create a 'buzz.' On the menu there is far more to explore than just the overhead displays, check out the mouth watering Mac Cheese cakes and bread. Also so much from the menu you can freeze, so well worth the effort to stock up if you have some distance to travel. Roti Jouper was actually discovered quite by accident, and one very positive outcome after my dear friend from Trinidad had been robbed of a purse ( eventually returned intact minus all the cash bar £1 ) seeking solace at a café outside Archway Tube Station, we struck up conversation after picking up a Trini accent, 'if you want authentic Trini food, do get yourselves down to Roti Jouper in Clapham and mention that Raij Paul Barrackpoor sent you' Within five minutes we were on our way, just round the corner from Clapham North on the Northern Line, or Clapham High St on the Overground, and wow we were soon transported back to Trinidad. Ordered a massive takeout, which my dear friend took back to her flat in Portslade Brighton. On 16th October I popped back for another order so heavy that the canvas bag came apart at the seams, this will soon be on its way with me back to Brighton, and thanks for the very generous 'extras.'

I got the doubles and whilst I was surprised the filling had the texture of refried beans (rather than the whole chickpeas I had at a roti place in Stokie), it was delicious and a bit spicy. I could have devoured two of them! I also got the shrimp roti with all four of the veg fillings option. However, opening it at home, it was heavy on the chickpeas and spinach but I didn't detect pumpkin. Oh well! It still tasted fantastic (and is not as spicy as the doubles). For a total of £6.50 I had two dinners. Score. I am deducting a star bc it's cash only. C'mon guys, it's 2017, get with the program!

This is a small independent resturant run by the owner with a small staff group, from what I could see. The interior is quirky lots of good photos from a time gone by. The menu is as you would expect, jerk chicken, curry goat, fritters, home made deserts, including ice cream. Service, potentially, could be a little slow as they had a 50th birthday party in, but in actual, fact that did not slow anything down. The owner was friendly and happy to engage. The food was flavoursome, a good spicy kick was served with my jerk chicken wings for starters. I did expect a little more heat from my curry goat, but the meat was so tender I wouldn't grumble to much about that. I will return here, I liked the ambience, there was music but you did not need to shout to have a conversation.
