I've visited Rome numerous times and never knew that this Etruscan "city of the dead" existed. It's about a forty minute drive north of Rome at Cerveteri ... and well worth visiting. Known locally as Necropoli della Banditaccia, this was the main burials area of the ancient Etruscan city of Caere. It is the most impressive and magnificent necropolis that I've ever visited.
