The lodge is located here.

AWARENESS: Knowing a year ago I'd be in Monterey the first weekend of April 2019. It was no brainer figuring out where to stay; The Navy Lodge Monterey of course. NARRATIVE: When visiting a city where military lodging is available, you can bet that's where I'll be camped out. Especially if it's a Navy Lodge. When it's available in or near a city I'm visiting. Military hotels are known to have cheaper rates. The hotels are normally located on a base with restricted access and for the most part, visitors are normally well behaved. LOCATION: Located a little over a mile from the Navy Post Graduate School and a bit over three miles from Cannery Row. The Navy Lodge is close to all the action. EVIDENCE: During our visit, the office and a section of rooms around the reception desk were under construction. Check in / out and the morning continental breakfast were actually done at a portable trailer. About the size of my homes bathroom. Not a ton of room, this the reason for my three star rating. RECOMMENDATION(S): I plan to return sometime next year, after the construction and new renovations are done. Maybe on my return, I can pump up my rating. Until then, the best I can say and give is the middle of the road.

ACTIVE DUTY AND RETIRED MILITARY ONLY: This was my first stay at the Navy Lodge in Monterey and it's a nice clean place to stay at a very reasonable price. $76.00 a night, which is easlily half of what I would have paid to stay in town. I've stayed at a couple of the "Best Westerns" in town and each time for a weekend rate I shelled out $200 per night. That being said, we were not staying at the Hyatt that was located just down the avenue, so no frills or fancy hotel garb here. it's simply a very clean, well lit, and safe place to stay at an affordable rate. "NO" 12% hotel tax added to the overall bill due to U.S. Navy property, just $152.00 for Friday and Saturday night stay. A similar room in town would have been around $440.00 with taxes. I'll always go with less frills and a smaller bill any day of the week while staying here in Monterey. Oh yeah, what also makes this place shine over many others is that you can bring your dog (pet) with you while you stay here and this place "IS" close to town. I'm not sure what the #1 reviewer was thinking ;-)

My husband and I stayed at the Navy Lodge for almost a month while waiting for our military housing to become available during a PCS (the hotel is for military only). For the price and our needs, you can't ask for anything better. I'm leaving a very detailed review, as there is not much info available on the Navy Lodge website, and I would have liked to have known some of these things in preparation for our long stay. ROOM DETAILS & PRICING: - $77 a night. - FREE WIFI. The reviews stating otherwise are outdated. I wouldn't call the wifi fast, and it booted me off constantly, but it was there, and it was free. - The main part of our room had a queen bed, large closet, couch and coffee table, desk with two chairs, bureau with a flat-screen TV on top, small dresser with mirror, and a cafe table with two chairs situated by the window. - Cordoned off bathroom section contained a large counter with one sink and large mirror. Small bathroom located behind door (door had a full-length mirror on it). - Cordoned off kitchen section contained a small coffee maker, mini fridge, microwave, two-burner stove, and small sink. Cabinets were stocked with everything completely essential to cook and eat a simple meal. Because we were staying for so long, it was important that we were able to cook some of our own meals, and this was possible (if a bit uncomfortable). PROS: - Pets accepted. We have a 50-pound dog, and he was comfortable in the room and on the hotel campus with us. *They need you call to book a room if you have a pet (rather than booking online).* They don't mention this anywhere on the website. - Room size. We were even able to fit a skinny Christmas tree in the room! - Location. Convenient to both DLI and NPS, and only a five-minute or so drive to downtown Monterey where there is a Trader Joe's, a post office, and many restaurants. - The neighborhood. The Navy Lodge campus is located in the La Mesa military housing community. It's a very family- and pet-friendly neighborhood, great for walks and runs (lots of hills, and pretty views), and for walking the dog. There are a lot of playgrounds, and people were friendly. - The service. Every front-desk employee I spoke with was extremely polite and helpful. Including the one who we checked in with around 1:00am. Probably the best staff of any hotel I've been to. Mark deserves a shout out; we left a few items in the room after our checkout, and he helped us coordinate to have the items retrieved and held for us. And he also arranged to hold some mail that was delivered for us after our checkout. - If you are staying during a PCS, go to the Shopette or PX at NPS and pick up a scratch-off card. Give the card to a desk employee at the end of your stay, and you could get 10%, 25%, or 100% off up to 20 days of your bill. - They prioritize PCSing customers. We had to extend our stay twice, and they accommodated us easily both times, without switching our room. CONS: - Our sink leaked into the cabinets to the side of it, so the pots/pans/bowls in there were constantly wet. - One of the sprinklers on our ceiling was also leaky. - Temperature control for the room was broken, and it was often very warm and humid inside. - Water pressure in shower was very poor, though this is common at hotels. - It was often quite noisy as a result of a centrally located playground packed with kids. However, it's great that this playground is offered and used, so not a true "con." - Pots and pans provided in kitchen are not nonstick. This made them difficult to clean, especially since no cleaning supplies were included in the room. Cleaning the kitchen is the responsibility of the guest, so we had to go out and buy sponges, scouring pads, etc. - It was apparent that the kitchen area had not been cleaned (probably as it had not been used) in quite some time. There was scum and mold on the dish-drying rack when we got there. - The designated dog poop area is in the middle of the parking lot, so I had to walk the dog through traffic areas to get there. And, this is not the hotel's fault, but it was apparent that guests with dogs did not always use the designated area, or clean up after their pets.

I have stayed here in the past and I enjoyed it a lot but today. The room smells like wet carpet or something and my asthma is on the rise. Yikes, so disappointed. The rooms are great. But I just didn't care for the smell when I checked in. Perhaps it'll be better the next time. I'm will edit this review the next time I'm in town again.

A little kitchenette
Raquel H.

This hidden gem is 15min from the aquarium. And 5 min drive to town. Ours had a little kitchenette (stove top, fridge, sink, coffee, toaster ,pots etc.) I requested 2 Queens. Bathroom stocked with mini toiletries and a variety of sizes of clean towels. Outside on the property there is a play structure for the kids to play. In the a.m. from 6-9am there is bagels, juice and granola bars at the front desk. The best part was that it was $75 a night! I am not in military but did purchase this through a group wedding booking. Not sure if you need to be in the military, be married or have some tie to be able to stay there. Call the 800# and see! I'll be on the lookout for more navy lodges when needing a place to stay.

We enjoyed their rooftop spa overlooking the bay- next level. The entrance to the hotel opens up to a beautiful first floor with ocean view, large fireplace, sofas and seating areas, and a small bar. The hotel offers a nightly happy hour and musical performances. During our visit we had the pleasure to discover a highly talented artist by the name of Adrea, who has the most incredible voice and presence. We were so impressed by her and were very fortunate that she performed both nights of our visit. It was a performance we would have gladly paid to see, she is a rising talent for sure. I can't state how exceptional our experience was to enjoy the music in such an elevated atmosphere, relaxing by the fire, enjoying the outstanding craft cocktails by their highly talented mixologist. Schooners is not to be missed, the food is as outstanding as the ocean view! A special mention to the superior customer care provided by Pracha, a guest service manager at the hotel, who is an absolute star. This was our second time staying in Monterey and I had been looking forward to staying at this hotel someday. It was everything I imagined and more! The service was exceptional from the valet to the bellhop to registration and restaurant staff. We are also IHG elite members and we were given a room upgrade with a thoughtful card and gift for our anniversary. Our room was facing the ocean on Cannery Row with a balcony. It was a very nice, spacious and clean room with alot of thoughtful attention like providing refillable water bottles, robes and an amazing Nespresso machine. There was also a wine bar and snacks available for purchase. The hotel had a wonderful scent throughout and we enjoyed walking through the ocean vibes staircase featuring a jellyfish. Definitely look for that! We loved having our anniversary dinner at The C Restaurant, but that will be another well earned review on it's own. However, we did have two negative experiences, one was that we waited a bit too long for our car at the valet once and there was an accidental spa charge on our receipt when checking out. I still gave them 5 stars because they rectified it right away and even removed the valet charge for us, which was much appreciated. I would love to come back to this hotel someday to bring my parents and we hope you love it too!!

The hotel itself is beautiful, and the ocean views from our room were a huge highlight. The room was very clean and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed and more. The fireplace, tub, and private deck really elevated the whole experience. It was also great having a spa and restaurant right on site, adding even more convenience and relaxation to our stay. Overall, this has been one of the best hotel experiences we've had. We visit Monterey Bay often, and we'll definitely be staying here again!

Toddler Notes for the Hotel: [[ Pro's ]] 1.) The room we got on the 3rd floor corner was very spacious and had a ton of room. We were able to set up a pack and play and still had a generous amount of room left to walk around. 2.) Blackout shades and see-through shades for double coverage which keeps the room nice and dark at night. 3.) Location is great as it's super close to Cannery Row, lots of restaurants, and Monterey Bay Aquarium which was our ultimate destination. 4.) Parking Garage is free and decently sized and can fit a mid-size SUV with no issues. It will get tighter if you have a humongous full-SUV though (see pictures). [[ Con's ]] 1.) So Many STAIRS. Like legitimately, there are so many stairs. I took a ton of pictures to give you an idea. Stairs coming down from the elevator, stairs between floors, etc. This is not very young kid friendly when you have a stroller, a bunch of kid items, etc. I'm not sure I would stay here again due to the amount of stairs and inconvenience. 2.) Noise Level - If your kid is sensitive to noise, be prepared to have a ton of sound machines because you really could hear a ton of things. Cars, honking, other people's rooms, etc. 3.) Shower - It did seem a bit rusty in certain places and our shower wouldn't drain so there was a big puddle the whole time we were showering. The steam also set off the fire alarm like another person mentioned. Quick conclusion - I think it's an okay IHG hotel but not very good for families with young kids. Good for the location though.

Another great thing about this hotel is that it does not charge for parking which definitely is a bonus. The room I was in was pretty big and quiet. Free standard Holiday Inn daily breakfast. I would definitely stay here again if I wasn't looking to splurge and just wanted a room for the night.

They have a pirate program for kids that was fun for my boys to get a special bag and coloring book and crayons. The location was amazing. We were able to go to the pier every day we were in Monterey to enjoy looking at the boats and the animals. We also really enjoyed how close it was to old town and restaurants, bakeries, and a Walgreens. The room itself was simple, but beautiful and big enough for our family of four. This was a clean room. You can tell that the staff care about the building and the space. The bed and pillows were just fine. It was fun to be a little bit further away from the elevator. I'll start by saying that the staff here was very nice and helpful. The location was great as we…read morewere only about a 10 min drive from the aquarium. We only tried breakfast at the restaurant but it was great. The serving sizes were huge. Definitely could have split one plate between 2 people. Even the kids meal was a large portion size. I will say however, that this is not the most accessible hotel if you have a stroller or wheelchair. The lobby has an accessible lift (the entrance is at the bottom of a small staircase), but we didnt know this when first walking over. So I spent a few minutes walking around the property trying to look for a way to get my stroller and 2 kids up to the front desk. The lift is also pretty narrow. I have a tandem double stroller so I was able to fit, but I dont think I would have been able to use the lift if I had a side by side double stroller. The only other way to get up to the lobby is to go through one of the elevators in the parking garage. But if you didn't park in the garage, then you'd have to walk your stroller (or move your wheelchair) into the parking garage and then use the correct elevator to get to the main lobby. Having small kids, this was just more inconvenient than anything. Not the hotel's fault, but just not a great fit for us at this time. I am grateful that they have multiple elevators throughout the parking garage so that you dont have to walk all the way across the property to use the elevator. The hotel was also recently renovated, but the attention to detail just wasnt there. One of the towel hooks in our bathroom was hanging off our wall, the light in the hallway was crooked and was very wobbly, and there was a panel that was supposed to covering the wires from the phone that was kinda just hanging loosely. Not a big deal for us, but just things that we noticed that could've used some work. Overall, not a bad hotel, but the stroller accessibility was just not a great fit for us as a family with young kids.

So either housekeeping was being dishonest about finding it originally, or they're being dishonest about changing the bedding between guests.) And now, after nearly a month of waiting, calling, and emailing, the kindle was FINALLY mailed. My initial review still stands. What an incredibly disappointing and frustrating experience. "Disappointed" would be an understatement. Booked one night (using points) at this property and really wish we hadn't. Was charged a mystery $50 fee at check in. Then at checkout we asked what it was for, the guy working the front desk didn't have a clue and he tried to say he'd fix it "when the computers were working again." When we called his bluff by saying we'd come back in an hour, it was magically fixed. Shady! The room itself was meh... the floors were strangely sloped/didn't feel level. The real kicker here: there was no bedside table on my side of the bed (an inconvenience in itself), so my kindle was placed on the bed with me. I unfortunately forgot my kindle on the bed and didn't realize until we had checked out and were hours away. We called the hotel and were told they didn't find anything in the room. I know for a fact it was left in that room (I've double triple quadruple checked my luggage and there's no where else it could possibly be). Again, SHADY.

The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had a warm charm that made it easy to relax after a day of exploring the city. One of the highlights of our stay was how the hotel carried such a unique atmosphere and history. It wasn't just a place to sleep--it felt like part of the adventure. Between the ocean views, cozy spaces, and local touches, it really captured the spirit of Monterrey. And then there were the ghost stories. Whether you're a believer or just love a good tale, they add an extra layer of fun and mystery to the stay. If you're someone that believes (or not), go to the front desk and ask for the "book". It had 78 pages of first hand accounts of unexplained happenings from guests. We had a very small moment ourselves, while I was sharing what I uncovered about the ghosts with my significant other in the morning, suddenly the bathroom light just turned on. Nobody was around and they do run on sensors. Not a significant event but certainly was well timed. Overall, Hotel Del Monte struck the perfect balance between comfort, history, and a touch of playful spookiness. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Monterrey that has access to a military installation--especially if you're looking for more than just a hotel, but a memorable experience.

The interior is also gorgeous, and it's amazing how well they've kept up the history of this place. We stayed in a queen suite, which was very outdated. Because of how old the buildings are, there is no A/C, which is typically fine, but we happened to be there on one of the warmest days of the year. Our room had an odd smell to it, and the amenities are pretty minimal. However, we expected this due to the age of the building. Our only negative was that we were given the first room next to the entrance and stairwell, which was not fun to hear folks stomping up and down the stairs and slamming the doors. On Friday morning, several people we knew were awoken by the "active shooter drill" announcement at 8:00am. I understand this will happen on a naval academy base, but I wish we were warned about upon check-in just so we were aware and not startled in the morning.
