Great place to go to get your required SMOG test done, if you live near downtown LBC. Like getting…read moredocuments notarized, the process is heavily regulated by the state, but unlike a notary, it looks like a SMOG testing center can charge what they want. So the $40 out the door (including the mandatory $8.25 fee for the certificate) is a great price. I actually found a coupon from smogtips.com for $29.95 for this space, but once you add in the extras, it came out the same...so the tech didn't even take it. The $40 is listed clearly, and it seems like it would be the same for minivans and small SUVs as well (other places seem to have extra surcharges for that). Like others said, it's easy to drive in if you are next, but if somebody is getting tested, you would need to drive into the auto repair shop driveway right after and walk back to the garage to get in line. You can only enter going South on Long Beach Blvd (since Long Beach Blvd is a divided road). There is a small waiting room with a TV showing a local station. Once our car got hooked up, it took about 15 minutes to complete. They take credit cards, and will give you a computerized Vehicle Inspection Report. Now I just need to wait for the electronic submission to be recorded at the DMV, so I can renew my registration on-line. Conclusion: the price is good, and quick once you get started. We'll come back to this place in 2 years.

Yelp was correct: their $40 price is on the low end of standard (they have a coupon on their website, but turns out I didn't actually need it to get that price), the guy working there (who I think may have also been the owner) was super friendly, and I was in and out in 10 minutes. My only complaint: they really need a better sign directing traffic - they have a big sign out in front, that points into their one-car garage, so if someone else is already getting a smog check (as was the case when I got there), it is completely non-obvious where to go. You actually turn into the following drive-way, which looks like it leads into a car-wash, and then park around the back of the building. Their sign out front really needs to tell people that. Once I figured out where I was going, though, super quick and easy.
