Both of us are vegan, and the vegan choices aren't aplenty around these parts, so we thought a good health store run would be a wise idea for us. We were very happy with the vast selection of fresh and non perishable food at this store. We loaded up on many vegan faves, and a few new to us items, too! I believe this Natural Grocers location overall is standard in its business practices neither good nor bad but simply neutral. My personal experience was brief and I've managed to check this space out perhaps three times but never quite felt inclined to stay for long. It is exceedingly overpriced in the products that they offer. The handcrafted soap is the only section in the store that was priced at a surprisingly low rate (which was a nice find!). I love coming here! I can always find great deals on things I normally buy. They have frequent sales so be sure to check out their weekly ad when you go in there. Their produce section is very small compared to Good Food Store, but the produce they do have is always very fresh. Natural Grocers sells organic items that are much cheaper than other natural food stores. You can almost always find eggs on sale and other food staples. Their prices are reasonable which is why I keep coming back. You can find many vegan options and can rest assured you are getting the best price. The store is spacious and uncluttered. You don't feel crammed when you are shopping and another shopper is in the same aisle as you. They sell a wide variety of items including meat, dairy products and dairy alternatives, produce, frozen foods, spices, pasta, condiments, vitamin supplements, essential oils and diffusers, and beauty products. Keep in mind, their products are all natural and organic, so many of the items you cannot find at a regular grocery store. Bottom line: They sell quality natural products at a decent price. I've never had a bad experience here and the staff has always been helpful. I definitely recommend Natural Grocers! read more

I love the sight of the amazing produce as soon as I walked into the store. It is all so colorful and fresh and full, well done! I have food restrictions so this is my go-to store for affordable options that I can always find in the frozen and grocery sections. My favorite items are always in stock so I don't have to worry if I will be able to find them at another store or not. The staff is happy to help get the items that are too high for me to reach and are attentive to anything else I may need help with. There is always something fun and new in the vitamin and beauty sections, it's hard to not spend all day looking at all the things! The cashiers are always friendly and efficient, I feel like I don't have to spend much time waiting like I do at other stores. I always overhear how pleasantly surprised other customers are when the store manager and other managers help out at the checkout registers. Awesome team at an awesome store! read more

I've been a loyal and regular customer at this store since they opened in Missoula and used to love this store. August 17, 2024 I got treated like a liar and a thief by a "manager" called Emma, over a problem with my NPower account that made it appear as if I had already received a free chocolate bar (that I didn't even want), when I had not physically even been at their store between August 14, 2024 and August 17, 2024. As if I was somehow trying to double dip their crappy store brand chocolate bar promotion. Thanks for questioning my integrity over something as dumb as that, Emma, when you could literally have engaged in some semblance of customer service. Taking my $20k a year grocery budget that I used to spend here elsewhere - and yes, I let them keep their $2 store brand chocolate bar. read more

I like this store just fine other than I feel they could be more mindful of the products they are purchasing for re-sale and be receptive to input about those products. I've never purchased an organic chicken with so much plastic smothering the entire thing - on the inside and out - throughout. Mary's organic chicken. I had to throw it away there was so much but I took photos incase the company itself wants to change this. It was extensive. When I called to offer feedback to the store itself - it was met with an I don't care attitude. I didn't ask for my 17 dollars back - I just wanted to offer a suggestion to maybe ask the company to do better or find another option. I liked shopping there so it felt worthwhile to ask for something better than what I encountered today. The good food store's organic chickens don't have a bunch of plastic on the inside. I usually like this store and shop in Spokane, Temple Texas, Coeur D'alene and in Missoula. This store was so bad today and I was treated so bad by the staff. Not sure if it was because I was wearing a trump hat or my arab jewish look? Maybe they just are bad customer service. the dairy section had a 16 ounce size of organic ream on sale for $1-85. I read the numbers n container and sales tickt. it as the same product. I brought that my water and 4dz eggs up to the cunter and when i pulled out my twenty i accidentally ripped in half. This caused a major concern to the horrible male cashier. I said "you could just tape it". Nah, he thought if money tore, it was not good any more. We move on from that when supervisor tells clerk to just tape it. He then rings up my order and gives me the receipt. i said hold it i think you overcharged me. Too late, he bolted and went on break or just dissappeared from the counter. I tried to get the attention of someone. I tried the next cashier, who i thought could handle it after she checked out her 2 customers. Nah, she just kept on waiting on people after 10 minutes of dead air, a supervisor comes and he is totally confused by the transaction. So I wait longer. So now the cashier resturns and starts ringing up another person, . The supervisor and another man come along that work there and are still confused. One tells me i did not take the 16 ounce organic valley , i believe it was called. I too the one pint container!!! lol I kid you not They would not sell me the item for $1.85 sale price. I was told I would have to pay $4.15 for the "one pint size". This is beyond comprehension and i cannot imagine this 66 year old person of color with disabilities returning to this store or any of their stores. There is a pandemic and people , some are not wearing masks, yet they made me wait 10 to 15 minutes to get my problem resolved. This place is fantastic! I've been to many throughout the west and this location hits top of the list. Everything was so clean and in order. TONS of vegan options! I seriously felt like it was an all vegan store, that's how much they had! The produce was fresh and beautiful. They had so much Hummus I had a hard time deciding what to pick. My favorite find was in the frozen section, Vegan Tamales! They were organic and oil-free! I was very impressed, they tasted fresh and healthy, I highly recommend! The company itself, Natural Grocer, has a positive outlook and idea of what the grocery industry should be, but this Missoula location store has a store manager who felt classist and racist. Cons: Wifi is broke. Employees usually ask too many times in an unnatural way as if they are required 'Can I help you?'. Selection smaller than GFS. Pros: Excellent customer service (usually). Excellent HABA selection [Supplements and beauty aids, self-care... which is what a natural grocery store is all about, right? I can't rub broccoli under my armpits]. I really like that they have flouride and flouride free dental care items separated. I lost my tube of Spry Cinnamon, bought a Kiss My Face brand somewhere else, and was disappointed to find out it had flouride. I would have never bought it if I would have known. Manufacturers cannot legally label their toothpaste 'anti-cavity' unless it has the endocrine-disrupting poison sodium flouride in it. I wish they would label the areas more clearly, though. Vegetable selection is good, although I get most of my vegetables from the much more reasonably-priced community garden, trading hours directly for food. Since grains and other cheap non-human foods are heavily subsidized, even regulary-priced non-organic items are too much for people on less than 1500 a month in overpriced America. Natural Grocers is a decent place to get stuff like that category when something is missing, although since I use their veg section so infrequently, I can't comment. Secondly, the regular prices on their packaged items are relatively good. GFS is way overpriced on some items, I find. Although they have a lot of community support, I feel since they are going so close to the premium end of service (and markeup), and since people travel thirty or more miles to go to GFS, and their lot is nearly always full, I don't feel bad about spending my sub-poverty income on Natural Grocers, and reflecting that quite a few other people trying to make their car payment and insurance, who do not have grower's experience (community garden or their own), are left with trying to get non-GMO no monkey business organics at something like Natural Grocers. Townies don't like it, but it fills a gap between the limited selection and reduced buying power of the co-op (Missoula Community Food Co-op) and GFS (Good Food Store). Other features: full selections, not as extensive as GFS, restrooms, no cafe but a community room, helpful employees (mostly, some are that awful kind of trendy), boxes at the takeout instead of bags, veg section that looks appealing, quick-grab center island, decent music instore, relaxed atmosphere -except for the obvious employer-mandated 'Can I help you?' - it is excessive. Employees should be available, but not so aggressively and artificially helpful. read more

This is really hands-down the best place to go for vitamins and organic personal care items. They have an excellent selection and helpful reference materials. I will say, though, I don't really buy food here unless I'm desperate (we live just a few blocks away). It's really expensive and limited. I am also much more inclined to buy bulk food, and while they have bulk items, they're prepackaged. I do sometimes pick up a few snacks or specialty items, but that's pretty much it. read more

Working at a organic grocery store myself, I found it rather pleasant and also very easy to find needed items. Also a rather large selection of products to choose from as well. I come here a lot for their beauty section. I like to use natural ingredients on my sensitive skin and they have a pretty good selection. And sometimes they have a basket of free beauty samples which is always a plus. The staff is polite, but they honestly remind me of robots every time I come in. If the Good Food Store has the bourgeois and Lucky's Market has the beautiful, then Natural Grocers has the bohemian. This place is the best out of the three natural food markets in Missoula, both in terms of price and service, but it has no deli. The supplements department makes me grateful for being American. Seriously, I believe in socialized medicine, but when I lived abroad, I had to get a doctor's prescription for Melatonin, and most supplements were harder to get there since they were not tied to the "free" medical establishment. However, here in the promised land, I can get Melatonin skin lotion and amino acids and Ayurveda in Natural Grocers' supplements cornucopia. Indeed, I might go bankrupt while developing an illness not covered by my measly American health insurance, but I sure as hell can try to stop illness by attempting to be as healthy as possible while regularly shopping at this place. I go to Natural Grocers because it's usually not as frantic as the other markets. It smells like a natural food store, kinda hippie patchouli armpit, kinda incense-spices exotic. Watch out for traffic as you exit their parking lot, there is only one way in and one way out and it can be very hard to exit during peak traffic times. read more

I love this store. The prices are insanely good for the quality, the employees are always sweet and super-helpful, and they even have a nutritionist on staff. Also, they have the biggest selection of vitamins I've ever seen (downside: too many choices!)
