In it's former location, I recognized all of the employees and they were always visible and very helpful. In this new location at 24 road, I have been there twice, I don't recognize any of the cashiers, I never see any employees in the aisles. When I finally found someone to ask for help, he just said - it's not my department. NEVER has a Natural Grocer employee said that to me. I was appalled, normally they will walk with me to the area and help me find what I am looking for. Then when I got to the cashiers, the line was so long. One of the cashiers kept calling on the radio for help and NO ONE ever arrived to help. So I put my items back and left the store and will never return. read more

I seem to stop at this Natty G's every time I am heading back from Utah or other parts west. It's not right off the highway, but it's only about 5 minutes from the exit. Their organic produce selection is always good and they have a fully stocked natural foods grocery along with extensive supplement and health and beauty sections as well. read more

Their return policy is absolutely unfair- I was told that I could return some supplements when I bought them if they didn't agree with me and was then told a different story when I went to do so. I've called corporate several tomes but still haven't been able to get them on the phone after much phone tag. Won't be doing that again. read more

Terrible return policy! I found out about it when I tried to return an unopened $12 cosmetic product without a receipt and the condescending cashier treated me like I was a child. I had paid with a credit card and would have gladly taken a store credit and they could have sold the item again but that's against their policy. Totally inflexible! Will NEVER shop there again. Considering they could have taken the item back and resold it, they lost a customer over NOTHING. read more

Vitamin Cottage is perhaps the only natural food-store in Grand Junction. They have a wide variety of organic foods and supplements. However, they are woefully mismanaged. The checkout is always extremely painful because there is often only one or two open checkout lanes. They are routinely backed up with some person returning something. Or something not marked and needing a price check. Or the checker having a gut-churning dialectic with some emaciated man in yoga pants about which method of colon cleansing is the most thorough, while ten people with carts full of groceries wait. Please streamline the checkout experience! Put efficient and fast employees on the register and direct questions about products or returns to customer service! Please! Almost every aisle is impassable because they are too narrow and usually blocked by mountains of overstock. Seriously: why do you insist on putting away your order in the middle of peak business hours? Why can't you wait until after business hours to do this? How do you expect people in wheelchairs to shop in your store when you can barely walk in it? Vitamin cottage - bar none - is the WORST SHOPPING EXPERIENCE IN GRAND JUNCTION. The dreaded WalMart is preferable to having to stop in at Vitamin Cottage to get something. I have been to the Vitamin Cottage in Lakewood and none of these problems are present. I have been to co-ops and natural food stores all over the US. This is not normal. What is the problem? read more

All I can say is that this store is better than nothing, but not much! I was so happy when Vitamin Cottage first opened in Grand Junction, but now I hate going there. It's not a fun shopping experience. They are usually out of whatever I need and their prices have gotten way too expensive. For instance, I can buy ground buffalo at City Market for $6.99/lb while Vitamin Cottage's prices if $10.+/lb. Their chicken prices are ridiculously high. Since I wrote this original review, their prices have gone way up on most of the items I buy. I can truly say that they should be called Whole Paycheck cause on most things I buy, Whole Foods is less expensive. They do not support local organic growers and almost all of their produce is from Mexico. They kept telling me they would carry more of the things I asked for when they enlarged the store, things that they "never had room" to carry before, but they have not done this. I would rather go over to Whole Foods in Denver and stock up as most of Whole Foods prices on things that I buy cost less than Vitamin Cottage and they carry a much wider range of food choices. I stopped buying vitamins at this store because I can get them much cheaper and with no shipping charges online. I try to support local businesses, but with all of the stores they are opening in various states, I don't consider Vitamin Cottage a local business. The layout of the newer, bigger store is horrible. When one walks in, the first things seen are cash registers and vitamins unlike most healthy stores where the first things seen are gorgeous fresh produce. I talked to Joe, the manager, and he said that vitamins are their biggest money makers and that's why they do it this way. So lame!! read more

For some reason, when I lived in Denver, I never shopped at this place. Now, I cannot imagine why. Natural Grocers is hands-down my favorite grocery spot in Grand Junction. Small, easy to navigate, and packed with healthy and affordable (usually) choices for meals. While the produce section is admittedly more comprehensive in Sprouts or City Market, the meat selection here is great, and cheap, and there are a lot of alternatives to meat, dairy, and gluten foods to be found. I'm a fan of the bulk section of seasonings, nuts, oats, etc. There's also an extensive homeopathic and natural home/beauty products here. Remember to bring your own bags as boxes are your only alternative if you forget them. The check out is usually staffed with just a few people, but typically goes quickly and is far better than certain other larger-name grocery stores I can think of. read more

OK store. Bulk items available, but all pre-bagged as far as I saw. Loved that they carry Olathe eggs - nice to have free range eggs from a nearby location. Seems to have a large selection. Store seems a little dark. But employees were helpful and I certainly saw a lot of people getting what they wanted. I will continue to monitor the store as I settle in to Grand Junction and see what I need vs what they stock. read more

I've owned 2 natural food stores and helped run a coop. Natural Grocers is the whole foods market in Grand Junction. . I've shopped in many of their stores. They have the best produce. Their newly released corn chips are the best organic option at the best price: $2.99 for a pound,and have no Canola oil. I'm not against Canola; it's obviously not a problem considering the amount of Canola consumed, Palm oil is huge, however, causing Indonesia forests to be cleared. The Silver Hills breads are the absolute best sprouted bread I've ever consume read more

This store has a great selection. I occasionally find bugs in the produce which just proves it is organic. I have been shopping here since before Sprouts was an option. And, all-in-all am grateful for its presence in GJ. Some cashiers and staff are friendly and helpful while others are aloof and not so helpful. I like the no bag policy but when I spend $200+ in the store and am left to box my groceries myself as they are just pushed out of cashiers way so she can ring up next customer, I get flustered and grateful I can try sprouts out the next week until I can get over it and try again next month. read more

I live in Moab so this store seems amazing and huge each time I go to Grand Junction. I stock up on a lot of items since they are cheaper here. I also love the prepackaged lunch foods- a tad spendy but well worth it for a quick, healthy meal. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Love this place!! read more

I came here while visting family and friends for Super Bowl 46 (I'll spare you the Roman nomenclature). The store is conveniently located in a good-sized plaza parking lot. Upon entering, I observed the methodical layout of the interior. It is actually halved, one part being stocked with shelved health food products, and the other, a fresh and organic section (refrigerated). Initially, and given the array of items, I started browsing the store's wide aisles (that's a plus) and looking at its resourceful selection. I sort of got sidetracked, as there were a lot of nice products. I collected my thoughts, and started looking for items on my list. When I found the first one, I was aghast to discover its absorbent price (i.e., the mark-up had to be at least 150%, possibly more). Trying to avert cognitive dissonance (and a social response to walk out), I put the item in my shopping cart, and ventured on; hoping to find reasonably better prices here. Next item... $$$$$$$$$$$. Once again, the conditioned response was coerced to leave. At the same time, and realizing that this was the ONLY health food store with all the products I needed, I felt caught between a rock, and a hard place. I resolved myself to finish shopping here (and get out as quickly as possible). I won't tell you the total... I will say though that, there was a "surplus" of helpful and friendly employees. Natural Grocers earned three stars from me, on account of their prices; and the store's monopoly persona. I hope I can find health food selections elsewhere, next time. read more

I was really happy to find an organic store at first but then I saw their prices. Many soups are about $1 cheaper at City Market, and organic meat is just out of my price range compared to Safeway. The selection isn't bad but the staff wasn't very helpful when I went in, they seemed to be more concerned with talking amongst themselves. Small health food stores were great when they first came out, but now the organic movement is in full swing and grocery stores have started stocking quality organic stuff. read more
