Ahhhhh...where do I start??? We were fortunate enough to be at this marvelous haven this past…read moreChristmas, and it was outstanding. The property is absolutely lovely, peaceful, and is just a "vibe" once you enter. You are greeted by such warm, friendly people, and as you walk to your room, you are surrounded by unparalleled, peaceful beauty. This was our 2nd stay, and they were both magnificent. The rooms are thoughtfully curated with beautiful local art, and lots nice touches. We were there for our anniversary and were greeted with a bottle of champagne, glasses, and a sweet card - what a nice surprise! There is a gratis, made to order breakfast that is such a great way to start the day and an awesome bonus for guests. The pool area is amazing...it's very clean and well maintained, as is the entire property. We LOVE watching the tortoises in their habitat, and watching the birds is quite nice as well! If you want to escape to a tranquil, beautiful, and truly special place - I cannot recommend this jewel enough!!!!

Having our own kitchen and essentially our own pool were the highlights. Although don't discount the breakfast, which every morning was something to wake up and look forward to. Whether it was Annette or Jorge taking care of us, it was always excellent, and of course having a afternoon cocktail with Dr Philgood was a great way to relax poolside. Special note to Lucy and the Tortoises for some great wildlife viewing while strolling the property with a glass of wine. We will definitely be returning, but not soon enough. Highly recommended for couples to enjoy a serene and safe environment with all of the comforts of home.

Located on Stock Island just east of Key West off US Route 1, next to the College of the Florida Keys campus. A visit is 1-2 hours. Plenty of parking. Easy walking trails that let you meander through the key's native diverse flora. Must be 200+ plant/tree identification markers. Very helpful woman at the entrance provided us with a map for the self-guided tour. This place is maintained by the volunteers of the Key West Botanical Garden Society. Has been here for 90 years. Admission is $15.pp, $10.pp for seniors. Open 10am-4pm daily. Recommended for the visitor that wants to enjoy an alternative to the crowded Key West Old Town & Duval St. Thank you. This place is located on Stock Island and was my first visit here since I didn't know it existed…read moreand I've been to Key West maybe 8 times. It is more a forest than a Botanical garden, and in the June heat and humidity, use insect spray for sure! I love Strangler Fig trees, and there were plenty of them. Plant signage was everywhere, there is a stand with plants for sale. I was lucky to be there when the Nursery employee was there and brought me back to the Nursery where there were so many more varieties of plants. They are all very reasonably priced. I bought a small Soursop tree for $10 and another vine type plant with a trellis for $10. I enjoyed the experience, but don't expect the typical Botanical Garden.

We went during the off-season, so we didn't have to wait long for our tour to start or stand in any real line to get in. By the time we were leaving, though, we noticed a small line starting to form. Personally, I wouldn't wait more than five minutes to get inside unless you're a die-hard Hemingway scholar. The tour itself is totally fine, you get to walk through his small, modest home (which thankfully has air conditioning) and check out some historical memorabilia from his life and writing career. It's neat, but straightforward. Honestly, it seems like most people visiting are just cat people, and fair enough, the grounds are littered with six-toed cats, and they are indisputably the real star attraction of the property. On a side note: after our visit, Ernest Hemingway actually appeared to me in a dream. He made a direct request, asking if I could bring him some Krispy Kreme doughnuts because he is utterly exhausted from people bringing him Dunkin' Donuts. I told Papa I'd do what I could, but if there's a long line at the drive-thru, he's out of luck, I'm strictly not waiting in lines on this vacation.

Kinda of hard to tell from this pic, but the planter in the middle of the walkway is shaped like a boat.
