The only other Tamale Fest I'd ever heard of was the city…read moreof Indio and I happened to find out about this one by accident when I was getting coffee one day. Placentia's tamale festival almost looks like a scene from a movie. If you park at the non existent train stop parking off of Crowther and walk across the bridge, you get the perfect view of the festival. The first year I went, there were tons of tamale stands and a few were offering samples of tamales and asking people to vote for them, that was in 2019. Post pandemic, I didn't see too many tamale stands this year and definitely no one handing out free samples. I ended up waiting in line for Tlaquepaque's tamales, out on the street, then a passerby said I could go inside the restaurant and it's much faster and you can get rice and beans as well. I ended up going inside the restaurant and the line indeed did move faster and I got a chicken and pork tamale to go. You could also order sides and other items as well to-go and you could see everything being made in front of you. I did visit the corner store for the strawberry tamales from Imperial Restaurant and Market and wish I knew they were selling tamales earlier. The strawberry tamales almost taste like cake and I love this particular sweet tamale and look for it at tamale festivals. Imperial Restaurant & Market's was so delicious and I wish I got more than 1! Outside there was a stage that had entertainment all night long from Native American dancers to Christmas Carolers to Mariachi Divas. There's round tables and chairs as well as high tables spread out on the street for people to sit and enjoy their tamales, but if you're not there early they usually go fast. There's also a big beer garden area and the streets are lined with food, craft and artisan vendors. There's more stores and restaurants on these streets as this is Old Town Placentia and most of those brick and mortar stores are open as well. It's a great time to visit Placentia and get a feel for what the city is like.

There were several tamale stands to choose from, but I recommend looking for signs that say "best voted" or checking out the stand with trophies displayed in front--you can't go wrong with those! Not a big fan of tamales? No problem! They also have birria, birria ramen, burritos, quesadillas, funnel cakes, and churros. It's like a mini fair, complete with a beer garden. Plus, several surrounding restaurants were open and selling tamales as well. The entire event is vibrant and festive. I highly recommend visiting this festival annually--it's definitely worth it!

The first year we saw acts such as Gary Clark Jr., Selah Sue (dope female artist), Thundercat and the Roots (My favorite hip hop group). This year we were fortunate enough to see SantiGold, Common, Grouch & Eligh (killed it), and Jhene Aiko (love her). I cant wait for next year to hopefully catch both days of the event (Jam Day and Reggae Day). A small charity festival held within the confines of the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools (most…read more$$$ school in the nation). Loved the cheap shopping here... 2 long rows of vendors from various organizations selling clothes, accessories, foods, shoes and the like for really cheap prices. I got a cute sweater and a unique dress for $1 total. Yah!!! Fancy gowns were $5! They're like the ones you get a Windsor. =) All items were donated to this event so that's why everything was so cheap. So, great job as a charity event! Lots of stuff sold! I liked the line of food trucks...helped to attract attention. There were some games for kids but not a whole lot. I also liked the line up of artists, even though I only got to hear one. =) All in all, a neat event for a good cause. =)

Well, not quite. I kind of didn't understand the concept when I got there. I mean, there were muscle cars and some of the older police cars that were there on display that brought you to the correct era. That made some sense. I didn't really see much hippies, big fro ladies on skates, people smoking out and wearing tie dye shirts. I did see some zombies and some vendors selling some goods that are not era related. There were food trucks, I counted 8 of them which included dogzilla and the lobsta truck. Being the first event, I will give it up to the bands. The ones they had were above decent. They had Britain's Finest, Queen Nation & Led Zepplica. The Karaoke area was fun and it kept giong for the duration that I was there. The beer garden was quite small , but the $5 price for a beer was spot on. Maybe I was expecting a lot more or maybe their website lead me to believe it was more of a real 70s event instead of a mish mosh of sorts. It was definitely good first event. As the organizers, I would've put more signs leading to the parking lot. Even signs for individual areas. Also it was kind of strange to have food trucks in two different places. I would go again if I got the tix for free just to see the bands and not expect anything else.

This was one of those performances that really grew on me. I enjoyed it the first time but I was a…read morebit confused with the concept. The second time around, I was swaying and singing along with everyone else. I really appreciated the Latin fusion of the Mexican and Brazilian cultural dances. Donald was donning a sombrero and was dancing to the beat and he maintained great rhythm and coordination. Mickey and Minnie also sported some traditional Latin clothing to include a flared skirt ( Minnie) and a sash tied around his waist (Mickey). Notice that the color of his pants matched the color of his necktie! I really think that the creative team at Disney consulted the right people to make the costumes appear to be more authentic. Mariachis played their trumpets and it quickly brought me back to my days hanging out at Olvera Street as a child. Their attire consisted of black clothing that was embellished with a shiny trim on their pants and shirts. As I perused the crowd, I noticed that a majority of the people in the audience were people who were not of Latin descent. The crowds' familiarity with the characters really helped to draw curious onlookers into the performance. Children are also selected from the audience to partake in the celebration and get down with their bad selves! I'm quite impressed with this program. If you have an opportunity to catch this performance, make sure that you stand closer to the Silly Symphony Swings because you'll have the perfect view of the show. If you stand closer to the Jumping Jellyfish ride, your view will be obstructed and you must realize that you will be further away from the main attractions! Leave it to Disney to create a festive Christmas program to immerse tourists and others who really don't know a lot about traditional Latin customs/cultures into a whole new world!

Food from a bunch of local restaurants that allowed us to create a list of new places to try: 1. Flomenas italian kitchen: The chef was a very nice lady and the food was excellent. 2. Villa Roma: Argentinian-Italian cuisine: must get the sangria and the paella is delicious also. 3. Chihuahua cerveza: they are a local brewery in newport beach, but their tapas were amazing. Street corn, and their tacos. I ate a second and maybe a third taco! Also memorable was Chambord liquor. They had a desert table that was all infused with their liquor and it was amazing. We really enjoyed ourselves despite it pouring down rain and nowhere to sit. I look forward to going again next year.

Parking wasn't an issue at the time but did get busier as dinner time approached. There were two tents at opposite sides of the outdoor mall. Although it was a small venue, it was very well organized. I expected a lot more people at this event. I was happy that there was enough room to walk around, talk with other foodies and stand around to watch the bands/singers play. Some of the food samples did run out, but we were able to sample pretty much most of the items (e.g. clam chowder, Peets, Nothing Bundt Cakes, tacos, chips and artichoke dip - just to name a few). Unlimited refills on booze!!! I had a margarita, tequila, wine, and beer. I was totally feelin' it by the end of the night. It was awesome!!!

Also, Nova Jade brings out some great beats that are uncommon in North America, such as Wamdue Project, that bring a whole new sound to events. I'd recommend her for any event in a heartbeat!
