We attended the annual Memorial weekend Civil War reenactment. Had a good time. The soldiers tents were staked. Full uniformed soldiers walked the streets. Then the two sides gathered into their regiments and the shooting began. We forget how this conflict was fought with small groups of men, many farmers and young boys in scant uniforms, tho nearly 300 men and women reenacted. The conflict lasted a good hour. Was very well planned out. The village's 20 buildings were staffed by volunteers. Some food was available for purchase. This is also the site for Burton's summer Chautauqua series--free!

They even have a wooden church in great shape that you can walk into that was actually used in the 1800s which was relocated here for preservation. There is an admission fee that goes directly to their non-profit cause. Their "gift shop" is the town's general store in which you'll find period-proper snacks and trinkets. Century Village has lots of events throughout the year. One of our favorites is the popular pancake breakfast in maple syrup season (around March each year) - one of their fundraisers. Another is their civil war era reenactment which includes soldier and civilian encampments. It's not all about the soldiers - who put on a series of excellent displays and battles - but other living historians who show you what it was like to live in pre-20th century America (weaving, washing laundry, cooking, etc.). Other events include historical machinery which features some of the first tractors and farm equipment used long ago. The site is located in the heart of Burton Township in Geauga County, on the southeast corner of the town square. This is where 87, 168, and 700 meet. Again, a gem in such a small township, Century Village is tops!

Coming from Los Angeles CA, I'm spoiled with Halloween Horror Nights at Universal, so that level of…read moreproduction quality is unmatched. With that said, what Fear Forest has going for it is atmosphere and good actors. The hayride is always fun, although I feel like last year was a bit better for some reason. My wife and I went again this year on Halloween night with a friend and we choose to do all 4 events. Even the hayride seemed a tiny bit lacking compared to last year (maybe because not many people want to work halloween night especially on a Friday night) the mazes were fun and the actors did a good job. The cornmaze was our favorite. The atmosphere, weather, sounds, and lights were perfect for a fun maze of scares. I passed a Scarecrow actor and liked his mask, I said aloud, "that's an awesome mask and I can't make to make my own", and he pulled me aside and stood in front of a light so I can take a photo with my phone for reference. Small, but very nice thing to do, and I sure appreciated that. Very cool guy. Thanks again, man. Will we go again next year? Hm. Absolutely. See you next year, Fear Forest! 9.4/10 P.s. Dress warm. My wife and friend were freezing, but i over did it and actually became too hot but I'd rather be hot and take off layers than freezing with no way to get warm LOL
