Fresh food and lively seasoning. Portions are slightly smaller than something you can expect in the U.S. but definitely one of the most recommended places by the locals and they did not steer us in the wrong direction.

After living in London for a couple years, I really appreciate a Nando's. It's cheap, cheerful and generally pretty reliable. But I've never even tried the chicken. You see, I'm a vegetarian, but I love Nando's because there are no fewer than three vegetarian main-meal options on the menu! And I also love the garlic peri peri sauce. But, mostly, I love Nando's because of the small print at the bottom of the menu. It says that every effort has been taken to prevent their chickens from contacting their vegetarian items, 'even by telephone'. Even by telephone!! After I read that, I knew that Nando's would always occupy a soft spot in my heart. Plus, their wine menu has apparently won loads of awards. A quick-service restaurant's wine menu has won awards. Classy. I have to say, though, that the frozen yogurt worries me. It tastes very ice-creamy and sometimes like banana. I like banana. I like frozen yogurt. I like ice cream. But I do not like frozen yogurt that's more like ice cream and tastes like banana. It is bad and wrong.

    Review Highlights - Nando's

I was always reluctant to eat in Nando`s cause I am not a big fan of spicy food and Nando` is famous for its hot chicken.

You used to have to be buzzed in through a security door to a windowless dining area with walls covered in murals of Portuguese gardens but now they have opened a brighter cafe style restaurant next door that seems to be used most of the time now. Having said that the food is incredible. They serve the best "Lisboa Style" grilled prawns I've ever had. Although I wouldnt normally go for chicken in a restaurant, the bbq'd chicken here is extraordinary. Their lamb chops equally good and matched by the simple accompanying chips and salads. Prices are cheap apart from teh prawns and service is always friendly, often with groups of the local Portuguese and Brazilian community dropping in for a quick coffee or sometimes just a chat.

Its an odd location, busy road, parking can be fun half of the frontage is a takeaway place with pretty reasonably priced meals, the other half a cafe. Thus we had 5 minutes of figuring how to get into the dining area which was apprently out the back of both places. To save the mystery of asking, you go in through the cafe to a most bizarre mural decorated room with an all round galleried landing, very odd and certainly different. the welcome was warm, the menu prices a little eye watering for the environment (check them out on there website), sadly no piri piri option on the eat in menu. We asked if we could have it and the lady in charge agreed and 1 plain chicken, 2 piri piri chickens, a large salad and enough fries for the five of us (i would like to point out, it was my wife and i, with our three children, eldest 14). Chickens came, looked very good, had some doubts over the piri piri, was VERY hot compared to what i remembered, and the residue just looked like it was grilled chicken with a hot sauce, no evidence of garlic or chilli, it was ok, but not quite the proper piri piri experience i was hoping for :( The spicy ones were to hot for the kids (both boys would normally have piri piri) and a conversation with the owner afterwards revealed the waittres may have ordered very hot rather than hot, bah. desserts were authentic and tasted very nice, coffee was disappointing, would have preferred bondi coffee but hey. But the real shock came with the bill, the gill menu i had read quoted a family hamper of 2 chickens, 2 chips, 2 rice and 2 salads for £27. We had one more chicken, no rice, one more chips and one large salad rather than two normal, so not a million miles away. plus we ate in and had two rounds of soft drinks plus desserts to help put the fire out. What would you expect per head for a family of five (children aged 8-14) in a strange windowless room behind a takeaway and a cafe? Not much change from £90 I thought that was a bit steep personally, the drinks were £2 a tin, desserts were huge and not finished, so smaller dessert cheapr price would be a better option, portion sizes were good, i just found a bit steep to sit down and eat something almost a third of the cost to take away (excluding drinks and desserts) especually when we used to buy some of the best pirir piri in Portugal for all five of us for less than twenty euros at the chicken shack in quarteira not the fanciest restaurant, but neither is this Would i return, i am not sure, friendly people, nice food in good quantities but expensive for what it really is.

First impression was that the interior is really beautiful. Great decoration and ambiance throughout. I loved that they have a skylight in the roof, which during lunchtime provides a nice bit of sunshine. I went for their main attraction, the piri piri chicken and really liked it. Spicy, tender chicken on the bone with a good flavor to the sauce. I chose the chips as my side, and they were similar to McDonald's, but tasted more frozen and less fresh. I would avoid the chips. They have other sides that I'll be sure to try instead the next time I go. The presentation of the chicken was the only knock against it, it came on a plain ceramic plate without any garnish, bed of lettuce, or anything else. I really feel they need either some garnish on the plate, or a less plain plate. At Nando's or something I wouldn't mention it, but at these prices and put against the decor, it looks out of place without it. For my beverage I went with a pint of the Portuguese beer on draft and found it to be awesome - a great tasting beer served cold in a large mug. It went really great with the chicken. Still a bit hungry I went for dessert and had the tart which came with ice cream, it was a really nice presentation and very, very good. The tart was just the right amount of sweetness, and very light and flaky. The ice cream was great too. Interestingly the highlight of the meal for me was actually the service. Magdalena was my waitress, and also seated me. She continued to check in and make sure I had everything I needed the whole time I was there. Really wonderful service with a smile, she's a gem. Overall I liked this place, but for the prices they are charging I feel they really need to step up their game on their food presentation, and also maybe swap in freshly made thick cut chips for their current tasteless skinny ones. I would have given it three stars if it wasn't for the excellent service, beer, taste of the chicken, and decor which I found to be pretty enjoyable.
